As a young lad of 15 when I first heard this album, this song was always my hidden favorite. I only had a bootleg cassette of Defenders... and had no access to the lyrics (no internet in those days!). Now, as an English teacher, I'm even more struck by the intensity and eloquence of the story telling. That, coupled with the power-surging riffs that I can more greatly appreciate now that I play guitar, gives me a new found respect and appreciation for this song. I imagine back when this song came out, scholars would dismiss the lyricism as trite or quaint. But compared to today's songs, this is f--king Shakespeare!
This is in my opinion the best song of Judas fucking Priest. I mean it's got the vocals, the solos. It is epic and legendary. Love it. Fucking Heavy Metal.
There has been actual songs that have done that, added a sequal story in the song, the devil went down to georgia is one of those songs that does that.
My favorite Metal band. Their songs are still great after all these years. Defenders of the Faith is an awesome great album but unleashed in the East i think is my favorite.
Remember when this came out it was the first time they named Glenn and KK by solo parts. I couldn`t really get why they did that, if you know priest it is so godamn easy to nmotice them by their tone mand style. This was the best tour I ever saw them on. They were always good but this tour`s show was sick!! They opened with "Love Bites" it feels like yesterday dude. \m/
My all time favourite song by JP, showing the bands quality, capacity at their top and also feels wery much as a represental song for JP. The song also show the wide capacity of Halfords voice and singing wery well.
KK and Glenn at their finest... :-) Maybe best metal album of the 80's? I can't think of anything in my collection that tops it, for sure. And lucky for me, I got to see them on the Defenders Of The Faith tour (with Great White as the opener) and damn, they were good!
Thanks for posting. I grew up with Priest. I remember playing this on vinyl, & British Steel before it. One of my favorite concerts was seeing Priest in 2010, the 30th anniversary of the release of British Steel. They came out & played the whole album ... it was just like dropping the needle back in high school & listening to it all the way through. Then they played all their hits. Then Iron Maiden played. I mean seriously, it's hard to get better than that. :-)
Nice ripping Priest productions here! Simple without distracting flash is nearly always the best way to go. But you still want clear lyrics and great sound. You got all of that back from 2012!! Well done!
When I first heard Judas Priest didn't know English well and lyrics were hard to find. All was on cassettes from friends. The music was not even pirated because it was communism and it was not sold anywhere. Now when I read the lyrics years later I rediscover Judas in an awesome new way. Rob is truly the mightest metal god !!! :)
i have been a die hard fan OF JP since they first came to the shores of America...and of ALL of their Albums/CD's Defenders of the Faith is by far their BEST to date... many have come close but none have achieved the sound and the fury that Defenders!!!
Every time I play this for someone... I know they’re missing the greatness of this one particular line; it never registers on first listen. Rewind... Sing that! lol
A loss of a loved one ..not by an enemy blade but by time. until now others I lost go by unbeknownst for the world was not in my face ...This time will not be as the others.
Fun Fact!: Undead Labs used these lyrics "Upon the sign the challengers, With shrieks and cries rush forth." as the description for the heavy melee available only in the Breakdown DLC for State of Decay called the Microphone Stand. Learn something new everyday.
why knives??? reusable weapon source. never run out of ammo, very little noise, and multiple uses. simply use and retrieve... if ur a bad-ass, impervious to pain sentinel, no worries.
Amazing Gamer3976 I used to have Sad Wings of Destiny on CD and my mom saw the name "Judas Priest" and assumed it was Christian music. She said it terrified her lmao
I will always regret that this song wasn't longer (yes, even at five minutes, it's too short for me); it needs some additional lyrics, and I've actually written some of my own. I'll also always regret that they chose to use mediocre Prince music in Tim Burton's BATMAN instead of this song, which is perfect for the "urban Gothic" look of the movie, especially the lyrics! (They also could have used "Night Comes Down" instead of "Scandalous," which sounds like '80s prom music and not something for a dark superhero film.) Ironically, Priest apparently were inspired to write this song by the musical WEST SIDE STORY; I'm sorry, but I just don't see it.
Tox, that's what I'd always thought, but it makes more sense this way. He is sworn to avenge, and condemn. A nasty futuristic being with supernatural power.
Best metal lyrics ever.
"Tempt not the blade all fear the Sentinel!!!"
This is definitely in my top 10 Priest songs. It just rocks so fuckin' hard!
Tempt not the blade all fear the Draculaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Vlad Tepes scariest song! 😱
Top 10? more like top 3
Pure metal, how it should be.

Christopher Hernandez The violence just explodes out of the song giving the listener the feeling of pure vengeance.
Yes it s damn great and it made the the eighties. Though some bands dared to cover it with love and respect. Try the Heavens Gates version.
I am the sentinel... Well, a sentinel. Insomnia helps
What, you egg?
This is in my opinion the best song of Judas fucking Priest. I mean it's got the vocals, the solos. It is epic and legendary. Love it. Fucking Heavy Metal.

Damnit, I didn't want the story to end

There has been actual songs that have done that, added a sequal story in the song, the devil went down to georgia is one of those songs that does that.
I saw a comment from some other video of this song, that says this is part of a story where it starts with Electric Eye and ends with Painkiller
One of Priests best songs, a real masterpiece, great lyrics, complex songwriting, very intense dynamic!! Hail to the Priest forever
My favorite Metal band. Their songs are still great after all these years. Defenders of the Faith is an awesome great album but unleashed in the East i think is my favorite.
*HE'S IMMORTAL! UNKILLABLE! UNMATCHED!*
Epic! The back and forth solo trade offs Glenn and KK do on this song is mind blowing!
Agree cause K. K. Motherfucking Downing is the man 🤘🎸

@@stever7627 praise the rocket boosted knuckle, the sword and the disgustingly fabulous mullet
I never cared for hard rock or heavy metal music as a rule but this one song is the exception to that rule. 👍👍
what do you listen to?
I can't sing remotely like Halford... But godDAMMIT, this songs makes me try it...
Awesome!

Judas priest is the best hevy metal musik in the world
as of right now this song is winning 150 - 0. and by the way its gr8
judas priest reminds me of mad max sometimes with the lyrics, like leather rebel, "amongst the burnt out cars" "rows of throwing knives"
Got my bell rung at 02:10 🛎 🤪
Most metal song of the 80s !!!?
"Him with that falchion in his hand behold,
Who comes before the three, even as their lord."
Inferno; Canto IV; The Divine Comedy DANTE

Someone desperately needs to make an anime vid for this.

Does anyone else think Ghost Rider? "Sworn to avenge, condemn to hell"
His hand was forced
Isn't it condemnED to hell?
Tox, that's what I'd always thought, but it makes more sense this way. He is sworn to avenge, and condemn. A nasty futuristic being with supernatural power.
I respectfully disagree Wayne. He/it is so remorseless that it's condemned to hell. Lol. Hey....tomato-tamato....it's awesome either way. 😁🤘
@@tox1017 song rocks though. Also the Rage is amazing. Blessings!
It's condemned to hell, otherwise it would say swear to avenge not sworn to avenge. Past tense on both. But who cares, song fkn rocks like a mofo!
the song should have played on Lord of the Rings
...
A small part of Iron Man !
,
Rob Halford read the Bible.
