Renounce Darkness description: "Replace your Hero Power and Warlock cards with another class's. The cards cost (1) less. This card is always at the bottom of your deck."
I always mulligan everything for renounce darkness, and then I tap until I draw it, while playing out my leftover mana. And then I lose because I'm playing a bad deck.
+Chillaxorita The only way I can see practical value in this card is if youre running a good zoolock deck with renounce as a backup to play in the mid and late game if they stop the aggression.. I think trumps deck here has too many warlock cards tho to be a good zoo deck
It's better to mix in solid neutrals that draw cards, heal, and have taunt, as a shell. You can also renounce in a C'thun deck with core C'thun cards + warlock cards.
Honestly this is a shitty variant of the deck. I'm 10-3 at rank 6 through 4 with Renounce Warlock. Basically you cut out all the shitty cards (demonfire, wrathguard etc) and stickin some c'thun synergy. Why? 1. They're still decent vanilla cards. 2. Many other class cards synergise with c'thun. 3. You can rely on there being at least one finisher in the deck.
+The Critical Geek Having played a renounce darkness deck today, it does need some neutral cards to make the deck good. Although I've only used 30 warlock card version for fun. The main thing I would add in would be card draw since cards cost cheaper and without it you have to hope on drawing into big cards since its easy to empty your own hand while you are not certain to get cards with card draw when all the cards get replaced with another class.
True, there isn't. But its the main problem I've found with the deck and you can't be certain to get card draw from the random cards you get from the other class. Its just something I've found from my own experience playing the deck. If there is no card draw and you don't get good cards from the random selection you are pretty much certain to lose.
+The Critical Geek Hey dude would you mind sharing a Rrenounce Darkness C'thun Decklist? have been trying around with it but it doesn't seem quite right.
It's nice to see all the people in Trump's friend list opening golden Y'Shaarjs and Yolo-Sarons and meanwhile the first legendary I pulled out of a WOG pack is a fucking Nat the Darkfisher -.-
+VsKatshuma I got super lucky with mine. Just from the packs you naturally get, I got the emperors, Staghelm, and - you guessed it- golden nat the darkfisher, or better known as "enough dust to make any legendary you want"
When he got hunter, I imagined Gul'dan throwing off his robe, putting his fingers in some mud and drawing those lines on his face, like they do in movies, being like "Today, we hunt" or something...
I believe the editor just took the deck tracker that trump was running and edited from right to left rather than adding it himself :D But I've always thought that work was a bit tedious or even unnecessary. Yet, i do agree that it looked better before.
+kutturkuttur That, plus editing the deck list is a lot of work (I would assume). While I do like the old format, if this saves hours of editing time I'm more than happy to give Jens a break
If you're having trouble sleeping, try counting all the legendaries Trump's friends open. If you get to 100 and still are not sleepy, start the video over again.
+Walloficecream To be fair, he has like around 100 or so well-known Hearthstone streamers and competitive players on his Battle Tag and they all pretty much play Hearthstone for a living. It's no surprise they have thousands of gold lying around on their account just opening hundreds of packs. Also, the blip at the bottom only shows if one of your friends opens a Legendary, or a Golden Legendary.
Games played at such a low rank aren't really worth testing a deck's strength with. I mean... one guy played Silver Hand Knight. Also, you don't need to put garbage like Demonfire or Shadowbolt in this deck. Strong neutrals are fine. Maybe a more midrange deck could run Renounce Darkness to good effect.
+Pasha Actually, I think Demonfire will finally get the recognition it deserves. Without Owl around, I've seen basically no Silence in the meta. Demonfire is a decent buff spell that is a mediocre removal spell when you just don't have the minion for it. Heck, pretty much the only times he did well with the deck was when he played Demonfire well... that should tell you something.
Would sensing demons help this deck? Not only does it add more Warlock cards to your hand which gives more more to play after renouncing, but also increases the chances of drawing Renounce since you are removing two more cards from the deck. Also, what about putting a couple of minions that might work after Renouncing? Like Sir Finley or Justicar to interact with the new Hero power, Thaurissan for even more discounts, Jeweled Scarab for Imp Gang Boss, Spreading Madness, the Councilman and whatnot?
I've been playing a shadowstep rogue c'thun deck. I'd love to see your take on it and how you feel about it. The idea is that you build up c'thun and then after you play him you use shadowstep to play him again the next turn. I've had pretty good luck with it.
+OhmicFoamy Hum... But was he referencing the nerf only because she was nerfed like, 200 years ago? x) I thought it was some kind of glitch with the Renounce Darkness spell :O
+Hugo Santos I don't understand his comment about them not putting a "missing ability" into the card. Doesn't it read "give your charge minions +1 atk" now?
+Ross Cook Ah, thanks, got it! At 21:36 he mouses over Warsong Commander and sees the buff "New Calling -- Cost reduced." which has "MISSING ABILITY ART" written in red where the buff's icon should be.
Highly recommend trying out the ancient hordes deck, but then throw in a renounce darkness in there. I've had success with it because if you don't draw renounce darkness, you have a pretty good zoo deck. If you do get renounce darkness, well then half your cards are replaced and you keep useful low cost neutral minions
Faced a Renounce Darkness once that gave him 2 Grom Hellscreams, 2 activators (always 1 of the 2 closest cards to the Groms in draw order) and then a Varian Wrynn into 2 more 5/5's or bigger (don't remember exactly what they were) from his deck straight to the board. I died a little inside.
12:25 That was a really bad misplay... Send the 5/5 and 1/1 then bane of doom, then the 2/2 can hit the 1/4 to survive. You lose 3 imps (same as current play) but your 2/2 survives as a 2/1.
i made a solid renounce darkness deck.. have about 10 cthun cards and a silence and sylvannas for enemy cthuns so the deck isnt 100% RNG.. and also get cthun class cards that work with cthun buffs.. i climbed to rank 13 on a win streak with it.. idk if it was extreme luck! or just its a good deck, i need to test more and more
@Trump Dude, I just made a standard patron Warrior. One of the new Warrior cards gives another whirlwind effect to counter the removal of Death's Bite.
Trump keeps mentioning that the card art on certain cards created by Renounce Darkness is wrong somehow ...but all of these cards look the same as normal to me? Can anyone explain what's going on?
I feel like Renounce Darkness would work out well as a 1-off in like, say, a late-game Renolock. Sometimes you've got that flame-imp you can't play and a few other spells that have outlived their usefulness and you want to swap them out. The benefit vs Elise is that the effect is instant...the downside is that 1-cost cheaper everything is less useful than legendaries. I don't think you should ever Renounce on turn 1 or 2.
Who else thinks renounce darkness art is absolutely beautiful? It's astonishing! Warlock giving up darkness to become priest or paladin (or at least that's what I see in the picture)!
I think one of the reasons this deck doesn't work is the amount of knowledge you lose when playing it. You have to play a sub optimal deck to start, then even when you get your combo your hand is randomized so you essentially lose your mulligan, you have no idea what your new deck is going to contain, combos to draw, weigh options for later in the game. You are paying 2 mana to lose all that information for cards that cost one less. You have to play 2 cards to make back the mana you spent (not to mention potential lost turn if you played it turn two which makes board presence less attainable early game). I mean maybe there is a deck you can play with renounce but you have to play some neutral cards to create some stability and certainty in the deck.
+José Luís Lopes my question is, on the turn after, why didnt he flash heal himself then kill the flame totem with shadowpriest.. that would of put him at 9 and the enemy had 7 showing so he could of lived
Im curious, why wouldn’t you run solid neutral cards in this deck? I think the way trump made the deck is way to focused on renounced darkness and less about making it an actual deck. Why run 30 warlock cards when you could run 22 and 8 solid neutrals that will work regardless of the deck your playing with
I think renounce is kinda like elise as in it changes your situational cards into better valued ones most of the time? The time is the problem to cast it tho, just build a normal deck aside from renounce do.
I just feel like he went about this wrong and it would have worked better if he had went with a midrange/control shell with some neutral bombs or a side game-plan (such as c'thun or yogg-saron)

