BTW the song says "Better than a hallelujah... SOMETIMES". God's love and mercy are inclusive NOT exclusive! This is a beautiful song and if it touches ONE heart to turn to God (even if you are a mess) then praise the Lord!
It's true. Sometimes we bless God more when we are low in a valley. Psalms 23...... Being humble, messy, and very sad, outcast,.......He leaves 99 righteous sheep and goes to the astray.
You are truly right. This song is so beautiful. Sometimes our issues to God are better than a hallelujah. He's full God and full human so he knows a thing about suffering. God bless you! 🙂
thank you Amy Grant.... this was sang at my best friends funeral by her sister... so beautiful and true... then, 6 months later, the same sister sang it at their fathers funeral. I feel it was written for both my bf and her dad.... it applies in every single way.... thank you Jesus and Amy Grant!
My beautiful firstborn son was 32 years old when I lost him to COVID on January 4, 2022. I'm shattered. He once told me this song reminded him of me. I always liked Amy Grant but now I wonder if I was the brokenhearted drunkard crying out? Either way, I'm happy that I have this song and memories with my son, we expressed our love always. Please take the time to spend with your loved ones since you never know when life could go as you did not expect. I will see my baby again in Heaven so trying to stay thankful that God forgives and loves our melody!
This reminds me of My Great Aunt Faye, my dog named Daftey, and Mr. Jack Rose. They all passed away but all were very special to me. Maybe when I cryed God was happy.
okay this song means that some people arent afraid to prais when everything is going good but it is a lot harder to prais God when everything is going bad. But as christians we will have hard time, we dont have a perfect life because we are christians, our life is perfect because we always have someone who loves us and died for us. Jesus Christ.
The line of "We pour out our miseries, God just hears a melody line", is referring to how God loves it when we turn our troubles over to Him and allow him to help us instead of struggling through the best we can and going through the motions more or less in our relationships with him. It doesn't mean He likes our sufferings but the melody is like its like music to Him when we let Him work in us like how things are supposed to go
daniel hernandez The song literally just means that God prefers to hear our truths. There are days that my heart is so broken that if I say "Alleluia," I won't mean it in my heart. Yes, God is highest and deserves our praise always. But my saying "Alleluia" doesn't mean I FEEL that praise. He prefers to hear our honest broken heart more than a dishonest "Alleluia." I understand what you're trying to say, and respect it. Praise God no matter what. And eventually, after I pour my heart out, I get to where I honestly can. However, before we get there, we need to work with God with what's actually in our hearts.
We are not higher than God, so He does not prefer yes, does not prefer to hear our honest broken heart more than disonest Alleluya, we are not walking by feeling, we walk by faith. Psalm say that he save us for the love of His Name. Theology that sing is wrong even if the song it sounds pretty. This comment is not to hurt you, it's to acknowledge that the Truth is the truth and we can not change it.
+daniel hernandez ***God is happy to give up one hallelujah (SOMETIMES) for a sinner's prayer to save their soul!! Please try not to be so judgmental and self-righteous which can scare and turn new Christians away. There was only ONE perfect person that walked this earth and wasn't me or you.
Luke 15:7 - I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
Hymnalysis x No, the song is saying that the honest cries of our breaking hearts and messy lives, which cry to Him as prayers, are sometimes better than just praise. He deserves our praise, but He also deserves our honest broken feelings. He knows it all, anyway, but He wants us to be honest about it.
How can we believe that God enjoys the sounds of our miseries? I don't believe that! Especially not more than praising him. The melody of this song is great...but I totally disagree with with the lyrics. Feel free to message me what is trying to be portrayed here.
It means God loves REAL prayers (sometimes desperate pleas) from an HONEST heart even if we are not perfect!! The drunkard crying out looking for direction, the dying person finally turning to Jesus, the broken hearted needing comfort... those people's prayers are just as important to God....
Romans 10:9-10 says we must accept it in our heart and declare it with our mouth. That is an action. Actions must have motive and they have results. A Christ based motive has the results of spreading love not slander and hate. Pray for this young man to truly find Jesus and be transformed rather then conformed. As 1 Corinthians 1:18 says "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God".
I love this song...And I must admit...Hallelujah is the highest praise...However, being humble enough to cry out to God for help is better than a Hallelujah...For man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart... Thank You Jesus for placing this song into my life...For having a personal relationship with you is definitely "better than a Hallelujah"...
@@dontcomeforme6387 I hope I'm not too late on this. For longest time in my life I didn't understand the meaning of this song all because I thought the same thing: what could be better than a hallelujah? It wasn't until I realized how deep this song was all from revelation of the depth of God's love. God doesn't deliberately seek praise... it's nice, but what he's truly after is your heart and your sincerity. He wants the bruised and broken, the weak and weary, even the sinners no matter how shameful or hard the trial we are going through. It's like the parable of the two men who went to a synagogue. The first one goes on to pray, thanking God that he is not like the other man, a "sinner". When really that man kneels down and exposes his sinfulness to God and asks for forgiveness. I wish I could cite the scripture, but I hope more that I was clear enough. God bless! 😊
My prays go to all that have lost or wounded person's this week from shooting, car, wreck, OD, suicide, suicide, bombs and hateful words. Just know somebody loves you dearly.
Wow, You have no thought of god being your father do you? I bet he Loves you but you can't seem to suck it up and love him back. GOD MADE YOU (With your mom and dads help) You should thank him. Not like toss him aside like a old muffin....
@Bubbagump339 A Bible isn't any good w/o understanding.A song can move you but it still not be truth. You need to pray for a friend you can share & learn with. The Bible says wherever 2 or more are gathered He's there. You don't have to go to church because if you know Jesus you are the church. But alone you can more easily be deceived.Even preachers can fall if they have no one they can share with.God designed us as aJesus' body.We need each other.
ok, not to be disrespectful or anything, but im confused, a DRUNKARD'S cry? isn't that like an alcoholic? does it have two meanings or did u just get the wrong word?
My friends, obviously young Zach is very lost as a young Christian or not a believer at all. If he claims to be one then he like many sitting in the pews today are sorely mistaken of their salvation. His Words do not reflect Christ and his attitude is not one that shows He knows Jesus at all. Fruits are the produce of what our actions manifest. Fruits of the Holy Spirit bear witness to our seal of salvation. The words "I believe in Jesus" are nothing.
Who else can't help but so cry as they are singing along to this breath taking song?
LOVE this song! i am a total christian, and this is my fav song!

Does this mean God enjoys our suffering???
There is nothing better than alleluia ( meaning of alleluia is Glory to God in the highest ) "this song is wrong even if his song sounds great"

daniel hernandez So God would prefer glory to Him, then a sinner pouring out their heart to Him?

Put any name besides God's in place of God in this song, and all y'all would be super revolted at someone for delighting in the suffering of others.
