I've had to deal with 2 missing packages in the last month or so. Both times I filled out the online form and the package magically showed up within 2 days.

In response to the lost package, in the last week there has been a huge number of my shipments that are late, missing tracking and so on. On the ones that are updating there are 3-4 day gaps in the tracking and when they do update they are only about 40 miles from where I shipped them at the distribution center. The answer to all buyers asking about their package in the current situation is Covid-19.... A lot of of USPS and FEDEX are short staffed with people out sick or afraid they will get the virus. You have to tell them it is to be expected. I am blunt about it and all my customers don't question it after that.

Yeah I found being blunt is working well so far. It is only going to get a lot worse and people don't understand the logistics of sending an item from one place to another.
I used to work for FedEx and all missing or unclaimed items end up in another department per say. Once they get that email an associate will go to those items and try to match it up. Once the package is identified they put a scan on it and move it along. Hope that helps

None of my first class packages have been arriving on time. I mailed one on April 23 and it was finally delivered after 19 days on May 12. It sat in a distribution center in Sacramento for 13 days.
Tracking said it was "on the way to next destination". Finally on May 11 it departed Sacramento and was finally delivered the next day only 60 miles away! Thankfully the buyer didn't ask about it. If they had I would have sent them a link to the tracking to prove i had shipped it, filed a claim with USPS, and asked them to be patient.
I have a 60 lb order sitting in NY for 10 days now. Ordered it on 04/21.
I’m looking forward to the next knife drop. Go figure, on the night of the final drop, a tree that was damaged in the Hammond storm fell and blocked the street - I had to move it out of the way - so I missed out. Priorities. Lol. Thanks as always, Lonnie, for imparting your knowledge upon us.
Information from the post office that eBay doesn't tell us. I will not ship Media Mail to New York City until this mess is over. They are holding all Media Mail in Jersey City sorting station and not delivering to New York. They are only delivering First Class or better and that is being told me by my post office. Secondly I have cancelled all international shipping. The planes aren't flying and cargo is piling up assorted airports. I have one to England right now that's being held up in Madison WI for Covid reasons and no planes to carry the package. Post office told me to not ship international until this was over. I'm tired of issuing refunds for stuff I never get back so won't ship overseas until things are somewhat back to normal.

I have used several different types of tape guns and my favorite is, hands down, the U-Line one. For whatever reason, it cuts tape better than any other I've used.

I’m getting this lack of updates on usps daily now. Media mail is unbelievably slow and not updating. Shipped out 22 media mail items the last week and 7 haven’t updated since the original scan.

USPS especially has been really bad lately, not sure if it’s just my area or in general, but just today someone finally found my package that sat at my origin facility for literally 2 weeks! Arrived may 1st departed May 14th

Ugh...lost mail. With the Pandemic, the USPS has slowed way down. I sell Vintage on Etsy and occasionally Ebay. I do find that once I submit "Missing Mail" claims, it jump starts that package to move within the system. I recently shipped 3 boxes at the same, the box going the furthest made it there first and the box going closest to me, went into a black hole...never got scanned into the USPS system. The 3rd box stalled out in the Chicago area. End of mystery...filed claims on 2 boxes and suddenly they were delivered within 2 days of the claims. I've heard that the USPS is down 40 Truck Drivers right now.
Sadly the USPS apparently doesn't use it's own Tracking System either. I mailed a box to my Nephew in CO...much needed homemade Face Masks for him & his co-workers. The box stalled out right here at my local PO. The staff there was of no help. I filed a claim and it took another 9 days before the box was delivered. This was early April. Last week I got a email from the USPS telling me that they still can't locate my missing box. Yes, that same box that they delivered 2+ weeks after I mailed it Priority.
Had to do this last week. The package was sitting without a scan for over 2 weeks. I submitted the form and it appeared somehow and was delivered in 2 days. Matt

