- Putin meeting in CHina and Push for Kharkiv could be part of a bid to see Russia recognised as a global naval and military power, but with the Baltics surrounded by NATO allies this might be impossible says Robert Fox, defence editor for the Evening Standard.

Are you serious? Zelensky was talking non stop since the start of the war, about Ukraines deficiency in the air. Ukrainians begged for air power support of any kind. What a shameful thing, suggesting that Ukraine somehow didn’t give air power aspect enough attention.
Excellent point. The West didn't lift a finger for the whole first year. If they had taken it seriously we'd have been on the sencond tranche of fighter jet donation and armament by now. If we had REALLY taken it seriously we'd have all allowed our pilots and equipment to go fight in Ukraine's side, at least as to the enforcement of air superiority.
It's important to put the blame for losing the war on Ukraine not us.
What an ignorant statement...
This guy speaks largely in hyperbole. He needs to simmer it down a bit and listen to what he's actually saying

Russia never was, isn't, and never will be a naval superpower. They want to be, but it just isn't so.

Anyone who says Ukraine needs to negotiate with russia has absolutely zero expertise in military or geopolitics and should not be taken seriously.
?
@@stevecross9922 The USSR and then Russia have never negotiated in good faith, and will break any agreement as soon as they feel it is to their advantage. A pause will just give them time to refit and improve their military before their next push.
Exactly
Easy saying that sitting there in your pyjamas while hundreds of thousands of have died in this conflict.
What's wrong with negotiating? It doesn't mean you have to accept an unpalatable offer
So if this guy doesn't understand why the Ukranians didn't build defensive lines, he could ask why the Russians didn't do likewise? It was just too dangerous and easily within reach of barrel artillery on both sides.
We were building defensive lines, but when we were putting dragon teeth in, but our equipment was being shelled and destroyed. We weren't able to finish the lines.
important point, it's nearly impossible to build defenses under artillery fire, AND especially when you have limited manpower. Russia has 10 times the manpower to build things.
Especially when ukr can't fire back
Exactly. Correct, all of you. Major defensive lines aren't built that close to the border and enemy artillery. Still defenses have still been built. They can easily be seen on Google maps.
There's lines on both sides
His overestimation of the Russian war machine has hints of Cold War adoration of his former nemesis. Not so much ‘cold water in the face’ as one foot in the past.
He's on the payroll.
Yes that is my take as well Russia exported its greatness myth to many starstruck progressive academics and they continue to work by this faulty paradigm. This is the case for the POTUS and his cabinet as well
'Let's see what Russia's minimal demands will be'!? The whole of Ukraine, the Baltics, Moldova, Georgia, for starters? Just listen to what they say! All they want now is a little pause, call it 'peace', and then strike again! Just read their manual, ffs!

I am not convinced that Mr Fox knows much about the current situation in Ukraine and related geo-politic. Talking a lot but not saying much.
Putin should be worried about China reclaiming North Manchuria. China has already started using Manchu names on maps for areas in Russia that were once Chinese.
Also, Japan reclaiming their islands!
And Ukraine should build trenches around Lviv. The Poles are getting restless and want their Polish cities in Ukraine back

@@bmunson4920 That would be wonderful. But it would have to be run by the EU as the Poles and Lithuanians wouldn't like it.
It's not possible to build defensive lines at the border when there is constant bombardment, when Ukraine is not allowed to strike within ruzzia. The ruzzian military enjoys sanctuary on their side of the border. This is why they moved in. Ukraine saw the troops buildup and could not do anything about it.
So if you have weak area of defence ( and not all areas can be equal )then it would be normal to reinforce that area with armour , artillery and air support.
The ORCS don't have a navy 😅

The reason why Ukraine is struggling was the drip feed of equipment with unrealistic retrictions on there use. Dont blame it on Zellinsky blame it on Biden et al. The Ukranians still have done wonders with all that.
Enough equipment not to loose, not enough to win.
The difference is the lack of ability to strike at gathering forces using US weapons. It is not about Ukrainian capabilities. Hopefully this will change.

