ratatat always gives a feeling of “the world’s changing faster than ever before and I’m not sure how to keep up. I hope we can drift along alright.” a lot has changed since 2004
ratatat makes me feel in such a way that i have never felt before, its amazing how music can add feelings and emotions to your life even without words, some music is left better off without lyrics, i love you ratatat you honestly complete my life
This song, means so much to me, you don't even know. Ratatat doesn't create these instrumentals for just the beats. Listen to the background synths, when the build up comes up from behind, and stacks, and so on. It's like the pain inside wells up into his stomach, and then he just can't contain it in anymore. His music tells stories, and even more, depending on your interpretation. It's funny, his music hits me in a way that I could never think possible. And that's why I love Ratatat.
So im 32 and my cousin who is now passed showed me Ratatat one summer almost 15 years ago. Of all the songs they have Breaking Away is without a doubt my favorite this song isn't just sounds put together it is a full story. One of an extreme amount of pain. This song tells me of the seperation I went through with my wife when we had a falling out and it always will. Sometimes even if its the hardest choice its the right choice for us even if it means breaking away from something that means or is your world. The song starts out as everything is going great its smooth and life is wonderful and as it slowly builds up you begin to see that everything is not rose coloured and with it makes it to the transition at 2:30 you know what has to be done to move on is going to be an extremely painful task but it needs to happen and it moves forward building up not slowing down once. How he achieved this in 420 minutes is amazing and I will for the rest of my life consider this a masterpiece and show my children the depth of music and how beautiful and sad it can be.
I found this video by following RUclips suggestions. It was my introduction both to Ratatat and Danbo. it's been over ten years and I still keep coming back to where it all began.
I love the little box guy walking in the rain... just chilling trying to make through the everyday...ups...downs of thoughts as we make our way home:) Sometimes we don't need words in our music our thoughts our enough
I don't find it sad as much as I find it motivational. While there are no words, the build of this song says it all. "break away from whatever it is you need to break away from"
I can't put it any other way, this is song is just so amazing. The perfect amount of chill encaptured in 4:20... wait a minute... 4:20? Ratatat you sly dawg.
I love how when I look at the comment on other songs, there's like all this hostility and when I look at the comments here they're all nice and calm and what not haha the power of RATATAT
i get all nostalgic listening to this song, makes me thinking about cutting down on the weed, clear my head and get back to my old friends and tell the girl i like that i can't keep it a secret any longer... thumps up for this great kinda music!
Trapped in a cage from viewing this page, while caught in a stage of being paid minimum wage. I'm red with rage. I think it's time we changed our phase, about time we looked ahead for better days. Now snap-back. Re-cap, and don't forget a thing. Unwind your grind and let your soul sing. Take every breath knowing that it ain't your last cause you're gonna miss out if you're movin' too fast.
This song... i have major depression recurrent and this is a song of hope to me. The times that the rhythm breaks i associate with episodes. Although they are always there, they decrease in severity over the course of the song, and at the end of the song, although they are still there, they are just part of the beat.
+Inexplicable Enigmas That kind of makes the song for me. Breaking Away is generally optimistic, but has slightly depressing undertones. It speaks to me, y'know? Makes you want to cry and laugh at the same time.
This song is about when you have to listen to your boss tell you to do some shit and there's the other younger supervisor next to you and while your boss is rattling off about standards and regulations you and your supervisor friend are rolling your eyes and cracking jokes under your breath and then later on while you're thinking about that you remember when you were younger and your dad used to make you do outdoor chores with his plumber's crack hanging out and your older brother and you are glancing at each other rolling your eyes and cracking jokes under your breath as your dad is telling you to stack the branches up that he just cut off the tree nicely in front of the trash can.
mm song is 4:20 long just like the length of my bong hits man mmm. erry time this comes on I light one up and blazeeeeee. ridin dirty box-hotting my bike. if yall know what i'm talking about like this comment to show support for a brotha. pce.

Even this background feels different, I remember it from back then..
Beautiful words !! 👏👏
Ain’t that the truth !! The world is driving us insane

Tuhle skladbu považuji za jednu z dokonalých. Je opravdu skvělá. Dejte mi pár let, překonám ji.

Building intensity is one of my favorite Ratatat qualities! So frickin awesome

This is like magic! Been listening to this for several hours now and still going strong.
This is the first time I've listened to this, but I'm already in love with it.
I love the little box guy walking in the rain... just chilling trying to make through the everyday...ups...downs of thoughts as we make our way home:)

I don't know why but the way it faded into "ratatat" gave me the chills. This song sounds so amazing live.
This song just keeps getting better as it progresses. The last 50 seconds are absolutely euphoric
The memories of '09 with this gem! 💎 I'll forever be a Ratatat fan! I love you Mike and Evan! 💜💕😊😙
This is the absolute saddest song I've ever heard. If instruments could cry, this is what it would sound like.
Beautiful.
I don't find it sad as much as I find it motivational. While there are no words, the build of this song says it all. "break away from whatever it is you need to break away from"
I find it melancholic and energetic at the same time, it's rare and weird to find both of these contradictory traits on the same music.
lovin this like mad! gonna play this kind of music in my new coffee shop in Brighton! c u there!
these two guys are exceptional,in a league all their own.yes original still exists! thank you.
I can't put it any other way, this is song is just so amazing. The perfect amount of chill encaptured in 4:20... wait a minute... 4:20? Ratatat you sly dawg.
Doesn't every musician seek to make all the different instruments sound like voices filled with emotion.. Ratatat has mastered this
I used to listen to this on my dads computer and just now remembered the song name. Very soothing!
Dem boyz R Niccccce wit it! .....Just became my fav. jam of the week
i love this! sounds kinda depressing but that's what makes ratatat so wonderful!

i get all nostalgic listening to this song, makes me thinking about cutting down on the weed, clear my head and get back to my old friends and tell the girl i like that i can't keep it a secret any longer... thumps up for this great kinda music!
i found Ratatat through that Seth Rogan film - Knocked Up. they played Tropicana in the movie, good thing i checked out the soundtrack
raajue3 i found them through "coffee town" (2013), they played lex in the intro
+raajue3 saw them live for the first time in 2009 in a WW2 bunker made in to a electro scene in Norway.

dont need a voice or lyrics to tell a story. breaking away, from whatever it is you need to get away from.
Couldn't be better said.

Great song, but what a depressing picture damn.
+Inexplicable Enigmas That kind of makes the song for me. Breaking Away is generally optimistic, but has slightly depressing undertones. It speaks to me, y'know? Makes you want to cry and laugh at the same time.
