He said "d times v divided by d times t" but in calculus, d is not a variable or constant, but a concept that can most accurately be compared to a function. Dx with a capital "D", or delta x means change in x, but with a smaller d, it stands for differential, and basically means "really small". Simply put, if he actually understood the concept, he wouldn't have said "d times v" as, for all possible definitions, d is not a variable. Yeah, nobody asked, me or him, but nobody asked you either. • @Mate_00
      @Mate_00 5 лет назад +50

      The thing is that sometimes it's defended by a "secret fact" that is completely made up but can't be disproved. Those I find funny.
      But sometimes it's just completely false. Like an argument about not factoring in the air resistance is great, he can say that there is for some reason a super high pressure there. But his argument required lower resistance. And since that guy's equation already considered 0 air resistance, there's nowhere lower you can get.
      So it's not about Conan knowing or not knowing he's wrong. We all know he knows he makes tons of mistakes. It's about how good his excuses are and in this case they are just bad. Sure, they can be fun and convincing for someone, but to people understanding that argument at all it's just rubbish.

    • @nilsboker1925
      @nilsboker1925 6 лет назад +129

      Brandon Mcdade Well, it does have a greater effect because as the person accelerates, the air resistance increases exponentially. This means, if the person only falls 4 inches, the air resistance cannot get nearly as high. However, if you take air resistance into account, the person would be falling slower which would just increase the time even more and make Conans result worse, so he definitely shouldn't have mentioned it if he was actually trying to make a real point, but as all of this is more of a joke, it doesnt really matter all that much anyways.

      I hope you’re just a troll but generally you would never see:
      sinx cosx tanx in one side of an equation for the simple fact that: sinx = cosx tanx
      Therefore, you can simply see that:
      sinx cosx tanx = sinx (sinx) = sin^(2)x
      And generally, there’s no reason for a mathematician or a physicist to over complicate an equation and use all those 3 terms multiplied by each other instead of just using sin^(2)x
      Again, I know this is probably a joke but I still gotta point out the fact that air resistance would actually slow the object down, meaning it’ll even increase the time needed to hit the ground, which would make the original answer off by a bigger product.

      John Dillinger
      Lol, I don't math quickly in my head and that is not what math classes teaches you. I can probably find many middle school students that can do arithmetic faster than I can. You most likely can do arithmetic calculations faster in your head than me. For computer scientists, we don't need to do fast arithmetic, but for your job, you do, and I respect that. Why can't you respect the need of other jobs? You are bashing on math by basically saying that college math is useless to a mcdonald worker, and therefore is useless to a physicist. Our economy is based on specialization and comparative advantage so that we, the workers, will operate more efficiency. This specialization is different depending on the task at hand. In your case, it isn't college education, but for many others, it is.
      P.S
      The original purpose of high school by the founding father is to educate the general public so that they will be an informed voter. The purpose isn't to apply the knowledge you gained but to beware of their existence.

    He did not set a freefall record because freefall is the state at which only gravity is a factor. But gravity was not the only factor. The friction of the air resistance also had a small effect on the fall. There are tiny particles floating around, interacting with each other everywhere, even space, making it impossible to be in a true state of freefall anywhere in this universe.

    It is true that if accounting for air resistance, an object's decent in freefall is slower rather than faster and thus Conan is still wrong because the air resistance at the studio would not be capable of speeding up freefall by a factor of 24. However! Stage 15 is not an area that under normal air pressure and resistance. We all know that producer Jordan Schlansky is not human; that much is obvious. For Jordan to work at Stage 15, accommodations had to be made for him to work for extended hours. Stage 15 is actually an enclosed system with high negative pressure and positive vortex systems causing a suction effect towards the center of earth's gravity (the ground) causing objects to fall 24 times the speed of normal earth-like freefall. This allows Jordan to work at Stage 15 for extended hours without slowly imploding, and causes major discomfort to everyone else.

      Yep, check the comments of the fan correction on the fighter jet. The person doing the correction is clearly not a plane spotter, and said that the plane (which was not a fighter jet) was a passenger plane, but was indeed a C17 (or C14), which is a cargo carrier. Technically a video hasn't been made but a fan of conan saw this error of the fan correction so the fan correction of the fan correction is in the form of a comment instead of a video.

    I'm sorry, but as far as I know, the "sine of the cosine of the tangent of z" is baloney, especially because, if lateral displacement is negligible, displacement projected onto the x vs z plane is only the Coriolis force, which is not very much for a 4-inch drop.

    2:55 Conan says "d times v divided by d times t". It's not 'd' TIMES 'v'. It's the first derivate of Velocity with respect to time, which gives us acceleration. And is spoken as "dv by dt". There's no "value" of 'd' to multiply. Come on Conan, a 10th grader could tell you that. Did you really go to Harvard or is that a scam?
