This song reflects just one of many possible interpretations of these events. We will not know how it all comes about until that day.
There are several prophetic descriptions of the Day of the Lord found in various books of the Bible, including Zephaniah 2-3, Joel 2, Micah 4, Malachi 4, Matthew 24, Luke 21, Mark 13, 1 Thessalonians 5, Revelation and others. Each provides complementary details and images for before, during and after "the great and terrible day of the Lord". Jesus said, "The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken. Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in Heaven. And the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of Heaven, with power and great glory. And He will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds from one end of the Heavens to the other... Heaven and Earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." Matthew 24: 29-31, 35.
