I have a 04 E500 wagon 4matic. I really like the looks overall. The car was fully optioned by the original buyer so I have air suspension, drive dynamic heated and cooled seats and much more. No plans to get rid of it. It's a pleasure to drive and Best of all it's paid for, no big money out of my pocket each month in loan payments.
I just bought one with 90000 miles on the clock on a 52 plate , it drives like new and a very nice car to drive , I have owned newer models of the e 3.2 and and this defo competes with its newer rivals
Yeah these cars do drink a bit of fuel. My dad's friend had a basic one with a kompressor engine (forgot what size engine) and he commented about the fuel. One E class that I drove and liked was the newer style E350d. Now that was fast

Most of the engines are very good on these models. I would personally go for the 3.2 Inline-6 Diesel. It's fast, fairly economical, refined and most importantly bulletproof. They do have a few issues but nothing major. Biggest issue is probably the unreliable air suspension, but most don't have that anyway. The gearbox I found is actually more responsive overall than the newer 7-tronic (but a lot of these after 2006 had this gearbox). the five speed takes longer to change, but is overall smoother and provides a more relaxing driving experience.

SBC brake failure £2000, air suspension failure (if specced) £1000-£3000, rust, electrical gremlins. The W211 was crap when it was new and it’s crap now.

I've forever been a fan of Mercedes, but never took the plunge to buy one for fear of the running costs

You say it’s the 320 then say it’s got the 2.6 so makes it the E240.

hello
i'm thinking about buying this car. what are the common problems to consider and which are the most chronic malfunctions? is the gearbox good?
