So great! New neurology hospital nurse here. This is so beneficial. Two questions though that Ive been searching online forever for: So many ischemic stroke pts arent eligible for tpa or surgical intervention, and we just give them aspirin and atorvastatin and monitor. Many pts and nurses think this is supposed to help them, but from what ive gathered, this is used just to prevent another ischemic stroke. Is this true? Also, why cant these meds treat acute ischemic strokes? A relative situation is how aspirin is to be immediately given for myocardial infarcts. MIs are caused by Stemis and Nstemis. Nstemis cause partial occlusion yet still cause infarction of cardiac tissue (side note: I have no clue why aspirin is given with a stemi). If most ischemic strokes are caused by thrombotic plaques then why cant they help improve blood flow and help resolve the penumbra. (Also, can we even accurately detect full occlusion vs partial occlusion in the brain?). Thank you.

I dont get the difference between infarct and necrosis. Thought an infarct was necrotic tissue.
