  • A look at my version of the low roman workbench I built out of construction 2X4's. This allows me to do my hand tool work indoors and I can sit comfortably while doing so. Inspired by Rex Kruger but with my own spin on it.

I need to build a small bench. Your video gives me some direction to the path I want to take. Thanks!

Thanks Bill. Hope you can learn from my mistakes. If you haven't seen it yet I highly recommend Rex Krueger's video. ruclips.net/video/7rOHuC_yuV4/видео.html

Hi. I'm about to move and may need to give up my current workbench so am looking at smaller alternatives. The legs on your bench don't appear to be splayed at all. Have you encountered any stability issues because of that? I do like the idea of an apron. And if you have a jack plane, I suggest you buy an extra iron, chamber it, open up the throat, and attack your bench top with that. I have a scrub plane, and it's the least used plane I've got. Nice job, sir.

Thanks John. I just recorded a follow up video, not posted yet, where I talk about the stability issues. Yes, stability is a signficant problem with this design and I definitely would do the legs differently.

This is a good design but a couple saw horses and a thick heavy "bench top" is a great small setup. Im working on a video using big heavy wood to make small micro work benches that are really just saw horses that you ca set a work bench top on.

Fantastic.👏 I’m also designing a variation of the low Roman bench. It’s great to find someone with a similar ambition. How’s the comfort when you sit on it?

I've had mine for over a year now and even though I have moved to a larger shop I still use it often. I find it very comfortable. I like the width of the bench for sitting but the base is too narrow and can get tippy. If I were to redesign it I would angle the legs more like Rex Kruger did in his video.

I'd love to see a picture when you get your bench done.