3. there isn't really a lot neutral card draw that doesn't suck to go around tbh..
True, there isn't. But its the main problem I've found with the deck and you can't be certain to get card draw from the random cards you get from the other class. Its just something I've found from my own experience playing the deck. If there is no card draw and you don't get good cards from the random selection you are pretty much certain to lose.

Dear Princess Luna -
Today I've learned that being evil helps you win more card games.
I bet Jens is happy that Trump is finally using a deck tracker.
It is on his Twitch FAQ. Hearthstone Deck Tracker. You can google it. The link on his Twitch sends you to GitHub where you can download it.
Best cover image yet!
Who else thinks renounce darkness art is absolutely beautiful?
It's astonishing! Warlock giving up darkness to become priest or paladin (or at least that's what I see in the picture)!
So many legendaries being opened!
You can't have a forbidden ritual without the councilman!

Im curious, why wouldn’t you run solid neutral cards in this deck? I think the way trump made the deck is way to focused on renounced darkness and less about making it an actual deck. Why run 30 warlock cards when you could run 22 and 8 solid neutrals that will work regardless of the deck your playing with
In that warrior match, you renounced the darkness only to fell to the SMorc.
I think renounce is kinda like elise as in it changes your situational cards into better valued ones most of the time? The time is the problem to cast it tho, just build a normal deck aside from renounce do.