I had this problem once before but luckily it hasn't happened since. I ordered two Final fantasy games for the NES and they never showed up. But it wasn't the sellers fault though. But I was able to get my money back

For USPS, you have to fill out that form if your shipment is stuck somewhere. I had this happened to me twice where I had to open a ticket with the USPS. Usually within a day or two, the package will start moving again. Sucks but at least they were able to get it going again.
Hey Lonnie, I discovered something cool on the bulk shipping section on ebay. The Pick list. Have you ever tried it? It's awesome when You have more than a couple things to pick.
A lot of packages have been taking a lot longer to deliver from USPS from eBay due to covid19. I mailed a poster that took 4 weeks to get to the destination.

No lost packages, buying or selling, thru USPS. But I’ve had a First Class package take 9 days to get from PA to SC. Also had a Priority package take 5 days...INTERSTATE. eBay seller was 70 miles from me. Took a full 5 days after initial scan at USPS. I’ve also had a few Priority packages take a full 2 days to get out of my county (usually gone in less than 24 hours). I’ve started places disclaimers on my eBay listings that buyers should know that expected delivery dates are rarely made these days.
I have had it happen to 3 item. Filled out the forms and 2 have been delivered...finally.
I've had 3 packages in the past couple weeks go missing. One never got scanned in at the post office. One was tracked tracked to the city's main station that it then leaves to another state from. The third made it to within 100 miles of the destination and then disappeared. The USPS hasn't been very helpful. The one that went missing at the local post office, they sent the find the mail to the destination post office. And then they considered it done basically saying it hadn't even been dropped off yet at the origination post office. The Second the USPS called me 3 days later and told me I should submit a missing mail claim, if it wasn't too late. (Which to me makes no sense for me to have to elevate the issue. They should be doing that already. But I did submit a missing mail form and now I'm waiting to see if they ever find it.) The last has only been 4 days missing and the buyer hasn't said anything yet. I'm hoping it shows up or is already delivered without a scan. I tried submitting a find mail form, but the site wasn't accepting it for some reason. I'll try again in a couple days. This seems like a rash of issues lately. I've refunded the first two. Hoping I don't need to refund the third.

Well i live in europe, shiped some headphones in the beggining of April, they got to Chigago usps facility on the 27th, still no update on the tracking site, buyer was tired of waiting, open case, ebay give him reason as always of course , they took my money and closed the case.Probably in a few days the buyer gets the headphones, free headphones , how nice :(
I can't ask usps, i didn't pay the shipment to them, i payed my national post office, that did their job and dilivered to usps.
Buyer didn't even bothered to talk to them with the tracking number for any information.
The U-line 3M H180 is the best tape gun I've used, the H-150 is much less expensive but still very good.
andrea bradley the H180 sku is a moving cart. Can you double check that sku of your favorite tape gun?

Hi Lonnie kind of a long question. I recently had a package arrived damaged to the customer. I accept 30 day returns but the buyer pays return shipping. The buyer is wanting to return it but me pay the return shipping and he says eBay will force me to. When I received the return request it asked to provide a label but I received an email saying the buyer has until a a certain date to pay return shipping and return it. I’m so confused thank you for your help!!
Yeah I just had one that was 10 beyond the guaranteed delivery date. All my orders have been taking longer especially the USPS ones

My usps package hasn't been delivered after 13 days and i even used priority shipping
I had a buyer message me after he bought a magazine off of me. He was asking what the postal situation was for the state of Illinois, as that is where I am from. Said he had 2 orders that he was still waiting on from other sellers that has been longer than 7 days. I check some of my transactions and seen that mine have been scanned delivered to many areas, including one to the state right above him. Told him, if it was Chicago area, maybe they are having more issues due to higher number of the pandemic, but for me, I currently was not having issues, and that I would keep tabs on the package just to make sure there was no hiccups.
Also, for Ebay sellers, there is a small discount for purchasing labels through Ebay rather than at the Post Office. Also, when you hit Top Rated and also have Top Rated Plus status on your Ebay account, you get a bit more of a discount, so for me, I just add that as profit to offset my fees and materials. Only time I do a refund on shipping is multi item orders where they don't combine shipping before the purchase, but I do to save the extra label and box.
I have a question. I get customers that occasionally ask me what the shipping cost would be to a particular country (Canada, Nigeria, etc.) I normally just use the GSP. How do find what that shipping might cost so I can inform the customer?
For that 2nd question i would definitely say don't put cash in the package. If you wanna refund shipping do it thru the ebay/payment app.

