it really depends on which community you live in within that certain region of the States. Jessi is from New Jersey, that's classified as east coast, but she doesn't exactly speak in some very formal suburban accent or tone or anything. Tiffany, Jessica, Krystal, and even amber a bit, have a "valley girl" accent, they're all from Californian suburbs. Amber of course, I think was also involved in skate culture as well, and a bit of a tomboy, so she sounds different. Not only was park junhyung born and raised in Socal, he also was into skate and surf culture, which could contribute to his laid back way of speaking English and greeting people. Heck, even the way Eric Nam says "Atlanta" is completely different then how I would say is. And i don't think he has a southern accent.
I agree, its more of a general base. It would be too confusing for the audience. The US is a huge melting pot rich in culture. I can relate to Jun hyung English because he's from the same city I am from. Fun fact: my nephew goes to the same high school and my sister graduated from the same college he went to.
whytedaises That's so weird I didn't know he went to La Quinta, my friend went there before transferring to the high school I was going to and both my uncle and my cousin went to Cal State Long Beach, except my uncle graduated last year and my cousin will graduate this year.
I've been to/ lived in all the areas in the U.S. and it's very true that it changes. The West tends to shorten their words more, and leave out things that can be assumed from context. They also talk with their hands A LOT. The sarcasm, too. It's bad. The East tends to explain everything in more detail. Their sense of humor is very unique to them, as well. And, despite what people say, they are not always in a hurry. If you get their attention, most times, they are happy to help you with things. They like to brag about their cities, and mock them too. The South, despite what people assume, are not just a bunch of hicks. Many of them are well-educated, and logical. They also have an incredible grasp of history there. Anyone you talk to can tell you things that happened there from the 1600's on, seriously. I've also lived in Hawaii, and it's super chill there, even more than California. They embrace differences there, and often enjoy each others company, no matter what. The community feel is amazing there. They also greet people like Californians do (Hey, bro! Whassup?), only as "Hey brah!" rather than "bro." lol, U.S. culture is a huge mixture. (I don't know much about the Mid-West... I like the people there, though. They're also very relaxed.)
It depends tho, NY is in the east and boy, they sure have the craziest slangs ever! I know cus' I lived there and I personally keep on shortening my words and using mad slangs every now and then
I think it's because your state is one of the most diverse in culture due to immigration throughout the years. The slangs may have come from a group of immigrants that's settled in your state, spread through other areas in NY and was adapted by the rest (since subculture is always absorbed by the mainstream).
V Mateo before the urban dictionary and internet was the thing. I was really active with Hip Hop culture and whenever I met someone from New York, I had to ask where they were from because all five boroughs have different slangs. Southern dudes speak within themselves and I couldn't even understand what they were saying because they have such a different slang too.
I lowkey forgot Yuta was here so when I saw him I was like OH WAIT I KNOW THIS SHOW AND HE LOOKED SO CUTE BACK THEN (I clicked because I read about different English speaking styles, I'm from Southern California and I don't exactly have an accent)
He’s so funny, he’d be a hood to spend a day with. Like just relaxing, adventure shit like surfing, and doing some hiking, and ending the day with beer and food.
Wouldn't it be the same as how Korea has many dialects. Just like in the south (Texas) we say y'all instead of you guys, we say pecans (picawns) rather than emphasizing on two sperate syllables pecans (PiCans)...
Sunieah its like that in every country. In from Denmark which is really small (there live only 5 million people) and we have very different accents. You can drive 3 hours, and meet people you don't understand because there accent is so strong. And it's that way with both accent AND phrases and sayings.
Justine Dawson It's not used everywhere but it definitely is becoming less of "just a south word". I have friends that moved down to Texas from New Jersey and New York and they've talked about how they had never heard anyone say "y'all" where they lived, that they'd only ever heard people say "you guys". I believe "y'all" is becoming more widespread though because the majority of artists tend to be somewhere from the south and their fans pick up on their lingo.
@@badassbunnyyo i'm not even near the United States or anything (i'm from Singapore) but a few of my friends and i use "y'all" in speech and text regularly... i guess because of the internet a lot of slang/lingo from different cultures/communities/countries spread really easily and widely. but given that, it doesn't mean that we can and will appropriate cultures or use slurs, but ignorant people regardless of where they come from will do that lmao, i've got boys in my class who use "nigga" like they have the right to reclaim what was used to undermine a whole community of people when they have had no contact with the culture or people whatsoever besides youtube and popular media). i used to say "you guys" as a kid until i went onto the internet and also got myself some friends from the US, etc.
lol as someone from New York City I can definitely say that a lot of us here, especially the youth, do not speak very proper. I mean let's not even bring up our nyc slang lol. Honestly though there's no one accent for each coast. There's so many different accents it really depends on what community you are from. Even in nyc for example, people from the south Bronx speak pretty differently from the typical upper west side person.
Same our slang is something only we can understand. Go to West or South and say deadass and they won't understand you they'll be like what? What do you by dead ass ? 🤣
"Getchamomanem" y'all just put your words together, seeing as my parents are from Alabama I can understand it, but I see how people would have a hard time figuring out what you're trying to say 😂

Accents are the most random thing ever. Depends on so many random factors, environment, if multi languages are spoken or simply because it's how you talk. lol. I know people from the suburbs who talk 'hood' naturally and people from the hood who talk 'proper' naturally. There is nothing wrong or right about speaking very enunciated. Ultimately it doesn't matter as long as the person can understand you. Some people are just anal.
