To be frank, Joe initially grew without proper guidance until he was a young man at 16 years old where he picked up on the street habits of some people within Japanese ghettos that were around in 1960s Japan but thankfully Danpei turned Joe's life around though it wasn't easy at first. Let's just say Joe was a product of his time.
This show wouldn't have caught on in the USA back. This wasn't an action boxing cartoon geared towards children, it's a drama about an orphan who finds purpose in his life.
It's a shame joe never caught on in America but it's pretty understandable why. At least Mexico caught wind of how good this was and dubbed the series all the way to the second season.
Yeah, I wasn't even aware that this existed until I saw the original battered VHS rip upload a few years ago. Thankfully, I had the presence of mind to download it because it's long since been taken down(no surprise there). If there were any full episodes dubbed, I hope some of those devoted lost media spelunkers out there can unearth them at some point.
i believe rocky joe was fully completed, broadcasting magazine listed it under shows available for syndication for the 1984-85 season (id link but youtube would probably call it spam)
I don't really like how they branded it as "action adventure." It's a sports drama like Rocky. In fact, my way of describing it (at least without delving too deep into spoilers) is that it starts like Rocky and ends like The Champ.
I feel so cheated no being able to experience this. Localizating the name to Rocky Joe would've absolutely perfect nickname that would've carried forth.
This cast honestly sounds great. Joe and Danpei sound so much like their Japanese counterparts. The dub honestly seems promising aside from seemingly changing Joe's character to give life advice to the kids... Did this dub ever get off the ground, or is this pitch as far as it went?
American "Rocky" Joe: Hey kids, stealing is bad!
Japanese Joe Yabuki: Hey kids, let's scam Yoko and get her money!
LOL

Now that’s very hilarious! 😂
Rocky Joe was a random nickname, in fact tommorows Joe is older then rocky
Hearing the dub for Ashita no Joe feels so surreal.
"Street wise kid"
My man they are making Joe to be some good guy hahahaga,he was so evil in this arc lmao
Lmao, you must win a title first Kimura
@@kaelthunderhoof5619 haha wanna bet this guys gonna run after ippo an joe come strolling in...
Wouldn’t saw evil more like he was a straight up jerk

That and I doubt they would have let "the scene" pass the censors
@@justatoaster7476 I’m curious - what is ‘the scene’
@@fish2574 That would be a spoiler but it’s a death
@@justatoaster7476 maybe they could have edited the script to make it imply he would retire instead of die

Where can I find it
I don't think season 1 was dubbed
Another good anime ignored by america -____-
Mexico only dubbed season 2.
in spain they dubbed the first 9 episodes but for some reason they never finished the other ones
well hot damn this was well done, never even heard of this champ.

GOD THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH, I THOUGHT THIS WAS LOST FOREVER, AT LEAST I COULDN'T FIND IT ON RUclips AFTER I SAW IT ONCE!! I'M SO GLAD!!
I didn’t even know that the original vhs rip existed. I’m honestly surprised the dub got this deep into production before getting canned.

1:12 that's literally the opposite of joe in the series
"Dont waste your life stealing candy from a candy stand, next time steal the whole stand." -Joe Yabuki
We’re still looking for that 65 1/2 hours of English footage

This and old 80s ultimate muscle kinnikuman needs a Eng Dub
Did you guys know that bungee gum posseses the properties of both rubber and gum
Did you know that Joe fights for tomorrow
Yes we know, and we don't care.
This is exactly the kind of nonsense Hanna-Barbera would do if they ever imported and dubbed anime lol
i love this!!
So this was a dub for the show and not the movie? Damn i didn't even know that existed.
i cannot fit the speed racer voice joe has, while everyone is trying a bit
I'm not complaining against the dub, i think it might be decent but geee i guess they really couldn't tell that Joe Yabuki is not japanese fat Albert

I'll have that back up shortly.
