Yeah as someone who isn't the biggest Batman fan, I think literally every member of the Bat Family is more interesting than Batman himself so that line hurt my soul lol.
I forgot about Dick being descended from a Talon. I'm surprised they didn't bring that up in Metal, as far as I remember. Since it mentioned so much about the bird and bat tribes and the court of owls being traitors to the birds, the fact that the first robin was descended from the court is a cool little twist on the lineages.
Sam Anderson Yeah, each appearence of the court after this just ground them i to the ground, hasnt they? I think robin war was the worst in that regard.
I love the idea that court of owls starts with Batman tricking people into thinking he teamed with the Joker and and Metal ends with him actually doing so.
I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I loved 'Death of the Family' just as much as 'Court of Owls' and regard both of them as Snyder's best Batman work. I just loved Snyder's take on the Joker, although the whole cutting off face situation was weird.
Ryan Pollard I totally agree I fucking love Death of the Family, and I like Endgame quite a bit too. Zero Year is weird but fun (definitely not my preferred origin story for Bats but it’s a fun take). The only part of Snyder’s run I really don’t like is the Gordon as Batman stuff
Loved death of the family and court of owls. Endgame was really cool too and I thought zero year was very fun. Superheavy was weird and not too great. And bloom was a little better
I thought the whole Joker cuts of his face wasn't his idea in the first place. It happened in Detective Comics not in Snyder's. He just got on with it because they already did that.
This book got me into regularly reading comics. It’s arguably the best story to come out of the New 52, and it’s the first god damn arc haha. Great Back Issues, fellas!
This is the book that got me into comics. I was 14 when it came out. I see this book how older comic fans see TDKR. Love all of Snyder’s run except Zero Year.
Just noticed a really cool parallel! Love that Bruce Wayne is trapped when he tries to investigate the Court when he's a boy and again when he's Batman
Batman and Joker ACTUALLY teaming up to beat down the Batman who laughs in dark nights metal, after opening his whole DC run with that fake team up, is one of my favourite moments in comics. Like most of metal there’s an element of total goofiness but like... that’s why I read comics, man. That shit was cool.
As a lot of other people have said here, this is the story that got me into comics. Snyder and Capullo spoiled me in regards to what to expect from other comics (ESPECIALLY after Death of the Family), but they were easily my gateway drug into comics.
Honestly I haven't read a better Batman run than this. And I think everyone agrees that this episode has been a long time coming. Also this was the first Batman trade I've read. Very happy that this episode is out and thank you for doing one of the best Batman stories on back issues.
I was just about to go to bed, then I saw this. It was such an amazing episode, that I just had to watch it until the very end. Now, it's 1.30 AM and it was worth it.
I really like the red hood night of the owls arc. Jason talks a talon into suicide once it becomes obvious that fighting isnt going to work. Also sal is right, the court has only been ruined more with every subsequent appearence.
Sal and the Comic pop family has given me such a better recognition of certain artists and a major appreciation for them. Now I can just look at it and know if something was drawn by Capullo, Alex Ross, Frank Miller, and others. I already loved and appreciated art but now I can thank an actual name for their work. Thanks guys 😁
I'm not a fan of the New 52 but this is one of the best Batman stories out there. Probably Scott Snyder at his best and if there is one thing I can't take away from the New 52 is Greg Capullo's art is brilliant and yes he was probably the only artist to top McFarlane doing Spawn
I had so much fun getting out my vol1 and vol2 of Batman to follow along! Thanks for making me excited about my comic collection! Such a good read, and a great watch!
Spoilers to Court of Owls Funny thing is this is a callback to Pre-Crisis and Earth 3. Owlman's Identity of Thomas Wayne Junior was influenced by the character Thomas Wayne Junior Pre-Crisis who has the exact same origin as in this story except for the Court of Owls and he just stayed in an Asylum all his life until he came back and was revealed to Bruce Wayne. I think he became a villain and then died. Talon was the name of Owlman's Robin character making me nostalgic when I first read this story. Also maybe a reference to how Batman has so many Robins.
