Hon they are called halters not harness. And you can’t show fear around horses or any animals, they can sense it and become fearful too. They don’t know what you are scared of so they become scared too. Be strong, be fearless and you will do fine. That’s why little kids do so well with animals, they have no fear.

Great suggestion. Clever Cowgirl started her channel to help others learn how to care for rescue horses. She just rescued a starving horse and is using the UC Davis protocol to refeed it. Thanks for taking on this challenge! Look forward to the journey. Subscribed.

You guys are awesome, and y'all have good heart's and a childlike innocence 😂.
Always remember, animals respond to love, and it's clear you guys love animals.
There's a ton of knowledge available for you out there.
Monty Roberts and Clever Cowgirl really love horses and are exceptional horse folks.
    Love your attitudes.
God bless guys, and your beautiful horses.
I'm Lebanese, so I adore my Arabians.
But any horse lover will tell you.. it's not possible to love one breed.
It's the horse, the animal, that's just so irresistibley beautiful.❤👍💪❤️😊

Congrats, you can do it. I only have one suggestion, find someone who already has horses, and have them walk you through some of the basics, join a chat, ,( books dont tell you the nitty gritty stuff..or " tricks" to owning horses, you will be fine , not any horse peson was born an expert..,lol like i said , a good way to learn reach out, tell your story, and im sure there will be nice average people ( not pro horse trainers) that will help you learn and be nice about it and be glad to help. Much love, enjoy your new family members

That is awesome. Our neighbors do riding lessons and run a horse rescue. They have 17 horses. They often run horses on half our property, they mow down our pasture for us. So in a yr and a half I went from afraid, to a lot more relaxed. They will follow me on my walks, and just love attention. My neighbor told me to think of them as toddlers. You cant let them get away with stuff.

New here. There is a channel called “Sam Van Fleet” that I highly recommend. She works unhandled mustangs. I have watched a lot of horse channels and Sam explains horse body language and how to do things safely. Samantha has playlists for each mustang, and so it’s easy to watch them progress.
I started riding in high school for 4-H in 1974. Sam may be the most gifted, kindest trainer I have seen.
Another channel The Clever Cowgirl does an excellent job explaining feeding, types of hay, hoof care along with training.
RUclips recommended your channel, I subscribed. I love the outdoors, gardening so I think I will enjoy watching.
Glad the horses have a new home. I would do vet first, let them recommend farrier. Your vet should know of a trainer that could show you how to handle them safely. It’s important so neither the horses or you all get hurt. They look like very nice horses. A little working with them and they will come around.

By the way, after reading comments, you have been given a lot of great advice and tips here. Don’t get discouraged. The horses all seem to be pleasant in temperament and with daily interaction and a few treats they will come around quick. I worked at a saddlery way back and we refurbished saddles as well as made custom ones. We would scrub mildewed saddles with a stiff brush and Murphy’s oil soap, then rub kerosene into the leather, followed by Lexol leather dressing. Yep, Kerosene. 50 years ago, there was an old saddle cleaner that was just kerosene. Just be sure critical parts like girth, straps are not dry rotted so have lost strength and more apt to break.

Do not shave them in winter, that is their winter coat and they need it! The black horse is limping and has a deformed front right leg that needs vet attention as soon as possible. They should all have their teeth checked in case they need to be floated. Their feet look good. All they need is a good brushing to get the burrs out and their feet picked. They do not need to be bathed in winter, again just a good brushing.
Good luck with them lol, but they will be fine, once you start working with them, it will all come back to them. When working with them, put the halter and lead rope on them so you have control. And work them in a small enclosure, not in the pasture. Also they are used to being together and I think the white mare in the boss of them. If you try to separate them they will not be happy and they will freak out like when the black one was left in the trailer. Again good luck!

WD40 will help get the cockleburrs out of their mane and forelocks and tails. Just don't spray it in their face They may not like the hiss and might slap at you. To cold to bath them and use detangler. "Cowboy Magic" is the best. Good luck with them. The black one does need the RF knee checked.

Smoke has an enlarged knee. I had an Arab with a big knee. I got him free knowing it was irreparable and eventually arthritis will set in. We had him for 12 years before we had to euthanize . I rode him lightly for about six years then retired him because I didn’t want to cause undo pain.Hopefully you will have better results. Please read up and study horses because you can cause damage .As big as horses are they have fragile digestive systems too. Lots of good hay is better than grain. I use hay nets to keep waste at a minimum . Hay in Ohio is $7.00 a bale stacked.I feed free choice hay in nets. Lots to learn but it can be exciting and fun.

The training a horse has had they don't forget it's like riding a bike for them the major factors are excess energy and learning to know what you want, your different people then they are used to ,a round pen for working them and getting them used to you would be ideal ,just putting a halter on tying them and brushing them often will do wonders in getting them used,to you ... a lot of the dirt and burrs will comb out the rest will shed out

We are watching tons of videos to get some knowledge. I work with a few nurse here is the 3 types. 1 cow girl with horses worked everyday, 2 “horses should only be ridden in spring and fall” and 3. Saddle them up now and get them to work. Not sure how I feel about any of these advice 😳
I called the vet and they are out 2-3 weeks for full physical and floating (hell I had to learn that terminology) lol their teeth. We will do it all the same appointment. And we have a hoove guy coming out in 2 weeks.
The horses are doing great and Marc has been interacting with them every morning and evening.