Hey Lonnie, just throwing out a suggestion for you. Now that your aisles are open now, maybe you could use some type of rolling cart or table to put your orders on when pulling them to help you out when videoing.
I do check all my package tracking numbers that do not say delivered. One item last year was not delivered and i checked the tracking and it said item undeliverable and it was still at the Post Office in that town, so i copied the tracking and wrote to the buyer and told her it was still at her post office and perhaps she should call or go get the item. She did end up going after it and wrote me and thanked me for letting her know. One other time, a buyer in France bought a Sonneman Kovacs Bankers Desk Lamp from me and 3 weeks later he wrote and wanted to know if it was on its way. I told him to please wait one more week because it usually takes a month to get to another country in Europe. He waited and it showed up as i said. he was happy and so was i. lol.
Are usps first class packages insured? I sent a first class package across to New York 15+ days later nothing. Not moving or being scanned
What are your thoughts on enabling combined shipping in eBay? Any caveats? Is there anyway the seller could get screwed?
Shipped out a priority package and it just got delivered 2 weeks later with no tracking update for over a week.

I've been lucky with lost packages. It's happened 3 times, but each time USPS found it and delivered the next day after I opened a case.

My package is not moving for 1 month nwo, it says enroute to DHL e-commerce.. Aug 19 is the last update, the estimated delivery date is September 20, don't know what to do
Any order that has a tracking number should be provided to a buyer as a matter of course I feel. As a buyer, I would certainly want to see the tracking. Is that not standard procedure on eBay?

I believe quite a few of eBay sellers and the like deliberately scam their customers on the postage and packaging costs and I know one personally who brags about what she makes in a year with not refunding overcharged postage. She said if she finds out she could ship it for, lets say, $8 less she'll wait for the customer to say something and in some cases she'll increase the true costs and ship it hoping the customer doesn't check the label. I believe it should given back as honesty is always the best policy.....
Got a message asking about a first class item I shipped 10 days prior ( 1966 Fantastic Four comic ) Package was stuck in transit, next city over. I apologized for the delay in shipping and have never experienced an issue with USPS & Opted for updates on package via texts from USPS. I explained they are really busy during this Event... Next day, 2 more messages from buyer... I issued a full Refund. ONE hour later after refund, USPS updates with movement of item...WTF! Lol. Shipped April 27th recieved May 9th

Silly question- Those who comment "1st" "2nd".. what is the significance? Usually most of the time they say they are 1st and could be further down the listing in the order of comments. Plus, If they are posting within a min of the premiere of the vid..means they are just commenting without actually watching the comment. This is a 19 min video...1st comment should not be made until at least 19 mins after clip airs. Is there a special incentive or prize they are getting just for saying 1st?
Lonnie- How many hours per day do you work on your ebay? I mean it probably is 24/7...but Do you have a set time where you will stop every day? or it just depends on the volume and how busy the day is??

One of 3 items i shipped get lost. When i checked the tracking numbers it still shows shipped but no delivery. i contacted the buyers 2 said they received but one said no received. i told her if she want the money back ill give the refund. she said yes. i contacted ebay and they told me the best thing to do is refund it. and open a claim with the usps. The thing is that it still shows waiting for scanned and the buyer can says no receive yet and get the refund plus keep the item. but the buyer always wins. just refund the money to the buyer doesn't let a negative feedback
I'm up to 8 international orders "lost" because of coronavirus, it's pretty frustrating for both sides. Having problems with Ireland, Germany, Italy and Chile. Both first class and priority.

