Imagine dancing in an environment without observers, judgments, attitudes, talking, shoes, alcohol, or smoking. A space where everyone can feel spontaneously safe to try new things and push their edges. This is the dance you dance when nobody is watching.
Here is a little sneak peek into the world of ecstatic movements, freedom, unity, and unconditional love.

I experienced this at the last psy festival I went to, it was truly an amazing experience and changed my perception on dance and movement, my body was in sync to the music no effort was needed to dance my body felt free, I felt connected to everyone and everything around me a complete feeling of euphoria, I remember I didn’t want to leave the dance floor because I never wanted this experience to end, Many hours later I walked away from the floor with and abundance of energy and love inside of me, I will cherish that experience for the rest of my life

Isnt this what we did as children....until we were told to settle down...and then taught how to dance....we should have been free to twirl....it didnt need a cool name...we just twirled and swirved and our arms and legs went everywhere....we knew how to do without instruction.

Dance to me is poetry in motion. The perfect amalgamation of body, mind & soul to music, poetry & emotions. The whole body emotes through Dance. So what you’ve lived, what you feel, put it in the dance. That’s what dance is, expressing with your body what you feel and who you are.

Beautiful video. Sounds great in theory but is anyone else still thinking they can’t do it? The only moves I have are awkward glances and frozen muscles. I would never dump dirt on myself like that girl did. I’m not sure how I will express any other emotion than inhibition. 😢 Beautiful video but still feeling like a wallflower watching it.
Keen, the first time I did ecstatic dance I was feeling awkward and frozen as you said, but after many times I started to feel more free and less judged, it takes a while and you can get there ;)

I used to feel like this, now I dance like a madman and can feel fully connected to my body. Practice can certainly help you get there - check out 5Rhythms classes.
If you haven't embarked on this journey yet, please do yourself a favor and just go for it. You won't regret it.

The greedy organizer in St Petersburg FL recently handed the reins to a woman who "studied under (the infamous Teal Swan, a harmful cult leader)" The gatherings end up being a circle jerk of would be entrepreneurs attempting to lure you to their events as well. It's a "let me introduce you to this sucker I know so you can suck from them as well" sort of networking. If you are not ostensibly beautiful like the people in this video or don't wear the right clothes or drink their tonics or don't already have dance training, you are not welcome. No talking on the dance floor. You heard me. No "substance" use, children are clearly present when all this sexuality is being encouraged and on display. Ecstatic Dance will never see a penny from me, I'm able to smell shit a long way off.

I used to go to those types of festivals when I was younger. I'm 44 now and unfortunately can't be surrounded by too many people; I developed anxiety and social phobia, but I do that alone at the beach here in California 🙏.

Yes, it really is a beautiful film. AND very nice to put Oshos words there in the beginning. But Osho used dance to go into Meditation and what I missed in this film, even though it was indicated, were the movements from dance/together into silence /alone.It only becomes a form of Meditation when it can end in deep inner stillness. Extasy and Silence are the two keys in my mind that make Exttatic dance so powerful.LOve Pujan

Thanks for the feedback, the end part when the hand let go the last sandcore can be a metaphor for stillness, let go the conceps and idea of what would be and just be what is .. meditation for me as a dancer can be observed from the outside as a movement from the inside is a different story, i can be absolutely still in the core of my center and there is only me the witness, seeing body,.emotions and energy moving while me the awareness is absolutely still and connected

I used to love going to these in Brighton, UK in the 90's.. .. I'm chronically ill and disabled now, but I'll never forget the euphoria, the connections and the heart expanding experiences 🥰 all without drugs!

Great video. ED is done in different ways in different communities, but this spiritual/meditative/transcendent experience is what I like best. I studied with Gabrielle Roth many many years ago when she first started popularizing the term with her work and in her book Sweat Your Prayers. I understand this docu didn't talk about any of that, but it's worth noting that people don't just show up knowing how to do this kind of ED. Without any focus and training toward this specific intention and how to access it, what I've seen is ED communities evolve to simply become barefoot community dance that's kid friendly. That's a thing too, a valuable thing. But a different thing IMHO.
Thanks so much for your insights. I just started looking into Gabrielle Roth and the intentions behind ED that you're referring to, but I haven't been to an event yet. Are there any ways you've discovered of distinguishing an event/community that's centered around that intentionality/training from the barefoot community dance thing that you mention?

This reminds me of Dr Richard Moss MD. He had a spiritual awakening and he wrote a book back in the early '80's called Awakening to Higher Energies. I went to a workshop he gave back in 1983 in Western Mass.. Although he didn't focus on ecstatic dancing as intensely it was a part of the experience. The key is to let go in trusting your energy in intimate contact with another person or in a group, and maybe a synergy is a good description of what happens. Maybe that is what a marriage is supposed to be. LOL

Amazing. First time seeing something akin to Estatic Dance was when i watched Pluto Nash during the dance scenes in the club, i marveled how everybody danced with each other and just 'flowed'. Estatic Dance...Very wonderful to watch and even more amazing to be a part of.

In Latin culture dancing is just a way of life. They have city squares with people dancing. Here where I am in north america people are only dancing when they are drunk or looking to get laid. Latin culture they dance simply because they love to dance, if you dance with someone it doesn't mean you want to do anything sexual it is just to have a human connection and dance together. Finally I see exstatic dance here in the city I am in. I am going to do it as I love dancing. No speaking allowed just dancing, and if you want to converse you must step out at a breather area.
Such a great video and a pleasure... All ecstatic dances around the world should have this spirit and showcase this great fun. It's amazing to be able to be a part of this community and help create unforgettable physical and spiritual experiences

My path to Ecstatic Dance is from African dance, then 5Rhythms, Open Floor, Buto, Contact Improvisation, dancing free of steps with people/in social places.
Its line becoming liquid or air wind gentle breeze , its freedome and connected at the same time

This video makes it seem as though the only people who practice ecstatic dance are young and half naked.
That IS one of the shortcomings of this video being shot in Koh Phangan - where it is many young travelling backpackers. Edance is open to ALL ages, shapes, races, religions.

@@agproduction1588 yeah it wasn't just like the dancing like they added in some other beliefs about death and started doing rituals and rubbing dirt and "something else" in the cracks of the wood patio and it caused it to absorb water and their patio was going to fall too.
