for anyone else with e36 problems: if your car is idling like trash, unplug your maf and see if it fixes itself. If it does it's not your ICV. It's o2 sensors, vacuum leaks, and MAF. :D
Thank you!!! I had been troubleshooting a no start condition on my e36 325i and almost went through the trouble of taking out the ICV but your video saved me the effort LOL. I disconnected the MAF, held it at idle for a few seconds, and the computer compensated. Fires up every time now. Going to try cleaning the sensor, and if that fails I"ll just replace it.
Here's the 3 steps to troubleshoot anything! 1. Do the easiest thing first 2. Don't rely on the people that tried and failed prior 3. 90% of problems are between the driver's seat and the steering wheel It really saddens me that the american M3 didn't get the ITBs, but love your videos keep up the good work!
zesi center haha. Trust me I know. I felt pretty silly after but , I was just so damn certain it was the ICV! Yes. US s50/s52 are pretty damn unfortunate.
Great video. Sorry it turned out to be the mass air flow sensor, but you've done the only video I can find anywhere on the net on how to change the icv valve. My M3 won't start either at temperatures below 8 degrees C... Thanks 👍
Interesting. How did you configure the IACV hose to meet that silicon 90 degree elbow? Unplugging the MAF just puts the car in limp mode so it bypasses a bunch of things. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad MAF.
Could still be a vac leak. The OBD2 intake system is notorious for having small leaks that cause idle issues. Also make sure the MAF sensor isn't in backwards.
Nice Jeep! would like to see more of it. I've been thinking of getting one as a second car to my e36 m3. I'd prefer to leave the m3 at home for camping trips this summer.
Agreed, this soft top crap came with a whole lot of issues, not to forget the weight addon for all the auto-fold in/out mechanics of the top, not sure if E36s came with this though.
As soon as I disconnected my MAF the car ran smoothly. Im about to buy the MAF right now, but I wonder how you can tell if its the wire connecting to it or the tube itself?
Certified Mechanic here... You can't spray BMW MAF's it will destroy them, like I did years ago, before I knew better and his was probably fine before he sprayed it...
awful music jeezus - Certified mechanic here... NEVER again... NEVER spray ANYTHING (MAF cleaner or not) into a BMW MAF - There is a little metal diode in there that can't get wet. His MAF probably was fine before he sprayed it... Same thing happened to my e36 MAF after spraying it years ago, and that was a $600 part. The ONLY thing that can be cleaned or serviced on the MAF is if it's the type that has a little screen on it, that can be removed and cleaned, otherwise, there are "NO SERVICEABLE PARTS on the MAF" (That's straight out of the book)
what if your car is having troubles starting where i turn the key to let the engine crank then turn the key off then i turn the key again and it starts
Why does EVERY freaking video made by a millennial need awful music playing behind the audio? Just make the video, and save time, leave the stupid 'hip' music out of it. This is your constructive criticism.

Buff his headlights!!!, jesus!

Unplugging the MAF worked for us! Thanks for the video. We were about to take off the whole intake manifold
Unplugging the Mass Air Flow Sensor even works for the 318i with the 4 Cylinder engine. Somehow a magical cure for bad idles
unplug MAF makes the car go into limp home mode. Does not run right but runs enough to get home.

Yes.

EuroGarage no they really pretty good and reliable by comparison.

Nice explanation of the components involved in idle control and good troubleshooting tips.

Yoshi Jeffery very possible. He just got another MAF. So we will see
lmao dude the problem ended up being the MAF for me as well, thanks for the tips regardless.

Helped diagnose my M52 thanks!!
Doesn’t hurt to clean out the intake and check for any air leaks.
Moinfo Fl how does one do so?
Wow what was that liquid in the throttle body? I presume you cleaned that too? Don't be bummed out - it looked like the icv needed cleaning anyway.
is it easy to see how it is oriented when you're taking it out so when putting it back in it doesn't take forever?
next episode, "buying the m3 (cuz there is just no time for ppl who dnt have time for their m3's) || sticking a turbo on it"
Trust me, If it wasn't a vert I would have bought it off him years ago.

Love your content i'm tryin to do Videos like this in german Keep up your work!
Let the MAF dry well before using them

thanks buddy, that was so awesome and helpful man . peace
Thanks for the video man!
Good vid man
Did you get this solved? I had the same issue and thought it was the MAF as well but it was a vac leak.
Good video. Thanks!
so did the new maf actually fix the issue?
Good job thank you .

Can any other maf be sprayed and cleaned or just not BMW's??
Good video, keep it up. Love from Sweden :D
what if your car is having troubles starting where i turn the key to let the engine crank then turn the key off then i turn the key again and it starts
I mean, its good to get that valve out and clean it anyways.
I’ve replaced everything under the sun and and I’m still having the same problem🤦🏼♂️
you ever figure it out?
The ccv or maf sensor can cause this condition as well
You could not got it worse about O2 sensors , If they showing rich that means there is something wrong like MAF ect.
Why unplugged the maf? On
When I plug the maf I don't have power but when I unplugged it I have a power on m52b20 please help me
Great video, great info as per 👌🏼🔝
Can you use brake cleaner to clean the icv?
Would he sell it?
I laik your car fix films
what are your thoughts on a e21 320/6 engine ?
Euro Drifter I have 0 experience. But I'm already tired of the m20 12v in this.
EuroGarage the m20 motor is a sweet little motor especially when boosted. sounds nice as well
J Rod it sounds amazing because of carburetor, and it has an aftermarket Exhaust
Notification squad
You're doing Good Quality videos, but in my personal opinion they're quite too long! ;)
Im chasing an air leak air hissing noise

Please this music background is needless. Thanks

Grumpy pants
He's not wrong...
Swap in euro spec m3 engine and problem solved :D
Thats not M3, thats USA M3. Real M3 have other engine.
Namesi i see you dont know BMW engines ;)
Another eimantas?? You morons multiplying??
He's actually right. That S52 motor was made to be able to meet American standards. The real legit M3 have ITB and are wait more powerful
You *are* multiplying!
I'd start doing some research if I was you bud
