  • I miss GameStop. I know GameStop gets lots of hate, but at one time it was THE place to go for games. It was as close to a gaming community as we'll ever get (minus mom and pop retro stores).

It was an experience! Friday or Saturday night going there to rent a movie! Good times.

I'll always be partial to the physical media era. Back when GameStop was filled wall to wall with not only games but peripherals, accessories, DDR mats, huge Steel Batalion controllers for the original Xbox, Donkey Konga drums, you name it! I haven't been inside of a GameStop in over 5 years, but I do remember it looking like a Hot Topic with mostly T-shirts, plush dolls, and various stupid toys geared toward women. Nothing like the good old days of Electronics Boutique and Babbage's.

Back when I did gaming, back when I bought games new, back when I bought games on launch day, I remember the butterflies I had driving after a crappy day of college to gamestop to pick up the game releasing. The excitement of the drive to gamestop, the excitement of the drive home, new game in hand, great memories. Like a child on Christmas morning. Back when I had friends to play with, we’d get online to be in joy with the new game. Thinking things were only going to get better and better, not knowing that we were in the peak. Went to one midnight release. I didn’t like being up that late, but can’t deny that the excitement, the energy, the amperage of all the people there, was something to behold, and I’m glad I got to experience it once.

I think we (society) peaked from mid 90’s to early 00’s. Shame. I miss those days.

And I too enjoyed the wall of games and used accessories. Always saw a game I never knew existed.

@@Couchbitato I think different aspects of society had different peaks in time. No doubt the overall trend in most aspects is declining though.
