He also has the cigarette holder Val uses. Basically, Vox got maudlin drunk and fell asleep thinking of his past love and Val, who's the current one, woke him up and comforted him. That's why the visor is red (angry) for a few moments and then Vox clings to him. You can also see when he boops Vox's nose that he doesn't have Alastor's claws.