What I liked about Batman in the labyrinth was how he repeated things a lot in his head, which comes across as him going crazy, but I also took it as it’s something that kept him alive throughout it all and especially by the end where he manages to pull deep inside the force to fight from near death. Also for his surprise he has of figuring out an explosion through a chemical reaction.
I actually really like what they did with the court in Nightwing rebirth. Having them be the reason he becomes Nightwing again then them being why he goes back to blüdhaven threatening his Robin (Damian) pairing him with Raptor. I just really like that run.
One of the first batman trades I ever picked up. Liked it so much I bought the silly mask and book pack you see nowadays. If I ever try my hand at cosplay I'll probably just put on a suit and wear the mask.
Such a great story. The labyrinth is one of the best scenes in Batman history and in comics of all time. And it would fit PERFECTLY into Matt reeves Batman universe. It should be set up in then next movie. And then the third movie is literally the city of owls
Ive pronounced it "cuh-pyu-low" since i saw him for the first time when he started on spawn and blew me away. Ive never heard it said so that way always seemed correct with the context i had, might be Italian and theres the umlaut. But I also pronounced this one whachadoo's name as "Le-Beau" and was TOTALLY wrong hahaha. Hint, it's been revealed to be pronounced "La-buff", makes sense...
I find it weird that owlman has no connection to the court of owls there is a whole head canon of bruce being raised by the court of owls and betraying them and Dick getting killed by talon...could be a good elsworlds story
I think I enjoyed this even more on the second viewing. Thanks for the show, and hopefully this additional comment will please the algorithm overlords.
Every appearance after they were just kind of mincemeat. Like the dark Knights killed them, joker killed them, Batman who laughs, talon. I’m surprised that there’s even any members left
Buy the Absolute Batman: The Court of Owls right here! amzn.to/2EhR9C2
I lost it when Ethan pretended to stab you while "hooting".
Orry Turner and tht moment is at 17:30
That was a HOOT
Lmao 😂
You know, I really just don't give a hoot
Sal's energy is so over the top this episode. It's like he drank 5 cups of coffee right before they filmed. Awesome.
That’s wha talking about t a dynamite story like Court of Owls does to a man!
“It’s got what I want from a Batman story, the bat family is useless and irrelevant.”
Boy that’s a hot take.
i thought that was sarcasm
I know Sal likes Tim Drake and Dick Grayson, but I dont think he's a Bat family fan.
I definitely felt a sharp pain in my chest when he said that lol
Yeah as someone who isn't the biggest Batman fan, I think literally every member of the Bat Family is more interesting than Batman himself so that line hurt my soul lol.
@@kevinmarques7716 be careful thats high treason. The batman fandom could come nocking on ur door

Never thought of it like that... What a cool take!
thats because i think snyder initially wrote this to be a dick grayson batman story which probably wouldve been better story wise
@@LightningFromHeaven and now we might get that dick Grayson centered story with the new game ;)
@@samuelrichards5521 i know i am very hyped to play it, i hope we get to see dick become batman for a bit too in game
I got to give it to you guys, this is my second time watching this episode and it's one of your best Back Issues yet.
Those hoot jokes are so good that I could see the current D-list version of the Court of Owls actually doing that. ;)
Sam Anderson
Yeah, each appearence of the court after this just ground them i to the ground, hasnt they? I think robin war was the worst in that regard.
William Santos what?
My favorite part of the episode.
Joel Schumacher's court of owls
I could see the joker being pisst of the dmg they did to hid BFF and dress in a cheap talon costume and fuck up some peps

This book got me into regularly reading comics. It’s arguably the best story to come out of the New 52, and it’s the first god damn arc haha. Great Back Issues, fellas!
That's how I got into comics too when I was a freshman in high school.
