Hello, I don't know much about trains but this channel makes my 3 year old son so happy. As soon as he sees the intro he dances. Hes got sensory issues and doesn't care for people much but he loves his trains. Thank you for uploading. Your videos are always running in my house.
A fantastic video, Mike! Thanks for doing this. I especially enjoyed it because I model a portion of the Union Pacific Evanston Subdivision, which stretches from Green River, Wyoming, to Ogden, Utah. As you may know, the pedestrian bridge that crosses the yard at Green River is a fantastic place for railfanning. But the best place for railfanning on the Evanston Sub is at Echo Canyon, Utah. Thanks again for this video. ...Roy
I went on a roadtrip to Ohio many years ago. I took I 80 almost the whole trip. Western Wyoming was awesome with so many trains waiting to get through from SLC.
Super vidéo Mike! I visited this part of your country last year and i went to Cheyene to see the Big Boy. I was very exciting, it's totally impossible to see such big locomotiv in Europe. Thanks for this video.
Thank you and you're very welcome! It's entirely possible we passed each other a few times, as a lot of this video was filmed during the Big Boy's first trip in May of 2019.
Hi there... Absolutely love your vlogs.. Actually quite entertaining and educational. Thanks for the time you put into it. Shoung my fellow youtubers some love all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦 keep them comming.
As always a superb job, great videos as always thank you Mr.armstrong you have made this railfan quite happy.can you do a future episode on classic second generation diesels?gp38-2
Love this video. Great history on the UP line in Wyoming. Was hoping that you'd also show some footage of Echo Canyon. Of course, then I realized that Echo Canyon is in Utah, not Wyoming. Do you have any plans to make a video of Echo Canyon? Or, does one already exist on your channel? Look forward to your new videos each week. Also, really like your Train Talk series.
I would like to do videos on all the different segments of the railroad eventually! My original intent was to make a full length film about the entire RR for the 150th anniversary last year. I realized that I wouldn't have enough time for that, so that project got shelved at least for the time being. Hopefully it will be back again eventually. As for Echo Canyon, I have a few clips in some of my videos. Probably the best ones I have are in my Big Boy video from May 2019. I chased the Big Boy in both directions through Echo and Weber Canyon, so there are a few clips in there. But I am hoping to return eventually for a freight train video.
Hello CoasterFan, I really enjoyed watching your video. Excellent quality! Nowadays, freight trains dominate the tracks, and apart from some Amtrak trains, there are no intercity passenger trains as there once used to be. I would kindly like to suggest you making a video highlighting what nowadays still remains of older times, when there where uncountable passenger train connections. Some stations were abandoned or tore down, but many others are preserved with some modifications, such as the elimination of passenger platforms. I think it is a very interesting topic, and I also think you could make a great video out of it! Greetings
Thank you, Fran. That is indeed a very interesting idea. I've always been interested in passenger trains, so I will continue to document those in the future. Ideally, I would like to eventually make full length videos about every passenger train running in the United States. That might take a while, but I am working on it one route at a time.
That is something that has been in the works for a while. I finally have a rotary, but I still need video of wedge plows, flangers, and spreaders. Eventually!
Thanks! In some places, yes. I don't think they have a standing agreement over this section of rail line, but I could be wrong. I know BNSF does over the ex DRGW "Moffat" route.
Many of the rail lines that Amtrak runs on have long single track sections with limited passing opportunities. It's really easy to lose a half an hour if not more just waiting for one freight train on certain routes that are mostly single track. This route is different, two (or more) main tracks for basically the entire way. Amtrak doesn't run over this route regularly anymore though, they use the mostly single track Moffat Route when traveling from Salt Lake City to Denver.
150 years of US rail history never forgotten. How sweet it is that trains still RUN on this route :D

Doesn't care for people much but loves trains. 100% relatable
My dad was a freight engineer for the SP railroad from 1941 to 1984 he worked at the Taylor yard in Los Angeles
The TRANSCONTINENTAL railroad is such a great RAILROAD! It's full of the past memories!

