I wrote a really good song. This couple asked if they could perform it out, because I'm not "out" yet but they are. I agreed. They changed it. I said ok, you can play it how it suits you but I will be playing it how I wrote it. Now they play it but are taking credit for "co-writing." I know I should let this go, but it really bothers me. It was my song, and it's almost not even the same song anymore. I feel like I was robbed.
You were. The minute you produce or write something it is COPywrited. Look up music copywriting. They cannot claim is as a co-write because you did not agree in a contract to that. You might look up some gentle legal sentence you can tell them about artists copywrite laws. You can also send it in for free to the copyright org to register it and date it. For a fee it’s doubly copywriten. Look up copyright law and music writes and government site.
