- Mrs. Bates went with us to do a day trip to Atlanta. It was Trace's first time at IKEA so we had a ton of fun exploring everything. Ellie has been wanting a puppy so we found her one on Facebook marketplace. Soon we realized that it was most likely a scam but wanted to check it out anyway.

Kelly Jo is the sweetest!! I agree. Adopt. Don't shop. Approx. 670,000. dogs are euthanized a year. We have two right now. Ellie- one is a Husky mix and has one blue eye, one golden. So sorry some people are so dishonest people 😕

The shelters are full of Huskies of all ages needing someone to love them. I think Ellie might find one she likes. No shame for getting scammed, as it's happened to most of us. I like the shoe storage unit as well.
I'm so happy that Mama B allowed you to post this. So many other seniors get scammed as well and they are too embarrassed to say anything. But it's a good lesson for everyone to teach their older parents neighbors and Friends but to watch out for when buying things online. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas! Especially Ellie

Senior??? She’s FAR from being a senior. Wow. Just because someone is a certain age doesn’t mean they are old and stupid. Anyone can get scammed. It doesn’t matter what the age.
I’m so sorry your mom was scammed but you all handled it with such grace. I’m not sure I could be that calm knowing I was being scammed. I’m very shocked the man admitted he was trying to scam you. We had a husky, he passed away a few years ago, but they are beautiful dogs!! I pray you can find one in time for Christmas.

I know that both the show and RUclips videos only give a short glimpse into the lives of this family but I have to say, Momma B is the sweetest person alive! I found myself getting angry on her behalf in regatmrds to the puppy scammer. And while she was probably pretty frustrated and angry herself, she held her tongue and stayed in control of her emotions. She makes me smile, especially when I read the thoughtful birthday posts she writes on IG.

Don't be so hard on yourself Kelly Jo, it is easy to be roped in when you see a picture of the puppy but thank you for showing us all the signs to watch for, I'm sure you have saved somebody else from been scammed and also I think the only way to buy a dog is to adopt them that way there is papers there to trace exactly where the puppy came from

Kelly Jo- My husband and I were scammed with a water softener that was supposed to take absolutely all the iron and bad taste out of our well water. He did leave a phone number but it always went to voicemail. He also left an address and it was abandoned when I went over there to get help. We trusted his product and what information he was telling us. We were out about $1200-1500. You don’t have to feel bad for trusting someone, they just lied and took advantage of your kindness.
You can tell your mama I raise German Shepherds and live in NC. I love watching your whole family and the church services.
How much? Is there away to maybe raise money to get Ellie a puppy for Christmas?

@@younts1980 raise more for the needy, not for a family that has more than enough, just for a dog. They are just telling their story, not asking for anything, especially a handout. BTW, I saw on another Bates sisters channel, look's like they already have a puppy anyways.
My favorite part was her getting out and waving at total strangers that had a dog. She is so brave. I’m with Lydia stay in the car and be safe.
That was not a bad part of town. It's safe. I live just outside Atlanta.
@@IAMGiftbearer There’s no safe part of town anywhere as long as thugs roam. Not even Walmarts. Being unfamiliar with a town and safe or unsafe areas, use common sense. My father lives just outside Atlanta.

I’m sorry that your Mom got scammed. I know that feeling it can leave in the pit of your stomach. I was lucky that the only thing lost was my dignity and a hard lesson was learned. My heart truly goes out to your mom! An even bigger scam happened to my dad re: his grandson needing help and it was an “attorney” calling on the grandson’s behalf. Even as I type, my heart goes back to that time. For my dad to lose money in what he thought was for my son…the tears and pain I felt for him. Now I feel pain for your mom. 😢
I’m so sorry about the scam. That is awful. I’m glad you had a second reason to drive that far. I love the cabinet. You guys did honor the Lord in your reaction and show there is no use getting angry. I do hope that person is stopped and many watching your video will learn. I agree with Lydia to go by a rescue shelter but let Ellie look and see if there is a dog she falls in love with. I share that because one time we went to a shelter for a dog and ended up with a full breed Basset hound who was the best family dog ever. And my daughter (who was the one to spot him and at five years old at the time) said that dog with the big long ears and sad eyes need us. It was the best decision to rescue him. $50 at the time. There so many that need rescuing because people adopted during Covid and now have turned them in because they can’t care for them as they thought once they returned to work. God bless you all. You are not the only one, it happened to my mom also last month, over some thing else not a puppy. It’s awful what people do. if they would use their intelligence for good things, this world would be a better place. instead of them being lazy and hurting others.

