I've done lots of woodworking/building. I have no experience processing logs with a sawmill. After watching hundreds of this type video on YT, I find it somehow mesmerizing and enjoyable to watch these logs being transformed into lumber. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for sharing. I can see you put a lot of thinking into your mill set up. A lot of time laying awake at night, just thinking how you can make it easier and simpler. Great Job Young Man. Greetings from an old Man in Northern Michigan. I really enjoyed this video.
Full Line Ridge I really enjoyed the video logs to lumber beautiful grain boards and you had help thats great he might have been the same one that was cutting the grass. Thanks all be blessed.
The old timers around my house will not build with white pine. They prefer yellow pine for strength in the bones of the structure. Looks like a nice day's work. :)
What I like a lot about your videos is how you change views from many angles to make it more interesting. I usually watch whole way thru each one. Much more engaging and not boring! Your upgrade continues to be very productive and much safer than tractor. God bless you and family.
hello fall line ridge my name is Ernest Ray DeLong, you were talking about that book the flag was still standing ,well I orderd the book and I got it today and I started to read it .
A lot more energy to saw logs without having to wrestle them logs onto mill Log deck and raising the mill off the ground sure does make life easier. nice job and nice lumber
I've made several winch booms and installed at these little Mills they really take alot of work out of it. All it takes is like a six inch piece of pipe, a front spindle off an old two ton truck welded on top and a four inch tubing welded out from it with a small electric (3500lb four-wheeler winch) with half of a logging tong on the cable, takes all care of all your turning and positioning needs....
Nice job. I've thought that if I milled my own wood, I'd have a similar set up......but to get the logs to the level of the mill, I'd have a welded frame that I could slip a floor jack under and get them up that way. But the mill would have to be lower to the ground as most floor jacks won't raise more than 17".
I recognize this process! Nice editing man! Isn't it wonderful to have an extra set of skilled hands around when milling? You do all these little things that and make all these extra movements that can suddenly be eliminated with help. I swear I walk three miles around that mill when I am going through a bunch of logs like this. Good work here.
Bus Huxley It’s wonderful! He helps me out one day a week here and it’s a great help. Appreciate the compliment! I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve learned some of my editing tricks from your videos and shamelessly stolen the ideas.
As I have done from the countless videos before mine! All art is derivative from what came before it. To take something someone has done and tweak it, twist it, shape it to make it their own is the process of creation of art. There is no shame whatever in that. I really appreciate the comment though. I am looking forward to warmer weather so i can start playing around a bit more with trickery. My batteries don't last very long in the cold and I have been in lumber production mode of late. @@falllineridge
Have you thought about making removable extensions for your ramp to load directly from the trailer? This would save wear and tear on the winch. Plus you could roll the logs straight from the trailer.
Good idea....Look up Smart Car Ramps. Mine are 12' long, 12" wide and fold in half. 58 lb per ramp. Capacity over a ton for the pair. I offload my Smart car from the deck of the Volvo 730 rv hauler. These would definitely work for you.
Great video and nice haul of lumber. Always nice to have a friend help. Many hands makes light work. Tell the little troublemaker he needs to help more. Bet he was slacking in the dog house chasing rabbits in his dreams:)
Looking at ur mill gets me to thinking that the exhaust shoot could be longer. Here's an idea for that. Get a piece of PVC 4" pipe about 18" long. Cut one end about 4-6" in from the end. U could use a t pattern. Once cut then carefully heat the end of ur cut from one to another them fold back once the PCC has softened some. Thus will make flanges to attach the pipe to the mill. This will help so u font walk in sawdust while ur milling. Also u could try to use a winch to load onto the mill if u could get it to in the other direction. Good luck. Reminds me of when I worked with some Amish friends in their mill.
It's been a while since I've seen any of your videos. I see you've made some changes. Getting the mill up off the ground and building a ramp, with a winch look really good. Sweet.
might i make a suggestion when you pull up with the trailer right next to the ramp use some 4 inch angle iron from the platform to the trailer and just roll the timber over into position save using the winch ,
here is a idea for something that will lift and move the logs from platform to the track.. ever see those bottle jacks from harbor freight that run on air. make two beams hooked to cross members that will raise those beams at a pivot point to lift and roll the logs onto the track. a cheap compressor to run it.
I really like the winch/ramp set up you have built. I have a smaller hobby mill and I have been thinking of upgrading because of size limitations. Looks like you are having a good time with yours.
Sorry I'm la week late posting been busy with volunteer work for the cub Scouts. But looks like the new skids and ramps are working good. Looks like about time to put that roof over head next to dry it in.
My neighbor helps me sometimes and it’s the little things that speed it up like holding or rolling a log and moving the slabs. Plus having someone to talk to always makes work more fun.
I am curious why you didn’t use the height of trailer to load onto your ramps, just need couple of 4 x4. Think it would save you some time an lots of work. I do have a sawmill on trailer. I use hand boat winch an have electric winch with remote. To load turn an position logs. Back savers are a good thing.
Dude, you can't just have a new guy on without telling us who he is. He just appeared all of a sudden. Need some introductions. He looks like a cool dude, btw.
Just a thought ,, next time you arrive with a trailer of logs and your platform is empty ,, make your self a couple of steel box section extensions and roll your logs directly onto your platform ,,
put a set of forks on your tractor- place just out of way to stack bark slabs on- easy to haul to a burn pile the come get the lumber- a lot less walking that way
Any possibility in making a metal funnel for the cut sawdust coming out that is further away from your cutter and lower sow you won’t be walking in it and it blowing all over you? Keep up the good work.
You could cut some timbers to make a bridge from your trailer right onto the log deck. Park the trailer the right distance from the deck with the tires at the end of the ramp and roll the logs right across. I'd love to see how you would chain saw engineer such a bridge.
Some people don't have a clue on milling logs , my friend your one of them or is it just for the camera ! Hope the logs aren't costing you anything but a thank you !
May I say " nice production increase due to the platform"? A couple of extra hands doesn't hurt either! Now you need to make a toeboard from a scissor jack and get it mounted. Also, I wish my mower would move that fast! Lol!
Nice logs! But your working your self by putting the logs back down on the ground after they have been up on the trailer, your ramps should be hinged to hook to your trailer Deck.
I think you should build that loading ram separately, maybe four or five feet away with the mill, then anytime when you need to load a log just using two removable rails... that way you can walk around the mill freely.
I love the work ethic and the fact that Two Americans are just working Together as it should be , I miss the mill !