Patients and kindness goes a long way. Keep hooves clean from dirt, rocks ice etc. Grooming is great for bonding and just hanging in the field its good for bonding, learning the pack dynamics and personalities. The should be together and need a dry space that can also protect from the wind and space where there hooves can dry. Read up on colic and the signs of colic because stressed horses can colic.

No we don’t. These horses were given to us by someone who cannot take care of them anymore, so we are still figuring out a lot of stuff.
We plan to use the big steel building that we will be working on this winter if time and weather allows it, and in there we will have a tack shed and hay storage and we just made a small pasture for that situation.
We were not really looking into horses till we had someone approach us and needed our help.

You should put halters , which their called by the way , on them to lead them into the trailer, each, one by one. It's really the proper way to trailer a horse. Not keep allowing them to run around like that and expecting them to know what you want them to do. They don't. Even horses that get trailer regularly gets halters by the owners to be lead into trailers . Nor do they know either of you and their scared. Meeting them a few times doesn't have them know you are your intentions towards them. And that black one. It's not good for it to be running around scared like that with an injury. Which it looks like it has on it's front right leg. It could actually do it even more damage. Causing it to be in more pain . That really needs to be checked out by a Veterinarian right away. And never , ever show a horse fear. They actual can sense your fear and it makes them scared and fearful too. Horse's are very intelligent animals. Their very sensitive. And believe it are not they do understand people more than you realize . You have to continually have a positive attitude around the them , always. One that's loving and reassuring. And always have a claim reassuring voice while talking to them. Which is a necessity you continually do while around them. And please do not shave their winter coats . That's definitely a no no.
It really protects them from the snow and the cold. It's their insulation for the winter. And no baths during winter at all. A good brushing works wonders. Besides horses shouldn't be bath but maybe twice a year. During the warmer months, you can wet them down to cool them off but not baths . Also have a Veterinarian come out and check each of them out throughly. It could be costly, but that's the price you have to be willing to pay for owning horses . It's part of owning them. If you can't afford to put the money out on them . Hordes are not cheap by any means. And the Veterinarian should be checking their teeth to checking yes even their poop. Which can tell the Veterinarian a lot about a horses health even . Which even you both should get to know about. It can tell you a lot in ways about their health. Also ask your Veterinarian about their diets . Not all horses have the same diet. They need much more than just hey and oaths. No disrespect here intended. Just some good advice from another horse owner. I'm wishing you both the best in this . I'm sure you'll give your new horses a great loving and caring home. Much respect. P. S. do not be riding these horses right away. They haven't been riden in years. You have to work with these horses all over again to get them back in shape to be riden again. And that takes time. You could do them serious harm otherwise. Please take my advice into serious consideration. For your horses . Also provide have a shelter for them outside. And never continually keep them in the barn. It's really not good for them. Only when necessary. And always keep them together , their hard animals. They need to stay together.

      1. We will not shave the horses (The previous owners suggested that), but we did not shave them or plan on it 2. I work in the ER as an RN. Everything scares me, and my husband is already telling me to calm down, so I GET IT. 3 We have been visiting them for the last 6 months, and this is the closest we have gotten to them; we loaded them one at a time (we stated that in the video). 3. HALTER got it (as I said, this is very new to me). There is terminology I need to learn. That's ok, sorry for any confusion. 4. They will always be together we will do our best not to seperate them. I know I keep saying to wash them but its because I just dont know better, but no real plan to do that.
Over a year ago, these horses lost their owner; if we did not get them, they would not have feed or water over winter. We have some contacts to take care of hooves, and after that, we will get them a full lookover from the VET.

Those are called halters. Something you put on the head. A harness is something you put on the body of the horse. Please, if you know nothing about horses. Consult a horse trainer or a local horse club. Good luck.

Please do not clip (shave) those horses. Invest in some good grooming tools and employ some elbow grease. The black horse needs to be seen by the vet. You can't rowdy horses around like you do cows. They also need to be together - they have been together for a long time and separating them will stress them out. And, it's a halter. Not a harness.

They are smelling all the ranch smells. Thinking before you clean, you bring in a vet. Does the front right knee look good on the black? And check their teeth. Obviously you are in heaven. Now, where are you all keeping them this winter?

Please don't shave or wash your rescued horses. Its too cold. Brushing is great and you'll need a vet check . Everyone is rooting for you. Hopefully you will hook up with some experienced friends to help guide you in your efforts.❤

Mark has good horse sense. He will show you how to manage them. You learned so much already.
They are obviously appreciative of your care. Horses love work and routine. They respond to respect and authority. Kindness is usually reciprocated with their own willingness to please you. They will be a wonderful addition to your farmstead as long as their needs are met. They will be ok outside most of the time but an open-air shelter will be welcomed as soon as you can manage it. They don’t need heat as long as they can stay dry and out of bitter wind 💨.
I can’t wait to see them start to trust you all. They will never forget your help.

Wow, now you have become horse ranchers, now all you need to do is learn how to look after them, the first lesson is don't ever assume that they know what you are saying! And the black horse looks like she has an injured front leg that needs attention before you start barrel racing her.