That's exactly what happened to me....Buyer didn't receive an item, I did a package search through USPS & it reappeared the next day....go figure 🙄
For a seller aspect I usually will have the buyer confirm the address from the order was correct. 9 out of 10 times this is the issue and then I just refund the buyer. First class mail takes 2-3 months before it finally comes back to me.
I ordered a collection off ebay (5 boxes) on 04/21, the seller didn't ship till 04/28 ughh. The first package of 2 boxes arrived on 04/30 but the other package of 3 boxes has been stuck in transit in NY since 05/03. I contacted the seller on 05/05 and 05/08 with no response so I finally opened a case on 05/12. They finally responded and said they are waiting to hear back from usps. I did at least mention if by 05/16 (ebays policy for case) it doesn't arrive I would like my 3/5th of the price paid returned. If it arrives later on I would be happy to send the funds back to the seller. Biggest thing for buyers is to keep track of the ebay policy. You have to notify the seller within 30 days of the expected delivery date if the item hasn't been received.
I’ve filed a couple damage claims for Priority Mail Shipments since the virus started. And they no longer seem to be paying out, they instead send me a letter telling me to take the damaged item to my post office. Since I’d have to pay to have the buyer ship the item back to me it’s just not worth it. Has anyone else been getting these letters instead of a check? I ship mostly fragile items, so sometimes there’s damage no matter how well I pack them.
If you have made many claims, this may be why, though I don;t really know. I would just make sure all priority packages are insured high enough to cover the item and both ways on the shipping. Then when you file a claim, ask to be refunded for the shipping costs plus the item cost. Just write down the cost of the broken item as whatever the total of all shipping and item value added together. I would not mention to the postal workers that you are adding them all together.
Submitting photo evidence SHOULD be enough, but if they want to see the item, they should have to pay for it, rather then us having to spend another 8+ dollars to get our money back.

I had issues with USPS not scanning packages so I started dropping them off (used to schedule pickups) at the post office and requesting a receipt. Once the tracking number shows "In Transit" there is nothing more you as a seller can do but advise the buyer to check their local post office or go to the USPS website and request updates via text or email. USPS can only look up the tracking number and tell you what the system is telling you. You as the seller are covered with the receipt showing you have shipped and the tracking number is showing in transit.
Covered with who? eBay wants a delivery scan.
@@shedflips If the buyer complains they have not received their item, ebay is more understanding to the seller because they can clearly see the item is in transit. Not that the issue is resolved but you have done your part.
I've been having of them more scanned in as well, it sucks. But I'm hoping to head off some of the many issues with no tracking in the first 2-3 days now.
That’s not true. You as the seller are responsible the item gets delivered regardless if usps loses it.

I'm the same can take up to 15 days to get from Scotland to London, lucky I sent my signed or with tracking cause people are been fly n saying it's not arrived but then I have proof 😂
As far as money over the shipping, i will refund the money only if the buyer asks me for it. Usually i do not refund because every so often, i, myself, will pay extra over what the buyer sent for shipping, so it kind of balances out for me.
Hey Lonnie, quick question: If you had a T-Shirt listed on eBay and a buyer buys and receives the item and then messages you that the shirt is the wrong size. You then look and see that you mis-typed the size in exactly one area of the listing but the photos show the tag being what it was. Is the seller at fault or the buyer?
I would still say it's the seller's responsibility. There's a chance that the buyer did not look at the photos when they purchased the shirt. I've experienced many times when the seller asked me for a return because they did not take the time to read the description and/or the photos.

Can you/Do you list the same item on your different stores? Let's say you have 100 units of one item. Can you list 50 for sale (one listing) on your meanpc store and 50 on your garage flips store? You would use a similar title/same description/same photos (except for the main one maybe).