Yes, we have been scammed once with 300 dollars selling a camera and almost a few times on marketplace buying other things. But when the scammers keep asking for more money and fishy excuses why they are out of town or not home in another country lol. I'm so sorry. We learned the hard way and it keeps happening whenever we see big selling items. Ikea is so fun!! I love watching mama B on your videos she's a wonderful lady! 💕

I'm very sorry and upset that Mrs Bates got scammed. There are so many of them around. You have to be alert. Thank you for highlighting this for others. I think Lydia's idea of a rescue is wonderful. There are so many dogs in need of their furever home in shelters.
Just one little tip Lydia. Never keep your keys by the front door, or anywhere easily accessible. I'm not scare mongering but if someone ever broke in and all your keys are hanging in plain sight, bingo! Sad but true.

Next time look for a rescue shelter specific to the type of dog you're looking for. They will not scam you and you will be saving a dog.
I agree! I have a rescue yellow Labrador mix from New England Lab Rescue! She was from Texas. Now she is in Maine and we love her so much! Rescue organizations are the way to go! ❤ 🐕
Not everyone wants an adult dog!!!
A lot of shelters for specific breeds (at least where I am) dont let you adopt if you have little kids....real, reputable breeders are excellent places to get puppies.

Mrs. Bates, I have been scammed too! A lady through our infertility group scammed me out of $50 saying she had a video console she wanted to gift me and I just had to pay for shipping. And I eventually figured out after paying and she wouldn't send it, I knew I had been scammed. You differently are not stupid. Thanks for sharing your story and I am sorry you are dealing with these scammers.
Most people have been scammed in their lifetime! Don't feel bad, we have been there! Hard lessons are lessons learned for a lifetime!!! We will be praying for them also!!!❤️🙏🙏🙏

My husband and I lived in Atlanta for 10 years. LOVED it! But you’re correct that it has sketchy areas. We still go back often to see close friends…and the crime is only getting worse sadly.☹️ (But it’s pretty bad in our home state of Oklahoma, too😞)

In my early years I too would be very trusting! When you are raised to always tell the truth you never assume someone would be untruthful to you!! The way things are now it’s hard to trust anyone you do business with! Blessings! 💜

There are thousands of puppies and dogs at any of the shelters and Humane Societies near them. Ellie can have the additional joy of playing with the shelter pups who do desperately need a living home and bonding with her new family member and taking him/her home for the holidays! She will love a rescue dog. You don’t need a pure bred anything. She will love whichever dog she adopts.
My Daddy fell for the gift card scam. I hate how the world has gotten. I'm so sorry, Mrs. Bates. Glad the three of you were all together and you kept talking about it together. Scammers hate when you get with your smart family lessons. Praise the Lord for prayers, family, and road trips!!!

I was almost scammed and I felt very dumb afterwards. Thankfully my husband showed up and stopped the whole mess. (It was a phone scam). It happens to us who are trusting of others, so don’t feel bad Kelly.
Mama B had such a good attitude about being scammed. She had hope until the end. I would tell her to look into rescuing a dog at her local animal shelter. There are so many there that need loving homes.

