Thanks for putting a spotlight on these resources. FYI the book you mention at 20:50 -- *Operating System Concepts* by Silberschatz, Galvin & Gagne -- is called "the Dinosaur Book" because every edition has featured dinosaurs on the cover.
I never wasted three years doing my bachelors degree in computer science it was wonderful and very practical as well so it was never a waste it’s just the fact that some degree that people choose tend to be a bit too easy especially American ones because they tend to choose lots of different modules which have nothing to do with computing whatsoever and quite often don’t have any practical elements
Yeah sometimes it's true.... But how we are supposed to pass the HR I mean the gatekeepers of a job without having a certificate, even though we have enough knowledge..... Please reply.....
@@inanomusic I'm a dropout and damn proud of it. I can smell HR bullshit from a mile away now after getting rejected many times and doing research on why. Now I do what I love and getting paid for it, and all you have to do is follow your passion and look wider, because there are plenty of opportunities and hidden jobs.
I’ve actually had this starred for a few years now. Started working on it and got stuck waiting for the next class to start. By the time it started I had forgotten all about it.
Wow, I wish this was around prior to me doing my comp sci degree. actual knowledge + projects, experience, github, HTB, enthusiasm > fancy expensive degree
Honestly, a lot of times free resources can be better than paid resources. It would be possible for anyone who knows how to find things to make an open-source cybersecurity degree. The problem being I wouldn't have enough passion to do it and maintain it. Since other than education, it will not be able to replace an actual degree.
It is already out there, take a look at tryhackme, hackthebox, or even Rangeforce. These resources will teach you fundamentals, You can also try port swigger's web academy for web pentesting.
@@zidanetribal2343 I think they were referring to an open-source cybersecurity degree. The ones you listed out are technically not open-source/free. Hackthebox is good for practicing pen-testing. But, the academy is limited/paid for. Tryhackme is limited in some regards such as premium rooms plus quality control. Rangeforce's community edition is pretty good and would fit in. Portswigger is also limited. A good education combines both practical and theory. So, if I was to pick out I would choose HackTheBox and Rangeforce Community Edtion. That you combine Red Team and Blue Team. With Rangeforce covering them both and HackTheBox giving you practice red teaming.
I am getting ready for ossu, going to start very soon and I plan to put it into my resume and I think it doesn't matter where did you got your degree, matters the curriculum, your attitude and what did you retain and understand from it, forgot to mention I plan to get myself into gamedev, so with a few games and ossu into resume and self assureness that you know what your are talking about, definetely you can get a very good high paid job with no doubt.
I think this is amazing and is full of great CS information. My only concern is most jobs hire you based on the piece of paper you got graduating college. I dont think OSSU is a viable resource you can put on your resume or people would put " I watched professor messer on RUclips but I didn't want to pay to take my security+ exam."
Definitely, however, if you are looking to level up or improve your understanding of core computing concepts this offers a you with a great opportunity to improve your skills.
Indeed, in Europe unless you have at least a Bachelor's and some important internships, they won't even look at your CV, nonetheless certain graduates get hired to do shallow soulless codemonkey jobs that suck out the little bit of passion and joy for a steady pay (which is 1500eur at best in Italy)
These are awesome resources thanks for sharing this. I agree with others in that I wish there was a cyber security version of this. Although a computer science one is nice, my real passion is cyber security and penetration testing.
how do you recommend for someone who wants to get into cybersecurity. the person knows how to use virtual machine. also is a intermediate in using kali linux ?
Brother i need your help i want to make my career in cyber security so i have just cleared 10th and i am very interested in cyber security i am still confused degree or certification which is best please brother help
I did my undergrad degree in biochemistry. I don't remember anything from Calculus II (besides that I wasn't good at it at all). Would I still be able to do this? Calculus is the only thing that prevents me from pursuing a degree in CS.
Can you please make a video on EC Council Certified SoC Analyst certification. Im trying to get into soc analyst position but need to know which soc certification to pursue that will help me build my skills up
Thank you so much for all the information the link to the excel file, please? I want to ask you about the CS50 course from Harvard so there's a lot of resources so where you can start and how you can choose the right one?
Hello Alexis , I'm searching for a stage work at a company , I don't want an income from them I just want to gain experience in cyber security , i'm studying networks and systems in the institute , any idea if I should go for cyber security first or just networking ?
Thanks for putting a spotlight on these resources.

Well said

I'll add INE also they have a very good curriculum for Penetration Testers which would eventually lead to the eJPT certification.

Absolutely, you now have the opportunity to approach the subject at your pace. Take it slow and setup a daily learning schedule.