I have nightmares about doing this. Never done it but I do second-guess myself when I send out many parcels in one day.
I had a buyer claim that they never received the package even though tracking showed it was delivered. Ebay sided with me and did not refund the buyer at all. I felt pretty bad about it and was contemplating sending a refund of some sort, but then the buyer starting yelling at me in all caps through eBay messaging. What would you do?
Yeah after the case is closed, you can offer to work with them and open a missing package request with USPS -- but IMO you need to be willing to see that process through and if it doesn't turn up, be open to offering some form of refund at the end. If they're yelling, threatening, cursing, I doubt I would do any of that though, probably just report the communication to eBay and add them to my blocked bidder list.

Question on selling lower value video games. If a video goes for $15, why not just offer free shipping and bump up the price to let’s say $17.99. Wouldn’t you think a buyer would choose “Free shipping” listing over a listing that charges $4.00 shipping? Thanks
It's a game of psychology right? Sometimes I feel like that lower item price may suck them in, then shipping gets tacked on top. Just depends on your preference.
This doesn't apply to individual video games, but I do not offer free shipping as the weight goes up into Priority class, I do calculated and let them pay something reasonably fair -- that way I don't have to set a high built in shipping cost that penalizes my Zone 1-5 customers, and on the other side of the coin I don't get screwed over when I didn't set the price high and Zone 6-7 inevitably orders that 6 lb "free shipping" item. The disparity between those particular Zones seems out of whack and will bite a seller hard if they aren't aware. I also think buyers in general need to be aware that shipping isn't free and to have some idea of what a return is going to cost them. Just my choice, some people have free return shipping built into their business model and more power to 'em.
COVID-19 is causing a lot of hiccups in the mail system at the moment. I've spoken with USPS at length about this. On the occasion that it does happen, just inform your customers to be patient. The post office is really spread thin at the moment and the number of packages has greatly increased. It will get there, but it will likely take 1-2 extra days. Sometimes up to a week before it arrives. But there's nothing you can do about it, other than use UPS/FedEx/USPS Priority Mail.
ALSO, if it shows as "Delivered" that's a whole other matter, as the seller has fulfilled their end of the deal. Had a customer open a case against me but it was resolved in my favor as it was delivered.
Yes, had that happen recently too. eBay will side with the seller if the buyer files an INR on a scanned 'delivered' item.
For new sellers reading this, if the buyer's being aggressive and/or you think they're a scammer, you especially want them to file an INR case in the 'delivered but I didn't receive it' situation, by doing so they are locking themselves out from leaving feedback. When they open the case, be proactive and contact eBay ASAP (don't wait the 3-4 days for the case to close on its own and give eBay a chance to screw you over), send them the tracking number, tell them you have a delivered scan, and ask if we can get this closed. I've been 100% successful with that approach.
The buyer has no recourse through eBay at that point. I will of course have already asked them to check with family/friends who may have gotten the package without their knowledge, neighbors who may have accidentally gotten the delivery, and the postal carrier. I then tell them we can file a missing package report with the post office, can I have your phone number so that a postal inspector can contact you? Scammers are likely to bail and ghost out on you there. If the buyer jumps through those hoops, I'm a lot more willing to refund on a 'delivered' item.

I live in Michigan. USPS here has been screwed up lately. I ship almost daily and the routes the packages take are crazy. My guess is that one of the main plants got hit hard by the virus.

@@alanm284 I thought I read a story that there were a couple cases at the Allen Park facility. I've had packages make it 100% on time (usually northern Michigan) and some priority take weeks. So far the customers have been understanding when I explain things
As soon as I see an order come in, I've been sending the buyer a message about possible shipping delays that way they shouldn't be surprised if something should happen, then I get the order shipped ASAP to at least give them a good feeling that I'm not the problem
I've only had one package get lost lately and that was a package going to Spain. Lost the item, had to refund the buyer and I got hit with a $20 charge from ebay. Probably the last international sale I'll make. I'd say that 75% of the time, there has been an issue with overseas buyers. Not worth it.
When you ship something overseas, while at the USPS counter, ask the clerk if there is insurance you can buy for that parcel. If you can't buy insurance for that parcel, that usually means there is a problem with their postal service i.e. theft of mail.

