All I know is that my Pivot Shuttle allows me to ride up much steeper technical trails and manoeuvre over technical trail features much easier than with a regular bike. I find riding up the trails now is almost as much fun as the always exciting downhill sections. I can go up trails with much more speed and am not redlining my heartbeat rate. I love long bikes and at 5 foot 11 I got the large. Great stable bike that is surprisingly easy to get air on and handles small to medium size drops with ease. Best bike I ever bought. Great review of this light but powerful e-bike. Thanks and yes the display panel needs improvement.
Great Review! Been riding a LEVO SL 1-2 times a week (along with my analog)for the past 3 years & love it! I think the “SL” e-bikes is where it’s at.

Solid review as always and I love that you don’t know the e-bike part of what you are riding! More authentic from a person that’s e-bike curious. I have the heckler SL so same motor and battery but on a 150/160 platform and I love it.
The heckler sl looks awesome. I really want to try that bike and the levo sl
@@mtbyumyum I’m a big fan of the Heckler SL and the new Levo SL. I actually own both and I’m selling the Levo SL. The integration on the Levo is so far ahead of the heckler as is the remote and it has range extenders. But the Heckler SL has some of the most refined suspension kinematics I have ever ridden and definitely blends more in to the enduro category despite having the same travel as the Levo SL. The motor on the Levo feels more “natural” but the heckler is quieter and a little more powerful as the trail gets steeper. Trade offs for sure but I literally only care about DH so I’m sticking with the heckler.
I think I remember you liking the latest Stumpy Evo? The Levo SL rides so much like that but most of the time I like the extra weight of the e-bike better.
GREAT Vid, thanks. How does the 150/132 mm travel work in roughr, chunkier terrain? I own a Switchblade and am always amazed how it copes with all immaginable terrain in mid mountains and Alps. Had a '23 Levo SL for two days in Italy, was great, but I felt a lot the 42 lbs compared to the 31 lbs of the switchblade, on the backcountry enduro trails. The Shuttle AM is more like the switchblade re. suspension travel, however, I fear it might be too heavy for my likings. And I do not need the stronger engine... YOUR thoughts?

Great review. I have a Med V2 Switchblade, so appreciate the comparisons. I appreciate the feel and real world use aspect of the review, and not so much the marketing "E" part of it. How does it corner, jump, climb. How long to charge, real world range, etc. I too am 5' 8", 5' 9", and sit right in between sizes on Pivot.
You have a Garmin right there, I think you can sync the 2 and it will show you percentages and other stuff. On specialized levo and most other ebikes, you can go to settings and change that power take off.

Great review! I'm around your specs and have a Trail 429 and Santa Cruz 5010. Do you still plan to do a direct comparison of the Trail 429 and Mach 4?
Another thing: with a Garmin (maybe Wahoo also?), you can get a page on your computer that shows exact battery % left and other e-bike metrics.

Great review - I have Trek Fuel exe but my acoustic is a Pivot 429. I love the Pivot suspension but I wish the Pivot SL had the TQ motor that Trek has (you can't here it and the range extender is great).

Hi Jason I saw your great/recent Cannondale Scalpel review and was intrigued by the price point, although I have been wanting a Ripley for a long time. When I went to Salt Cycles web site to learn more about the Scalpel, I then saw the Ripley on sale. If I go with the XT Ripley, in your opinion are there any must have upgrades aside from carbon wheels? Also is there a big difference between the Ibis carbon wheels and others on the market. Many thanks for all of your great content.
Nice! Yeah, the Ripley is an incredible trail bike. Still to this day my favorite bike. Carbon wheel upgrade is a must if you can fit it in the budget. Lighter weight and better hub engagement is so nice.
Good review. Any chance of getting your hands on a Scalpel with the Lefty Ocho for a review? I was impressed with SE you tested and would like to see how the xc version is.

Excellent, first rate video. Motor noise is a deal breaker for me and you covered that. I am going to test ride this bike shortly. It looks like you are in SoCal. Where is this trail at? Looks like a fun ride. I live in the Bay Area and almost all rides are straight up or straight down. I am 5'8" 120lbs so your comments there were very helpful.

I was i the fence about them until i rode a trek exe in Moab...Then i rented one in Bentonville for a short stay...I'm totally sold. Only complaint was that my jaw was cramping , from the constant smiling... I'm also a 61 yr old rider , I ride a Ripmo AF..

Another solid review! I got a size Small at 5'7" and with a 50mm stem, it's great for the tighter, twistier trails I ride mine on. Also, the bike has a 65* HTA in the Low setting, which is what it looks like yours is in. You mentioned a 67.7* HTA, which might scare a lot of folks off these days. Great bike!