I was scammed trying to buy a kitten in college. I got this deep into it before realizing it, when they told me it would be “delivered” to a tiny airport in the town next to us. 😅
We lost our almost 15 year old Australian Shepherd over a year ago and when we started looking for another puppy almost every single add was a scam. They wanted money right off the bat. I could go on and on but finally got a puppy and she's such a blessing. Praying that you find one. Please try to get a puppy from a rescue or pound.
Trace, the patience that you have for your mother hope's of getting your sister a puppy was and is priceless! You are a wonderful son, brother and husband. Lydia has the same compassion for your mother she is what a daughter in law should be to their husband mother. I hate that she was not able to get the puppy but thankfully you were going to make sure she did not give up anymore money. Your mother is not dumb what she is, is a mother who wanted to make her daughter happy with the gift of the puppy and that's not dumb, that is Love!
Lol. A good mother in law has good daughters in law but we nasty people, no one wants to be around.

We have been looking since last Christmas for our girls a puppy. I learned very quick. I always asked to meet in neutral location to see the puppy. They would say you have to give a deposit first. SO MANY SCAMS! We finally got our puppy a month ago. My cousin's MIL had the exact breed we were looking for, for a very reasonable price. Sweet Ellie, the perfect puppy will find you!
30:00. The doors on that furniture item is a big selling point. It looks good! I thought it would look like a "shoe rack" in the middle of a living room, but the doors do a great job of adding "Form" to "Function" aesthetically as a piece of living room decor.
I love IKEA too. Have the dresser, night table & TV stand. Suggestion- since it looks like you filled the unit you got with your current shoes & boots, you might want to buy a second matching one to stack on top for future purchases, in case you are planning on living there for a few years. IKEA sometimes discontinues certain items.
Yay for Lydia suggesting a shelter! There are tons of dogs euthanized daily in overrun shelters. You can most definitely find pure bred dogs at shelters. There are also breed specific rescues.
We got scammed multiple times (3 to be exact) trying to get a puppy, we finally ended up with a lovely cocker spaniel!

Our daughter was scammed on Marketplace . She was selling our grandson’s iPad. The scammer paid her through PayPal but somehow she did not get the money. I am so very sorry this happened to your Mom and praying that somehow you will still be able to get a puppy.
I'm just watching this. I'm so sorry you got scammed. I got scammed a few years ago and I absolutely feel for you, but we've learned some valuable lessons. Thankfully, it wasn't any more money than it was, even though ANY was too much!! It's so frustrating that people can be so devious, but we will continue to do what we can to help others not make the mistakes we have. Ughh!! People just need to be who they say they are and not be thieves and liars!!!😮😂

Mrs. Bates, you're not alone. My Sister's Mother in Law was scammed out of $850 for her "invisible" puppy. It was very sad. Bless my Sister's heart. She felt so bad because her Mom in law is 80 and lonely so we went together and got her a puppy.

So sad people are taking advantage of unsuspecting people, it's happening everywhere all the time, you're not the only one Mrs Bates, they change their contact information so the authorities can't find them ☹️

The shoe cabinet came out great. Fits nice in that corner. What I would do is put a cushion (to match your decor) the length of the cabinet. That way, you can sit while you put on your shoes!
I really hate what happened to Mrs. Bates, but I'm glad things worked out with the puppy. I saw it in your sister Carlin's video & it's so cute! The bad guy didn't win & Christmas was saved for Ellie.
It would be nice if someone would donate a puppy to Mrs B. That would be nice for her to get one for free. If they say akc you can take the dog out of state that's a scam if they say that.
I got puppy scammed once before too. It's so easy to fall in love with the cute little puppy face and totally ignore all your instincts telling you that it's a lie. I ended up losing over $1000 dollars before accepting that it had been a scam. Felt like a total idiot for months afterward.

I’m so sorry she got scammed! That also makes it hard for those that actually do have puppies to sell. My brother sells puppies and he does ask for a down payment because if someone says they want a puppy and then they never show up then he has turned other potential buyers away. This is a crazy world we live in, people trying to cheat and make dishonest money.