Cool fact - our Canadian Arctic Rangers are trial running EV skidoo's. That'd be a heck of a way to sneak up on someone.

Thank God for a truth-teller, at last.
Anyone who was familiar with Russian history knew with 100% certainty that Russia would not allow Ukraine to go over the to the Western alliances. As soon as Yanukovych was ousted the current path was set in stone. Russia had already been preparing to head off Ukraine' move toward the West but that was just the final trigger. Russia has always obsessed over keeping the Black Sea ports.
I don't think Russia got 300,000 plus soldiers in there if that's the case then that means Ukraine military already killed at least 300,000 of them because Russia invaded Ukraine with at least least 180,000 of them

Retire, old man. Most of what you said is inaccurate.
He is spot on! We in the west lot but in the end too little too late…
As time goes by, we look too much within ourselves while politics and war goes on outside and it continues. It hasn’t changed from day one in the war and we need to remember that.!
We need to speed up and realize what is going on. I’m not just talk about it but do something.
We need to go into war industrial speed.
What is he talking about. Sounds like a bubbling old man with little understanding of Ukraine war and Russian’s weakness. He still sees Russia as a super power.
Like it or not, russia has the initiative at the moment and by all accounts their moral is high. The west has been far to slow to respond and 2 years into the war we still haven’t been able to supply Ukraine with the same number of missiles fired by Russia…let alone exceed it. NATO obviously has the superior army to Russia but what about if China and Belarus get involved ? This war isn’t over until russia has been kicked back to its borders.
Look how many new submarines he's added!
It's 1905 in slow motion for Putin. All weapons provided to Ukraine came with the understanding that Ukranians can do with them as they wish, no matter what anyone says officially in public.
Time for an Alliance to go into Ukraine. I'm not so sure that it can be NATO though.
The only Baltic country that is not in NATO is Russia itself ("St Petersburg *and* Kaliningrad.)
Is this a re-post of an interview made before Sweden officially joined?
Well, that was fun. On the whole I would rather listen to Gen. Ben Hodges.
Russia doesn't need a large navy. England is an island. The U.S. needs a navy to carry out operations in europe, the middle east, and asia. Trains and superhighways in Russia would allow them to transport personnel and equipment to places in Russia faster. BTW, the English navy is not what it was. England leased some ships in order to carry out operations in the Falkland Islands. The Russians had an unimpressive navy in WW2.
all but 1 baltic countries are NATO ?? which baltic state does he not believe to be NATO ? or does he confuse Kaliningrad with a baltic nation ?. would be benefitial to raise the bar here for socalled experts

Just reflecting on why you would want the young people to stay behind to keep the economy going.... The ukrain border was being monitored by Russia for years and every time they tried to build strength, they would be targeted so unable to build anything, nor construct anything , so they put the main defence many k behind the border. The border force role was to hold them for 24 hours to allow back fill with forces……. So not as bad as the news and some people call it.

I think people are not unstanding one thing with border of Russia being so close Ukraine can't use artillery or long range stuff because of America saying they can't use weapons inside Russia so how can defend a area so close too Russian border you can't use long range assets too push or slow Russian but Russia can exspolit there border too use there long range assets like artillery so it pretty much one sided maby people need stop saying thing that give Russian the advantage and put Ukraine at disadvantage like we did by making them throw troop at Russian heavly defend areas which has now put them on back foot as well as delaying the supply
Ukraine is weak because of the slow walking of the defense equipment Ukraine is fighting with one hand behind there backs !
In America, this is what happens when you give the democrat party a chance to show their ideas. We end up wasting lives, time, and money.
If Taiwan heats up, the US will abandon Israel before it abandons Ukraine. Israel serves no strategic purpose, whereas Ukraine would prevent Russian interference.