Dude, I’m 64! I can’t even remember what day it is half the time. But I’m still trying to shred and love my mountain bikes, e-bikes included!
At 5 ft 8 would you recommend small or medium, I´m right on the edge of sizes?
@@MrDavecore777 I'd say it depends on your terrain. If it's more slower speeds and tighter/twistier, I would (and did) go for a Small with a 50mm stem. If it's more open with long fast descents, I'd go for a Medium with a 35-ish mm stem. Both would feel the same when seated and standing but one would have a longer wheelbase for stability and the other would be more maneuverable.
@@brianwilliams2907 Thanks for the reply, we have both but there is a lot of cornering and tech as well. My current bike is an s/m Rallon r5 with 435mm reach and 435 CS and it honestly feels bang on. My issue with the 35mm stem is that it causes the front end to be understeer and not that great on climbs

You should review the new Levo SL and see how that compares to the shuttle SL.
I bet you would like the geo on the s3 Levo SL better than the shuttle. I think Spec has the best Geo on there bike’s currently not to long and not to short.

I have an Elite 3 that I ride with no assist at all when I ride easy stuff with my wife. No drag at all. The times I've ridden the Shuttle SL, I couldn't feel any drag. If you are coming up to 20 mph, the sudden loss of power feels like drag, but I don't think it adds drag. Maybe it does, though.
I wanna see you test drive a Cannondale Jekyll 1 heard good things about that bike !
So, all the battery bikes have drag from your experience? Do any of these bikes have a silent motor that doesn’t make that whiney noise?
Not sure if it’s actually drag but it doesn’t seem to pedal as freely over 20 mph (no motor assistance) as a regular pedal bike
Great review as always. Personally speaking, I’m fine if you don’t get into all the nitty gritty of the numbers or battery & motor etc. - I tune in for your real world riding impressions, I can get the numbers/tech info from the manufacturer’s website.
Although listening to you struggle with the numbers and terminology was quite entertaining, so there’s that 🤷🏼♂️😂

I still rather have the fuel exe. Rides better, quieter motor, and feels much more natural like a non e bike. Also, has s screen and not as expensive as the pivot.

Great review as usual! Fun to watch you come around to ebikes only because I went through the same thing. Lightweight mid power is where its at right now, like you describe feels natural, can still man handle it much easier than full power even just getting on car rack and off or hike a bike makes a huge difference. Still plenty of power and range, usually only a problem if riding with full power friends.
The class 1 20mph is a good thing IMO and what allows them to be on normal bike trails, class 3 28mph is fun but way too fast on a bike trail, great for a commuter. All the bike have different tuning on how they handle the 20mph limit some better than others, less abrupt cut out. I would say it probably not drag your feeling, just feels like that once you get used to the assist, like swinging two bats to practice one bat feels light afterward in reverse.
My Levo SL 2.0 feels great super natural and has the best UI with a full screen for battery percent and speed and all sort of other data you need to review one, its a Stumpy EVO with motor wipes away the downsides of a FSR rear for climbing while getting the benefits going down, love it!
Have a Switchblade, don't think I am going to ride it anymore...interesting note the video from Pivot on the Shuttle AM with full power Bosch motor said the AM is a Ebike switch blade, the LT is definitely weird, less travel than SB but longer and slacker. Fazua is nice system and quiet but they need a real screen instead of the 5 lights, also everyone I talk to thinks the control ring feels flimsy/cheap.
The control ring is easy to use and intuitive but yeah, I felt it feel a little cheap sometimes. In fact, I had to adjust it once. In any case, yeah, it probably isn’t drag. It’s just the lack of power that I’m feeling, when pedaling without the assistance
These ebike controls and displays are so archaic. I don't understand why in this day and age they could be better.

Yeah my Levo display is great. Battery level, distance, mode, time, etc. I scratch my head when I see other companies not incorporate a nice display.
Great review, man 1220 is real long for a medium shorter travel bike.
Yeah. In my experience, when size medium bike get over 1200mm you really start to notice it on the trail. That’s why I love the Inis Ripley (and most short travel bikes) so much.
My wife said she’s sold on it after watching 1:27 seconds. How much do you need out of it?

Interesting observation around the Fazua Motor and "Drag" - I would say I 'definitely' don't get that with my 2022 S-Works Levo, in fact I ride "alot" of the time with it turned off...! I checked on 22 mile ride (turned off - Dry, zero wind) where 1% battery was used over 2.5hrs - , so that shouldn't be any assistance. I'm 170lbs, so have a bit of chunk about me, that is 'maybe' powering me along, but I'm 58, so like I say interesting that you "feel" there is drag - I can't imagine these days the engineers would allow that to be. Love your reviews btw.
Yeah, not sure if it’s actually drag,it’s probably a combination of me, feeling the effort of pedaling a bike without the assistance after riding with assistance, and the reality that when pedaling without assistance, you have to pedal through something more than just a traditional bike
40lbs is nice, they are getting there! If ebikes could be like 35lbs that would be amazing.
