The history of landscape painting

Over the centuries, landscape painting has developed into the dominant genre of painting. The term landscape painting describes the pictorial artistic depiction of sections of both natural and man-made space. The subject matter can be concrete and idealised natural landscapes, for example, from hilly country to high mountains, seascapes, plains, rivers, mountain lakes and summit formations or motifs on the seashore. Frequent motifs are also man-made cultural landscapes as well as garden or park landscapes, industrial motifs and factory landscapes.