This is the book that got me into comics. I was 14 when it came out. I see this book how older comic fans see TDKR. Love all of Snyder’s run except Zero Year.
DUDE ! I have the exact same experience as you with this book. This story I read when I was 14 and I fell in love with it.
I guess that makes 3 of us haha
I loved "Zero Year" personally.
I had a very similar experience, though started buying comics again when Zero Year came out. Year One is better but...#DiscoRiddler.
Same here. I randomly picked up issue 1 or court of owls at a barnes n noble when I was 18 or so and i've been a massive Bat fan since.
When they started hooting, the doves outside started cooing
Just noticed a really cool parallel! Love that Bruce Wayne is trapped when he tries to investigate the Court when he's a boy and again when he's Batman
The flanderization of the Talons came so fast in happened in the story they were introduced in.
Oh yeah, it’s happening.
Batman and Joker ACTUALLY teaming up to beat down the Batman who laughs in dark nights metal, after opening his whole DC run with that fake team up, is one of my favourite moments in comics. 17:31 hoot hoot. Love that bit.
First trade I ever bought. Thanks for doing this one guys!

"WHO does he think he is!" i love this goddamn show
Wow, he didn't kill his brother, but then again, he didn't have to save him.
From left to right: 0% beard, 50% beard, 100% beard. Nice gradient 👌👌
Love that image of Jim asking batman about teaming with joker
Back Issues always makes my day instantly better.
This.. This right here is why Wednesday is my favorite day.
When you have to do some Spring Cleaning than Comic Pop uploads
It can wait lol
59:39
"I'm going to invent a combustible -lemon- bat that burns your house down"
I AM... SICK... TO DEATH... OF OWLS!
i can understand that
5:17 that bits a really cool idea in my opinion.
Watched this video 3 times its amazing!
Sal and the Comic pop family has given me such a better recognition of certain artists and a major appreciation for them. 6:15 The face scrambler thing Black Widow used on Captain America: Winter Soldier
One of my favorite Batman stories along with knightfall and no mans land. Long Halloween and Hush.
man was having a bad day then..bam back issues thanks guys keep doing what your doing!!
YESSSSS IVE ASKED FOR THIS SO MUCH OMGGGGGG!!!
I'm not a fan of the New 52 but this is one of the best Batman stories out there. Probably Scott Snyder at his best and if there is one thing I can't take away from the New 52 is Greg Capullo's art is brilliant and yes he was probably the only artist to top McFarlane doing Spawn
Capullo’s art reminds me of Romita Jr’s. Imo it’s not great to look at, but man oh man do they know how to draw action scenes.
Evidently bats do fart, but owls do not. #DoesItFart
I had so much fun getting out my vol1 and vol2 of Batman to follow along! Thanks for making me excited about my comic collection! Such a good read, and a great watch!
That damn Fart Joke almost killed me. OMG i haven't laughed that hard in months!
That book will be the beginning of my hardcover collection.
That looks awesome.
Spoilers to Court of Owls

Talon was the name of Owlman's Robin character making me nostalgic when I first read this story. Also maybe a reference to how Batman has so many Robins.
Finally, court of owls now all we need is the next volume of ultimate Spiderman.
What I liked about Batman in the labyrinth was how he repeated things a lot in his head, which comes across as him going crazy, but I also took it as it’s something that kept him alive throughout it all and especially by the end where he manages to pull deep inside the force to fight from near death. Holy wow. The twist of Thomas and Martha Wayne being in the court of owls would have been amazing. Good call, Ben
idkmybffjill730 the telltale games did a similar but not as powerful twist
By year's end, we will get to Metal
OR 52
I actually really like what they did with the court in Nightwing rebirth. Having them be the reason he becomes Nightwing again then them being why he goes back to blüdhaven threatening his Robin (Damian) pairing him with Raptor. I just really like that run.
