The actions of Biden over Nordstream though not widely known so far among European populations and the consequences for EU industry and employment will end support for the US and this will be exacerbated by Trump's threats of tariffs if they do not buy more US LNG that is four times the cost of Russian gas and that neither industry not the public can afford. Likewise his demand that EU States pay 5% of GDP will lead to many leaving the alliance probably leaving only Poland, the Baltic States, Finland, Sweden and Norway to carry the costs. If y some miracle Trump agrees to the proposal for a new European Security Agreement even those remaining members will no longer be able to be members and we can expect Europe under new leadership to seek membership of BRICS and eventually join Russia in a new Eurasian partnership at the expense of the USA - even the UK is negotiating a deal with China with the city trading the Yuan as a major currency.

Rachel, what you did not mention is that Russians did not want to kill Ukrainians in this war. You see, Kyiv is the old capital city of Russia. The large number of Russian speakers in Ukraine is there because they are all Russians, they always lived there. It was Lenin who wanted to divide Russia into multiple sub-nations and let them practice "friendship between nations". It's interesting that Uzbeks and Tajiks once were one bilingual nation, it was a bureaucratic mistake that they were split in two national republics, but probably that bureaucratic mistake also was intentional. But back to the conflict. For people who want to reconstruct the Russian Empire (Putin is not one of them, but such people exist), Ukraine is a part of Russia, and Ukrainians are brainwashed Russians. They must be persuaded, re-brainwashed, coerced, but not killed. There are people in Russia who recognise Ukraine as an independent state: whatever the history was, now they are independent. These people also did not want to kill Ukrainians. And, finally, there were people who were opposed to Putin whatever he did. (These people wanted but could not change the regime, and when the war began, they were sanctioned by the West for their failure.) From the point of view of Russians, it is the West that wants to fight "to the last Ukrainian". So yes, when NATO personnel appear in Ukraine, they become a priority target (and Russians already did report about such cases).
