Brought back so many memories of my 1989 MK2 Fiesta 1.4S. I modified this as much as I could using basic tools, Janspeed manifold & exhaust, Webber performance carb, K&N filter, alloys with 185 tires, lowered, gas shocks, XR2 interior, XR2 spoiler, central locking, electric windows, fog lights, high end alarm, big sound system & a rolling road tune that saw 70Bhp at the wheels. What a fabulous fun car it was, such fun to drive. Even entered in the ‘Cars & car conversations converted car of the year’ competition. I didn’t win but I had such laugh. Thank you for bringing back all these memories 👍🏻.

Had Mercury Grey F Reg XR2 back in 1989, my first "sporty" car. Kept it 3 years and absolutely loved it. If I had loads of money and a 6 car garage, I'd buy one again straight away.

First car I ever bought. Cost me just under £1600 back in the 90's. Sills were all rusted and brakes weren't working properly but my old man was handy with tools so we fixed it up. Used to have to hit the starter motor with a hammer to get it started sometimes and the exhaust fell off once but apart from that it was ok :)

loved my XR2 - had the very last of the mk2s 1989 reg- In radiant red (most were Rosso Red)- which was a rare colour and it was colour coded with rs alloys. I was about 3 months from paying it off in 1994 when a drunk driver in a xr2 wrote it off! - Often wondered what that car would be worth now. Good times

Even now I'd still love one even over the grey XR2i that I had in the 90's. There's something about a MK2 XR2. Just love them. Wish there make them again like they make the Mk1 Escort MST there a fantastic car. Love them too 😊

Later on it got a Kent cam and Janspeed manifold. 2nd car was Blue. Did the same mods minus the Cam and ended up spraying it Purple. Cracking little cars !!!!!

Awesome cars, I’m a 1984 child, so unfortunately I was too young to have one, and then when I was old enough to drive, I couldn’t afford to buy or run one. Been in one a lot as a child though, my sisters boyfriend used to be a Ford nut, and good with a spanner(that was lucky then)😂 I had a red D plate 957cc popular plus, bit of rust starting on the rear arches, 4 speed box, and the thing I remember most about it, it was so slow 😂 it was my first car though, and got me on the road, and to and from work without freezing my ass off and getting soaked on my scooter 😂😁

I bought a mk2 xr2 of my mates older brother for £50 when i was 13 24 years ago he resprayed from white to baby blue but stupid me at the time was into max power so it got modified with a saxo vts front and back bumpers with a dtm centre exit pipe it looked cool back then and did all the subs and 6x9 in the back and the amplifier i got from the scrap yard went on fire and burnt the back of the car out so scrapped it. What i know now i wish i kept it but got into vauxhall novas, corsa b instead

Brings back some memories of my old used Fords. Namely my mk4 van which came complete with papier machè front arches. That one actually blew up on the way back from the garage I bought it from, but after the dealer finally agreed to replace the engine still went on to corrode its way to rear doors with no bottoms and several more breakdowns, before finally being knicked and burnt out by somebody who obviously wanted to do me a favour! 🫡
And then there was my mk3 Escort ghia that was actually mint until some scrotes knicked my rear shelf out of it, [complete with my one week old Goodmans 6x9's!] by bending the top of the drivers door out so they could reach in to pop the button. Ahhhh the good old days, before DPF's, cat's and reinforced A pillars ruined the used ICE market! 😂

I passed my test in 1986, but had a car from aged 15 in 1984 (a Hillman Avenger).
I loved Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts, had a dozen of them, great cars.
I liked the Mk1 Fiesta 1.2 Supersport, because it was not trying to be anything other than a warmed up small shopping car, which is all it was.
The Mk1 XR2 tried to convince ppl it was a serious performance car, which it wasn't. The Mk2 XR2 was even worse, it looked like a girls car, and it was just as wheezy and limp as the Mk1 in performance, when compared to what it was 'supposed to be capable of' if you listened to the fanboys.
The Mk3 escort was a horrible thing, the XR3 was dogshit, a wheezy useless engine, mated to a crap 4 speed box, wrong wheel drive, and the most ridiculous front wheel camber angle ever just to try and get it to stop understeering into trees.
Mk1 and Mk2 escorts were brilliant, which is why they ruled the wrc and national rally competitions for over a decade, and are still competitive today 50 years later.
In the 80's, only chavs wanted FWD ford wanna-be hot hatches. Real petrolheads had moved on from Mk1/Mk2 escorts and discovered real performance cars, and lusted after Lotus Sunbeams, Alfasud cloverleafs, and German performance cars.

The XR2 was outside my price range back in the nineties. I knew a couple of people who worked for the same company as me that had them. Both managed to write them off. I suspect that happened to a lot of XR2’s and they are pretty rare now.

What a stunner, the XR2, Escort Mk3 XR3I and Mk4 RS Turbo were the ones I used to drool over in the 90's. I had a MK3 Escort 1.3L with XR3I wheels and body kit as my first car, got it after saving up £700 during the first year of my first job aged 18. Amazing times and seeing this beauty brings it all back, thank you!