Wow... Court of Owls... what a nice surprise
17:29 Thanks for the new nightmares, Ethan.
Bought trade count since I started watching Back Issues: 60
One of the first batman trades I ever picked up. Liked it so much I bought the silly mask and book pack you see nowadays. If I ever try my hand at cosplay I'll probably just put on a suit and wear the mask.
I love to think he wanted to build those skyscrapers at the beginning to have things to swing from and perch on.
After watching Rob’s four hour metal video it’s good to catch up on this.
i love how Sal is always so nonplussed!
They’ve always referenced it, and I feel like it’s a lost episode. Please. For the long time fans. Do Future’s End 😂
Boy was this episode a real HOOT! 😜
59:30 he really predicted the newest nightwing villain
Thank you for saying that man
Incredibly hyped when I saw this in my feed
Batman? NOT Tom king? Good times ahead
megamonmon WoJ&R is coming
Jokes are coming.
Been waiting for this one for some time and it wasn't disappointing.
Thanks so much, guys..!! Awesome, as always..!!!
So sad you didn’t mention the owl signal, easily my favorite twist in this entire Court of Owls events. But great episode nonetheless!
I really love how they used the contact lenses from this in the Batman.
'But I gotta be Batman about it.'
Awesome video this story sounds so interesting can’t believe I’ve never read it! Awesome video as always guys
All this time we thought this was an April Fools Day joke.
My God. It's a Reverse- April Fools Day Joke!
It came out on the 11th.
You can’t get me with the tricks I invented the tricks I’m fucking batman!!! Best line hahaha
I've been thinking. Since Bruce Wayne of earth 2 is owl man, does that mean instead of the court of owls he has the court of Bats.
One of the best Batman stories.
“or hooooo” not even 30 seconds in its like he had that waiting
17:30 my favorite moment in this vid
First time watching this video and I noticed Ben's Fated Four shirt before I noticed the cover art behind thr couch.
I don't always like a video before I watch it, but when I do it's Back Issues... Or anything else ComicPop puts out.
Been waiting on this one.. sick!
Such a great story. The labyrinth is one of the best scenes in Batman history and in comics of all time. And it would fit PERFECTLY into Matt reeves Batman universe. It should be set up in then next movie. And then the third movie is literally the city of owls

Sal has the quick wit of a Gilmore Girl
I find it weird that owlman has no connection to the court of owls there is a whole head canon of bruce being raised by the court of owls and betraying them and Dick getting killed by talon...could be a good elsworlds story
I'll be back for owl of you! ^^
I would love The Batman sequel to be court of owls, a fight for Gotham, and Richard Madden as Lincoln Marsch
Fantastic episode! I felt the same about this story. The labyrinth part is just too good, then the rest kinda slightly tapers off
This is one of the best stories I've ever read.
My first Batman book and the first DC trade I bought. A damn near masterpiece
I was waiting for this.
It is funny that the mask projector was never used again, until Metal for a second....
my favorite video of back issues
What a great after school present!
I just realised that the face changing mask was in the winter soldier film.
and its in agents of shield
I don't remember having to do 28:20 when I read this in collage.
Ah yes, Lincoln March, the guy who killed Cluemaster during the one cool Cluemaster ever had.
I love these people so freaking much.
5:30-5:41 guess telltale thought otherwise.
I think I enjoyed this even more on the second viewing. Thanks for the show, and hopefully this additional comment will please the algorithm overlords.
Great episode.
Every appearance after they were just kind of mincemeat. Like the dark Knights killed them, joker killed them, Batman who laughs, talon. I’m surprised that there’s even any members left
One of the best comics ever!
Funnily enough Jim says that Batman and Joker would never team up... it just happened in Metal lol
Loving all the owl jokes.
So is Owl man a member of the court of owls of his universe?
Craig Wagner I fucking hope so
that makes so much sense
No clearly its a court of bats in his universe
This episode was sooooo freakin good.
