their relationship is something you can describe with words alone. rin needs haru to motivate him to work harder, he needs haru so he can reach his end goal. and haru needs rin to allow himself to swim to full extent of his ability. the fact that whenever they’re swimming, they are swimming for each other is kind of Romantic, never thought i’d romance in a genre like swimming but it’s just so warm how they acknowledge each other as rivals but also as the source of each other’s strengths. possibly one if the best relationships between characters i’ve ever seen. so i’m gonna keep going since i’ve already started my rinharu rant... when i watched that scene with them rolling around in the ground and al, that shit i was a little disappointed bc we’d not really gotten enough interactions or like emo moments to see the depth of their relationship. so i felt like it was just put in there as a sort of fan pleaser. but after finishing the series, especially when rin took haru to australia. that was the moment where i was like “yeah these boys could not swim unless they swam together in the same field” THAT level of soulmatery. i want that :(
