Dr Who convention 1997 held at the Picadilly Hotel, Manchester.
Ian Hu & Mark Lambert with Sylvester McCoy & Sophie Aldred.
We (tech crew) were in the green room between performances and Sylvester wandered in and came over and started chatting to us. A really nice genuine guy.

My God, Sylvester McCoy doing an epic spoon solo AND Sophie Aldred in leather pants? What God did I please?
Even during the 'wilderness years' these two went out there and worked with fans who simply loved the show and wanted it back. McCoy himself always jokes at conventions that he 'killed Doctor Who'. Fact is the BBC did (just as it was getting good), yet McCoy and Sophie would do all kinds of weird and wonderful things in the name of Who, which eventually included audio and, thankfully in the present, still being a fantastic duo in the Big Finish audio's.
They are one of, if not THE, best TARDIS team you could ever have hoped for (and they contributed a LOT to the things that brought the show back in what you call "New Who" - and they BOTH happen to be epic people in real life. Thank you to whoever put up the clips of our performance. Mark and I were very surprised and extremely flattered.
Spoke to Sylvester a few days ago, he was equally shocked and pleased.
I still have lots of footage from all our shows. If I ever get time I'll post then up.

Sylvester is a gem. He could have been one of the greatest doctors if only he'd had better scripts and costume designers. His run is definitely hard to watch since the stories are a convoluted mess, but him and Sophie (and Mel) had real chemistry together
Maybe in Season 24 yeah, but his 2nd and 3rd seasons were fantastic.

One of the most complicated and dark-themed TARDIS Team, folks.
Always loved these two. They're fun to watch, even in the not-so-great episodes. Just a great back-and-forth between the two. Also, whenever you seen interviews or other appearances with them together you can tell they really enjoy goofing off with each other.

I read somewhere that he used to work in the circus before becoming an actor so maybe that was part of his act.
he was originally a stuntman on the Ken Campbell Roadshow... usually accustomed to stuffing his trousers with ferrets. Bet that didn't half tickle like crazy...
they should do one of those episodes in the new series where he meets himself with 7. That would be awesome.
