  • The Walter T2711 / T2712 is the first thread milling system which combines highest productivity with absolute process reliability. It is the first indexable thread mill which is able to compete with - and in many cases to even outperform - the productivity of taps. In addition to cost savings, the manufacturer benefits from absolute process reliability - while achieving perfect thread quality.
Today, manufacturers face a dilemma when machining larger threads:if they decide to apply taps, then it is often possible to realize a short machining time. But tapping results in high torques, the danger of bird nests and high tool costs. If they decide to use thread mills, in many cases a long machining time is the result. The process reliability is being increased and the tool costs are reduced - but the cost savings are limited because of the long machining time. When using the Walter T2711 / T2712, this dilemma is resolved: highest productivity can be combined with absolute process reliability. The problem of cost pressure and the problem of process reliability can be addressed at the same time.
The Walter T2711 / T2712 is a universal indexable thread mill for threads starting from M24 / UNC1. Machinable pitches range from 1,5-6 mm and 18-4 TPI. ISO P, M, K, S and H materials up to 55 HRC can be machined. In the standard range we cover dimensions from M24 to M48 as well as UNC 1 to UNC 1 1/2. For specials there are no limits, a M160x6 thread can be realized easily - with the needed inserts being standard products. Thanks to Walter Xpress, special tools can be provided with a delivery time of 3 weeks.
The Walter T2711 / T2712 family is characterized by:
100 % Productivity: low cost per thread because of fast machining and high tool life
100 % Process reliability: easy handling and infrequent radius corrections
100 % Quality: very good thread quality because of smooth run, the threads are free from chip residues

Why if Walter T27XX has the same performance as a cut tap, Walter is more profitable? Thanks!!!

My opinion would be that you buy the tool only once, and then only 10-15 dollar inserts versus an expensive tap that still needs to be replaced once in a while. Seems profitable to me in the sense that you have one tool to thread anything.

@@danielcloutier6650 That is correct Daniel. A tap will also break in the material, so if the workpiece is expensive - milling is safer. The inserts can be changed without long stops, the tool is more adaptive due to changing of the inserts for other pitches and coating.