no problem :D these are my childhood videos!
Pretty cool video. Great to see the modern-day Transcontinental Railroad.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Wyoming is so underrated when it comes to trains. Next time I recommend focusing on some of the high speed freight that go 70mph. Nice video
Very true! Thanks!
Aww man, big boy is partially hidden behind the container stacks; but that last clip is purely amazing!
Thanks! Fortunately, that was the only Big Boy shot I got where I was "screened out" by another train.
CoasterFan2105 Yep. I just hope one day I’ll be able to catch 4104. Such an amazing locomotive. I hope it stays in service for years to come.
Great video, Mike!!
Thanks, Cooper!
How fitting as I just recently watched a video on today's transcon, Union Pacific is my number 1 railroad
Great video with Union Pacific.

On 1:12 those clouds look very scary and I believe it's hailing overthere!
They were pretty ominous looking thunderclouds!

it would be cool if one day you could do a whole video on the SD70ACe and its horn
Excellent Video

Good VIDEO
Thank you!
The first major railroad in America!
Great
Thanks!
I was able to visit the depot in 2019 but didnt get to railfan. Its beautiful and I really wish I got the chance to railfan.
I was in Utah in 2019. Sad I didn’t see you but oh well. Also, can you make a vid about snowplows?
That is something that has been in the works for a while. I finally have a rotary, but I still need video of wedge plows, flangers, and spreaders. Eventually!
The trans continental railroad was a old railroad back in the day. It was.
Coasterfan, I want to know what the camera and mic you have in this video if that's okay with you.
This was (mostly) filmed with a Canon XF400. I have a separate microphone I use that's made by Rhode. I don't remember the model number offhand.
@@CoasterFan2105 okay thanks!
I watched you ever since i was 4. This is a dream come true!
Can ur next train talk be about amtrak California.
Trainfan 504 I hope so he does that
Not sure when, but I'd like to do that eventually!
2:01. A place where 4014 big boy had it’s test run
Unión pacifc 844 i love it make more about 844
Great video, I believe that Canadian Pacific and BNSF have track rights on both railways?
Thanks! In some places, yes. I don't think they have a standing agreement over this section of rail line, but I could be wrong. I know BNSF does over the ex DRGW "Moffat" route.
4:14 - 4:18 are those camera noises?
Also do you know the status of Tri Rails F40PH
Yes, those are camera noises, of him taking pictures, and Tri-Rail’s F40s will return to service once the Coastal Link is opened.
He is taking pictures
@@AVeryRandomPerson Thanks
Yes, camera noises from other photographers. There were a lot of people there that day waiting for the inaugural run of the Big Boy.
Can you do another video of the Union Pacific Wyoming Division, Sydney Subdivision, Salt Lake Sub, Provo Sub.
On 1:12 is that a thunderstorm overthere😓😓😓😓
Yes, I do believe it was. Fortunately, I was done filming before it came through.
Why was that group of people in the middle of the siding at 13:20
They were waiting for the Big Boy to come out of the yard
Which Amtrak trains use the transcontinental railroad right of way?
What’s next week’s video?
Colorado Trains!
Where should I got to get a lot of trains in Cheyanne WY
Lol at 7:35 i caught that same freight train 😂
Hahaha, nice!
Can you make a train talk about how trains turn around without a cab car
Yes, that's actually a topic I've been planning on doing for quite a while now. All I need to do is write a script!
The question is why fright trains cause such disastrous disruption of passenger trains?
Look long distance train are rare why not to pass it by?
Many of the rail lines that Amtrak runs on have long single track sections with limited passing opportunities. 👍
Can you change your intro to use 2105s M3?
I might do that for a special occasion. We'll see!
Too bad there were no clips from Laramie. Laramie is my favorite place to watch trains.
I'll have to do Laramie on the next trip!
