Your story about your first thrifting exposure reminded me of my story. My mom was friends with a wealthy ranching family especially the matriarch of the family. The woman gave my mom boxes that she had stored away. We opened the boxes and had so much fun trying on the clothing. My mom found some beautiful housewares and my older sister and I ended up with these beautiful authentic Chimayo jackets. I still have it in my closet and recently my sister gifted me with hers after her declutter. It was not thrifting but this just fueled my love for vintage and thrifting.

I started thrifting as a little girl with my aunt Pat. She would take me and my cousin to goodwill to buy baby clothes for our cabbage patch dolls. I remember the smell of the goodwill and digging in the bins. This was before they hung the baby clothes. I garage saled everything for my oldest son as I didn’t have a lot of disposable income and even after we became financially comfortable, I thrifted everything. My ex was in sales and I bought the most insane men’s labels for him. He was always the best dressed as were my kids. I think I will always be thrift obsessed. I will be visiting my friend Ted in LA soon and cannot wait to thrift. Any places that we MUST go to thrift? I’m sure there’s some places not on his radar ❤
Watching your videos has made me realize my misconception: I invest a lot in basics, because they are so versatile (at least, that’s what I thought). But I’ve got it all wrong: it’s the prints, patterns and structures that you can mix and match so much better! Thanks for the eye-opener (once again)! 🙏🏼❤