Being a seller this is something that annoys me. When you buy an item the listing has a time frame from when you pay to when they ship. It can be 1 day and up, Some have 4 business days as a shipping time-frame. You need to take note when you are buying so you know when to expect it to be shipped. If you are having an issue with a seller message them and get a communication going. The nicer you are the nicer they are. If you a combative right at the start, you are setting it up for a bad communication. You also need to think about what is going on in the world. Covid is affecting everything so a little patience goes a long way.
lennonscat I’m also a seller and you can’t keep blaming the covid cause your scared to get out of the house. Ive also take 1 day to ship my stuff out cause ppl don’t like waiting and it looks better on you. I’ve tried a couple times to messaging the seller and it’s been past the time he/she had to ship. So don’t write like I’m someone who doesn’t know what’s going on. I don’t want to do the refund but just maybe this is why he is only at a 96% and just so you know if I ever do get it. I would never ever leave a negative on someone but that’s just me.
I don't ,UPS ground is just as fast as Priority 99% of the time..and better tracking..

I got my knife last night! It will be up for sale on eBay for $99.99 plus shipping on top... seriously though. Follow up question to the missing shipped item. Buyer provided wrong address and tracking shows that item was undeliverable and note was left for buyer to pick up at post office. This status hasn’t changed for over a week. Buyer contacted me with the correct address and I responded kindly that I already shipped and he should track the package through USPS. What is my obligation now?
In my opinion unless the package comes back to you you're off the hook and if it does come back I would have to buyer pay for shipping again.
EBay will side with you and you can remind them to pick up the package before it comes back to you, tracking number has been provided for you in this situation. If it does come back they will either repay for shipping or refund unless you just want it gone. Idk if p.o will change the address if you ask for free 🤷♂️
In regards to the f lowrey comment - You missed part of there question. They said they put the difference in shipping in the box. You should refund through eBay so there is a record of it so if there is a problem with the package being lost they would not have to refund the full amount customer paid. If they just put money in the box they have to refund the full amount customer paid and also the money in the box is gone.

Someone messaged me and said they didn’t get their package and it shows delivered at front door. It was first class and I felt like I had to refund the buyer even after I told them I was going to look into it to give me a day and they still put the claim right after. Should I refund the buyer to close the case?
It's up to you, but I wouldn't. Your job ends when the package shows as delivered. If they have a porch pirate, or maybe they are even trying to pull a fast one, it's not your responsibility. Ebay will stand behind you if the package shows as delivered. So no, I would NOT refund them. There is a 50/50 chance they are trying to steal from you. I've experienced that more than once.
I wouldn't do it that way Jim, even if you intend to refund them, first you want to contact eBay ASAP and get the case closed in your favor. You want a human being to put eyes on this by contacting them and not letting the case auto-close -- they will find in your favor if they see a 'delivered' scan. You winning the case blocks the buyer from leaving feedback. How much would it suck for you to refund them and then they leave you a neg on top of it? Refund can occur after the fact at your discretion.
@@stephenb3348 This is exactly what happened to me. Tracking shows delivered, buyer claims they didn't get it and they still keep contacting me....writing in all caps and today messaged me again to say they ordered again from somebody else and got the order. Basically saying it's my fault somehow. I don't know whether to go ahead and refund them or block them. It's annoying.
James W. Awesome thank you so much James. I really appreciate it. They tried doing this to me again on a 70 dollar item and even asked me if I had insurance on it. So I told them it will be investigated and post people will look for cameras to verify it was shipped to the right place and they never replied anymore
