Hi Danny! I have something to share :D I just recieved my 30l package of seramis! I bought it off the ebay for 50 euros and I am doing something rather unusual, I mixed it with pure perlite and hydraton clay pellets. I mixed everything into one big tub of seramis, perlite and leka in 2:1:1 and I am pretty happy with how it looks like. For all my oncidiums, brassias and cambrias I made only 2:1 (seramis and perlite, no leka) mixture and they seem to like it more that with leka, cause their roots are tiny and they don't need big leka pellets in medium for them to grow better. Phals, paphs, catts, cymbs and vandas I pot in 2:1:1 mixture, and they all seem to go crazyyyy for it! I am really happy in how everything turned out! I really glad that I found your channel Danny, cause on my own I would neeeeeeeever have found seramis! I'm really happy for finding your channel, You're the best person I've ever met! Keep up with wonderful work, and please, please oh please make more of "what's in my orchid pot?!?" cause it was hilarious and I really enjoyed it :)
Hi, that is a great idea to mix it with perlite :D does the perlite move everywhere when you water though? or are you using bigger perlite granules? this is actually quite the neat idea good job :) and I am very happy to hear your orchids are liking this set up, if I managed to inspire it I am even more happy and hope they will do great in the future as well :D will make more of those videos when I buy more orchids no worries ;)
I use medium sized perlite granules and when I water, it doesn't go everywhere out of the pot, it kinda sticks to itself and sticks to seramis when is wet, so it never goes everywhere. And one more thing, I use plastic pots instead of the clay pot, cause I didn't had much money at the time, altough it seems to work great with plastic pots also :)
yes G. atropurpurea has a very nice fragrance of clove plus that intense red color is fantastic as well..my histrionica just finished blooming but has a couple more spikes coming on..it smelled of vanilla..I also have quinquenervis but i have forgot how the fragrance is ...has been a year since it bloomed.
I had a hybrid once...that unfortunately i don't have anymore..was G. Pterydactyl...i remember the long long spikes of flowers and my greenhouse being filled with the a sweet but pungent smell..miss having it
Mother of dragons :D that Game of Thrones reference :D such an amazing orchid. would love to have her in my collection one day. everything would be even better if she would stay in bloom for a longer period of time. ^^
hehe I was set on the idea for 3 years now, since seeing Brad's video.. and when they opened tadaaa indeed dragons hehee.. yah been waiting for the dragons for 3 years.. got my first gongora 2 years ago.. or more? and killed it with Orchid Focus if I am not mistaken.. heh :P
MissOrchidGirl The shape of the flowers are a little like stanhopeas, but smaller and more delicate, and look more like dragons. I saw a stanhopea oculata in bloom last summer, and the blooms looked like winged shrimps dancing :) I wished I could have smelled their fragrance, but the botanical garden had made a barricade of large pots on the floor in front of it to keep the visitors at more than an arm's distance (maybe people had damaged or picked the blooms in the past, which is a shame). At least by extending my arm full length I managed to film it. Maybe they should give up the barricade and put a security guard to stand by the side of the plant whenever she is in bloom, like a Hollywood star. ;)
Oh dear, don't you just hate when people cannot control themselves? I think placing guards is more expensive so the barrier will stay. But I was just thinking the other days about this.. it's not kids that do the damage only, it's fully grown people too, I cannot understand this :(
I love the gongora it does look like little dragons. i have a question i want to start a new type of orchid i was thinking a brassavola what type would you suggest to a beginner
Hi, hmmm I would go with Little Stars, it's an easy hybrid and grows fast. However the most important thing is to get a fully mature one, the bushier the better. Seedligs take their time to develop :(
MissOrchidGirl Ohh thank you, I am getting myself a couple of birthday presents and i thought i would try something new i have a milltassia and 2 common phals ones purple and ones white. I ordered a sogo yukiden, a sharry baby, and a two brassavola one was jimminy cricket and the other was little stars
Oh right now it's very variable due to the A/C :p in the night it's around 75%, during day time with A/C on it's around 50% or a bit more if I water :) usually it's higher when windows are opened.
Sorry to ask a question about this Orchid videwo after such a long time. I have a Gongora Sanderiana. I wasn't really allowed to look at the roots when I bought her, but when we got home, and I repotted her...OH MY GOODNESS!! So. She now has no roots, and I'm worried I'm going to kill her. I currently have her "root side" (bottom) laying in Spag, but I'm not sure if she needs an enclosed environment due to the lack of roots. Thoughts?
Hi Danny, I am going to buy Gongora Unicolor would you mind to give me some tips how take care specially with new seramis. and also Catasetum :) Thank you Amir
Hi Amir, well my Gongora is doing great in seramis, but she really doesn't like to dry out too much, so I would not mix too much leca. Catasetums are doing great too but again, they can be very thirsty in the growing season so I would not mix leca in the seramis, if it is chunky seramis. If it is fine then it depends on the size of the pot :)
Cheers Danny as you know already I am living in Sydney and we have lots of problem to find orchid stuff and it is kind of expensive we may be able to do some kind of business something like orchitop or importing let me know if you are interested thank you Amir .
Hi Amir, well I am not a representative of orchitop or a business partner in that way, but you can contact them directly and propose something, I'm sure they will respond :D
Sorry to ask so many questions. This orchid has ridged pseudobulbs, but how do I know if a pseudobulb like that is a healthy one in a store? When I bought the oncidopsis black swartz I saw a very similar orchid that had pseudobulbs like these, and I thought the plant was very dehydrated and passed on buying it, despite it having a mild vanilla scent and vanilla / chocolate brown flowers. PS: been kind of binge watching your videos and you really have improved your tone and dialogue doing them. Listening to the new ones is so uplifting! More often than not I find possibly interesting orchid videos, but the sound quality is bad and the person doing them is like...almost annoyed? absolutely makes me wanna stop watching it, in contrast with yours! Cheers on the channel and personal growth, keep it up girl! :)
Hi, thank you I'm glad you enjoy my videos :D about the orchid you saw, it might have been an Oncidium Sharry Baby. That orchid naturally has ridges too, so it might have not been dehydrated at all. take a look here at mine ruclips.net/video/7xNNdnaUmYU/видео.html minute 3:19 I think you should go back for it, you won't regret it :) to see dehydration look for proper wrinkles, fine lines, also very thin pseudobulbs, leaf like almost. Ridges might not always be a sign of dehydration it just depends on the orchid variety :)
I forgot to mention the pseudobulbs had like dark spots, wich didnt seem normal or healthy to me. Im new to orchids and didnt want to waste 20 euros in a dying plant. Thanks for the answers as always.
Hi, no their spikes usually grow up and then droop down, the ones that send spikes through he pot are Stanhopeas. If the spike on the gongora has no space to go up though it might try to grow into the rim of the pot though :)
Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, the first of her name, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lady of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm, the Unburnt, Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chains, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea approve of this orchid!
Your clay pots with any type of orchid look great. I'm looking forward to see a tour of your entire greenhouse. Love your videos.
Thank you, I quite like them too compared to the clear ones I used to use :D

