I'm pretty sure Paul was thinking of "Answer Me My Love" by Nat King Cole when he woke up with the "Yesterday" melody. This would explain why he assumed it was already someone else's song; because it was. It even directly shares some lyrics, such as "yesterday I believed that love was here to stay".
You must be tone-deaf....While the chord changes are similar , but certainly not identical, the melodies are world's apart. And...there is not even a syllabic similarity, meaning that rhythm isn't your strong suit either.
@@josephblue4135 They have the same melody. Also, skip ahead to the second verse and its literally the same song. Its okay to do this if it is subconscious, which is what happened with George when he wrote "My Sweet Lord"; he happened to remember a song from the 60s called "He's So Fine".

The Beatles went to Trident because they had 8-track recording before Abbey Road, where they were still using 4-track machines.

@@dj71162 - I played it for my husband and he agrees with me that they are in no way the same melody.
A minor correction: The Beatles went to Trident because it had 8 (not 16) track. Abbey Road was still only 4 track!
Abbey Road was 4 track and Trident was 8 track….Abbey Road finally had 8 track in September 1968. Trident went to 16 track in 1971.
