  • Freediving Cape Town - Sandy Cove - Welcome To Cape Town, South Africa
    Some background on video. The dives in this video were taken around Feb 2012, and they were my first few dives in Cape Town. I followed a scuba map of the dive area from the surface, periodically diving down to see where I was. I managed for find most of the points of interest through some perseverance.
    I found 2 anchors of the "Het Huis te Kraaiestein" wreck.. A wreck 300 years old. Its quiet a trip back in time, and its great to see these traces of South Africa's early beginnings. I also found the canon of the ship lodged in some kelp, however its not included in this video - expect an updated video in 2013 more footage.
    In the video you can also see great schools of fish, and also vast amounts of urchins and soft corals lining the rocks, open sandy bottoms and beautiful swaying kelp forests. It's a beautiful eco-system. It forms part of 'Table mountain national park" a marine reserve. This means no fishing of any kind, even spear fishing.
    As a result Sandy Cove, and its neighboring dive site 'Justin's Caves' are my personal favorite places to dive. Please enjoy the new 1080p version of this video and feel free to comment or any any questions
    And if you haven't seen in go and watch my 'Justin's Caves' video its even better than this one: • Freediving Cape Town- ...

    I think its extremely cool to see such young guys getting into the sport. I think we need more young people in the community. Anyway, I don't see a problem. I just recommend you ask your coach some advice for getting a pair of suitable fins for somebody your age/height/strength etc.

    Hi there adventure maniac, good to hear from you again. Yes, im from South Africa, but I am living in Taiwan now, been here 4 years. In 2013 I plan to do atleast 2-3 high quality videos, 1 in South africa, 1 in Taiwan,and atleast 1 more oversea's asian dive site. For my next dive trip I'm looking to go to Ishigaki - I got a feeling it might be an excellent however relatively unknown place to freedive. I want to exlpore all the islands in Okinawa eventually!

    Hey man thanks for the comment. Actually my parents are in South Africa, and my Job in Taiwan - so i get to dive in these 2 countries a bit - Taiwan is close to Japan, so I once took a short holiday there to dive. It's expensive though - in Taiwan, I need to fly domestically in Taiwan to reach a nearby island to dive. This year will be going back to Japan to feedive with Manta rays, so stay tuned!

    I'm using a billabong 5/4/3mm for cold water, and a 3/2mm for warm water. I use around 4kgs of weight for the cold water suit and 2kgs for the warm water suit. Of course, I further adjust the weight depending on how deep ill be diving (add a kg for shallow dives, loose a kg for deeper dives)

    Hey man. There is some information about this video in the description. This is Cape Town, South Africa. This is taken in February (summer time) water temperature was 8 degrees. I never use 7mm. 5mm with hood, boots gloves is fine for me. Most divers in Cape Town are using 5mm. If you enjoyed this video, check out the Justin's Caves and The Pinnacle videos (links in description) . Both are right next to this dive site, within swimming distance

    Great Videos! Thank you, I have learned a lot just watching.
    Could you answer my questions please?
    Questions:
    1. Is this Green Island in Taiwan?
    2. What months did you go there and what was the water temperature?
    3. What temp. do you start using 7mm?
    Regards

    Hey man, thanks for the comment. I have tried a red filter before. Red filters are great at a depth of 6m-14m where they do a good job of replacing the lost red... but 0m-5m the image it too red.. and beyond 16m, where is totally no red light, the red filter turns the image dark. I know. If there is anyway to boost the red and contrast digitally using my pc afterwards, just in the areas of video that need it, I think that could definitely be an option.

    Wow, very good freediving skills. You can get a liitle more of your footage with a red filter and some colour correction and contrast. Best regards

    Pukalele, thanks for that positive comment. More coming in 2013, so if you want to check out the new vids subscribe, expect to see some Japanese WW2 wrecks on my channel before the end of the year. And if you have any questions about diving, just get in touch on fb!

    Yes, you're right. I made the same experience. Especially when you have divebuddies who don't wear a surfshirt, wetsuit etc - the skincolour looks too red in shallow water. But if they do, in my opinion a red filter is useable in shallow water. But when it comes to colours or colous correction it's a matter of personal taste.
    Best regards

    Still looks good dude. I guess your home town is in S Africa? I gotta check that out one day. I'm just trying to figure out how to turn your dive videos into my screen saver. :p You gonna try other Asian sites for freediving besides Taiwan, Yonaguni? I heard Indonesia is amazing.

    hey man never really free dove before or have experience with diving at all. but your videos are so cool to watch and I wanna try it this summer, how do you get the opportunities to travel around the world and dive?

  • @pato6110
    @pato6110 11 лет назад

    I think my questions got posted to the wrong video because the last video was over. Anyway, thank you for the quick answer.
    You mentioned boots. Do you get your fins in a bigger size to wear boots with them? If yes, do you have summer and winter fins so you can wear one pair without boots?
    Sorry, for all the questions. I just started and came back from a 10 day trip to Okinawa + realized that I need a lot more gear. The only problem is, that I keep buying the wrong stuff.

  • @freediverhd
    @freediverhd  11 лет назад

    Which video did you question refer to? Buy boots I mean flipper socks. 2mm neoprene socks in my case. I can wear my fins with or without them.
