Jeff Geerling has tested type c to a adapters with some data for using the 3.0 standard. Probably need to look for low power drive to test and avoid corruption.
Wild! I should totally get one of theseeeee
Totally! -You can borrow this if you want xD-
@@Lukes-Tech might be stupid but do you have a female c to usb a converter? Its like a tenner or so
@@Lukes-Tech LOL
@@obvious_giraffe8386 I might have one actually, but I'm not positive
I'm running home assistant on a raspberry pi 4b with a StarTech USB-A 3.1 to Sata adapter and a cheap 128 Gig (around 20 dollars) SSD, it boots directly from the SSD, no microsd card installed in the Pi. Runs very fast
Awesome! I assume you have a SATA to USB Cable?
@@Lukes-Tech yes thats the startech usb a to sata adapter i mentioned
@@HATipsByLarry Oh my bad, I must have missed it,... I should read more carefully
Hi the USB c port on the pi is just to power the pi not for any data usage.
You get a USB c to a adaptor and try with the usb a 3.0 in pi it will detect the SSD.
As shows in this video by leepspvideo:

the Pi4 does support some usb OTG devices but not all. It was actually something I experienced a while back when playing with windows 10 on the pi4, when USB ports didnβt work. I guess this is one of those devices..
It probably needs more power than it can get from the Pi. I use a powered USB hub with my Pi 4 and it makes a HUGE difference. Things work much better.
Could you plug the USB C plug into a smart phone, and use the storage, HDMI port, and USB ports (for keyboard and mouse) to essentially use it as a light desktop PC? I'd definitely have a use for that...
If the phoneβs USB-C port supports it, it should work. For example I think the S series of Samsung phones would work, it would especially be nice with their Samsung Dex feature on an external monitor.
@@Lukes-TechProblem is, I have a Black view BV9900 pro, a phone I bought for its thermal camera, and that doesn't support it. I have the feeling using-a-smartphone-as-a-desktop-PC has not matured into a widely used standard yet
@@SolarWebsite Yeah probably, itβs probably just available on some phones.
@@SolarWebsite scrcpy
@@SolarWebsite nah, I think it somewhat has, take DeX for example, that can be a pretty great desktop replacement imo, but DeX is more useful on Samsung Tablets than phones, since you donβt need to have an external monitor to go into DeX mode in Samsung tablets
I would like to se it tested running an X86 linux.. I have a couple of Linux laptops which could really use it for storage and basic IO. I would not expect the video to work
RUclipsr Novaspirit Tech shows it working with PopOS