This was great to watch. Thanks for posting.
Great video especially with the music. Thanks.
I'm looking at those wide planks and thinking "FLOORING!!!" Fantastic job on the video too.
Thought exactly the same thing. S. Yellow Pine makes excellent flooring; hard, long-wearing, and beautiful.
@@smasica better make sure those wide boards are super dry before using as they WIILL shrink a lot
Nice haul of logs. Good to see you had a helper to speed up the milling.
Sure is nice to have a helper. Nice lumber.
Thanks for all the "up close" shots, now I have a better idea what all the hand motions do before cutting. That's a lot of wood to cut in a day.
Lee Peterson Two separate days for this, but I’m confident it could have been done in a day with time to spare.
I like your choice of milling music... and it's good to see you have a milling buddy as company and a extra set of hands!
Thanks for sharing. I can see you put a lot of thinking into your mill set up. A lot of time laying awake at night, just thinking how you can make it easier and simpler. Great Job Young Man. Greetings from an old Man in Northern Michigan. I really enjoyed this video.
That is some pretty pine wood. Nice job.
Hope you enjoyed making it as much as I did watching it.
Sweet logs ,, makes them so easy to mill nice and straight
Son! Thems some big ass trees u r sawing my Southern brother!
Love the camera mounted to the waste slab as you carried it away. This great stuff.
It feels good to get things dialed in to the way it works best for you, well done!
Jeff Hogue Thank you!
Looks like the platform & log deck are working out for you !
NICE looking boards your cutting there !
SYP is one of my favorite woods. Can never have enough!
Looks like your log ramp is working like a charm, I’m thinking about doing one for my mill once I get it set up. Great video!
Awesome set up
Glad you got a good friend to help!
Good job. I like it !
Nice lumber if you have a small mill looks good .

What beautiful wood. Your sawmill is a lot easier to use now. I'd love to be there to see this in person.
Pretty SY pine Wes. I like that stuff. Sawmill looks to be working just as you intended. Nice.
Great Plains Craftsman SYP is my favorite. The mill works great. Huge improvement. Appreciate you stopping by!
You do such a great job. I really enjoy your channel.
Those are some nice yellow pine boards!!
Excellent video footage. Turned out some nice lumber. 👍
Nice progress! The winch appears to be doing the job! Looks like a big lawnmower too? LOL! Great to have help. Makes it go much faster!
Love this setup. How did I ever miss this one?
Nicely edited....made a long video seem 'worth it'.
Thumbs up on the choice of mill also....it was my first mill(have since moved onto the LT28
That's a "heap of lumber"! Well done! Good work! #KeepTheChipFlying!

Dillons Woodworks Thanks, Mike! Having help is amazing.
I like your log deck. 👍🏼
Really nice lumber !
Looks like a win win win situation! Sweet looking boards, good cutting techniques and great video production. ....Good job dude!
This was very satisfying for me to watch, I’m not sure why I like logs getting turned into wood planks. Thanks!

I wanted to say get you a ATV winch and run it to a car battery. Makes it easier on your back! Great videos.
It's been a while since I've seen any of your videos. I see you've made some changes. Getting the mill up off the ground and building a ramp, with a winch look really good. Sweet.
Great Job.... Looks like you could use a solar panel for keeping the battery charged...
I don't know what kind of lawn mower that guy was using in the background. But I want one of those. Man that thing moves LOL
Awesome grain.

Damn man, you got enough planks to build a barn.
Nice load of planks there , looks great ..Awesome video , the quality improves with each one . Keep up the good work bud
If you have no other use for the bark scab lumber, you should advertize it for firewood. That would be Win-win.
Hello thank you for your reply to my question at least you have offered good luck on your timber manufacturing nice timber or as you say lumber 😀
Your next project is that you should either buy or make a leveling platform to raise you top end of your log for the first two cuts.
that is what I meant to say is Toe-boards
Excellent!!
Sorry I'm la week late posting been busy with volunteer work for the cub Scouts. But looks like the new skids and ramps are working good. Looks like about time to put that roof over head next to dry it in.
Nice work bro...
The beginning looks like one of those old truck commercials
Who was your helper? It makes a world of difference having a second set of hands when you have a manual sawmill

If you peal your logs your blades will last a lot longer I use a round spade on shovel handle works great.

How about a small battery powered leaf blower to get rid of the sawdust after every cut?
The winch could be totally be eliminated by positioning the logs and trailer close to the ramp and roll the logs right off on the log deck.
I think you should build that loading ram separately, maybe four or five feet away with the mill, then anytime when you need to load a log just using two removable rails... that way you can walk around the mill freely.

I would strongly suggest that when you upgrade, go with hydraulics.