Your welcome :)
Thanks for sharing your Gongora...i have several and love them all!
:D any with a particular appealing fragrance?
yes G. atropurpurea has a very nice fragrance of clove plus that intense red color is fantastic as well..my histrionica just finished blooming but has a couple more spikes coming on..it smelled of vanilla..I also have quinquenervis but i have forgot how the fragrance is ...has been a year since it bloomed.

thanks for all the suggestions, I am seriously thinking of buying more gongoras, I just love these blooms :D
Beautiful!!!
Very nice!!! Although I see the flowers as more as an exotic bird, it's a very pretty orchid!!!
That's the beauty of orchids, you can imagine they look like whatever they inspire you :D
could you do a tour? i am very curious to see the difference between the green house and the balcony!
Soon I will, we are working on the gh these days and it will be presentable soon :)
Mother of dragons :D that Game of Thrones reference :D such an amazing orchid. would love to have her in my collection one day. everything would be even better if she would stay in bloom for a longer period of time. ^^
Haha couldn't help it :P yes well I guess we should make the best out of her bloom time :D
They do look like little flying dragons! :) I have seen one in flower before, but I didn't think of that at the moment. :)

MissOrchidGirl I agree with you, sadly it's grown up people who do the damage. :( The security guard thing was a joke. :)
Hey Dani, I'd like to see a care Video on the Gongora. I was recently gifted a Gongora Grossa and I'm not sure what to do. Thanks :)
have not seen one before please can you show a video medusa orchid mine perished it has white powder puff like white flowers thank you
Hi, unfortunately my medusa perished too in the move :( I am looking to buy another one, a more established plant if possible.
Beautiful, love the shape! :)
My gongora actually lasted for a couple of weeks... but it was in flower las autumn with cooler temperatures...
ooh that's great, maybe mine will last at least a week, I would be happy with that :D
If a dragon and a wasp had a love child, that would be it.
Beautiful.
ahahahaha comment of the day :))

Hi, I think a bed of moss will do, just make sure to keep it damp. Good luck hope it makes a full recovery soon! :D
Hey Dani, where can I buy a Gongora orchid online?
Hi, google for the nearest orchid nursery, or one in your country or economic region. They don't tipically ship to other teritories :)
Danny i was changing my phalaeophsis pot and i lost one of it's new leaf 🙁 what will happen next ?
Hi, no worries, the orchid will produce new leaves :0 just make sure the area doesn't get wet and infects that's all :)
