- In this video, I take you through my DIY installation of the Hunt 50 Carbon Aero Disc Wheelset on my Trek Domane AL 3 (Gen 3). This upgrade was a thrilling project, and I opted for a tubed setup rather than going tubeless. Watch as I share my experience installing these wheels for the first time as an amateur!
Items Used in This Upgrade:
• Wheels: Hunt 50 Carbon Aero Disc Wheelset
• Tires: Vittoria Corsa Pro Control G2 TLR 700x32 (Para-Zwart)
• Brakes: Shimano RT-MT800 XT Centerlock Ice-Tech Freeza Rotors, 160mm (2x)
• Chain: Shimano CN-HG53 LX/Tiagra 9-Speed, 116 Links
• BBB ValveExtend BTI-99 Valve Extenders
This bike is a smooth-riding road bike, excelling on long tours, group rides, and even light gravel paths thanks to its lightweight frame and vibration-damping carbon fork. Join me as I dive into the process, sharing the challenges and excitement of upgrading my bike.
Pro tip - don't touch the rotor surfaces with your hands - the oils on your skin can contaminate them. Gloves, or hold them like an old vinyl record, on the edges.
I'm guilty of this! I need to buy special gloves for maintenance work actually
@@sleeklooking you don’t even need special gloves really. A box of 200 nitrile gloves costs less than $10 at the drug store - that’s what I use :)
@@PhilJohn1980 ill have a look! If i do wear them next time I make a video ill make sure to give you a shout!
I dont know how to say this but this is an exact copy of my thoughts when im working on my bike lol
HAHAHAHAHAHA I'm glad I'm not alone in this world XD
I've got these, been riding them for over a year. Great upgrade, nice and loud as well as durable.
That's good to hear! I even bought crash insurance on them because I'm afraid to break them XD
I'm waiting for my Hunt 50s to arrive this week. This video made me even more impatient xD haha
Yo dude I went through the same thing! the shipping took so long.
@@sleeklooking Really? Mine shipped the next day, however they haven’t moved a few days now… Hope to get them before weekend group ride 🤞
@@nosuperpowerman Hope so for you too! otherwise, its an extra 50 watts on average for you!
@@sleeklooking Just got the notification they arrived in my country 😁 soon I’ll be as happy as you are haha
@@nosuperpowerman I'm excited for you!
Great video man. I've just done the same on my AL5!
Thanks! Awh man AL5 Is a nice bike! It must sound much nicer now though!
I got the new hunt 40s on my Emonda alr. Ended up getting the hunt because I purchased the lifetime crash replacement and the new upgraded of wider internal rim.
Lifetime crash replacement is wise! Congrats on the purchase! I love it so far!
How have these wheels been holding up? Have they ended up getting louder after breaking in the grease?
They are holding up great! If they did get louder, it is barely noticeable.
@sleeklooking amazing! I was sort of hoping after what some said is that about after 100km or so the hub gets louder but I guess it varies. Can't wait to throw my hunt 50s on my Domane AL!
Regardless though, good to hear the wheels are still solid!
@ perhaps it’s in the KMs. I will let you know if they end up getting louder. Enjoy man let me know how you like em!
Hunt wheels are far to loud, but if it's your jam then fair enough, Campag or DT swiss are as loud as I go.
Yeah i love the sound mate. Why dont you like the sound btw? And is your dislike motivated intrinsically or extrinsically?
@@sleeklooking a mate on our on club runs has a set of Hunts, might even be the same model as yours, they are awesome wheels and I was on the fence buying myself but when he's freewheeling in the group thats the end of conversation in the group, so that put me off as I'm more in the quick(I like to think) leisure piece !! That said I feel Hunts and Scribe are primarily a racing specific set of wheels and if that's your focus then the sound would put the fear into your competitors, but my own capag shamals and dtswiss on 240 hubs suit a more general use I feel. Great vid though thank you, you have another subscriber in me.
@@thesaintirl thanks man hope my content can be more of value to you! In group rides i also try to never freewheel but i love it on solo rides and i don’t need to use my bell when traffic is blocking! 😂😂
@@sleeklookinghaha 😅 warns all those pedestrians to get the heck out of your way!!!
@@thesaintirl HAHAHHAHAHAHAH And scaring those Ebikes!
Nice upgrade, switch to tubeless it’s faster. Been tubeless over a year without a puncture. Previously would get a flat at least once a month.
Yeah I will be doing that too I think next year. I'm not sure if i want to go TPU or tubeless but let's see.
In regards to mistakes, invest in a torque wrench to prevent loose parts and or snapping components. Also never clamp your bike from the top tube try using the seat post to hold in repair stand.
Owh really? Ive always clamped it on the top tube. Why shouldn't you clamp it from the top tube?
@@sleeklookingtop tube is very thin in places, and not designed for clamping. Seat tube is designed to be clamped (because you have to clamp it into the frame for it not to move), and seat posts are a lot thicker.
You'll probably be fine as the bike is Aluminium, but it's a DEFINITE "do not ever do this" on a carbon frame.
@@PhilJohn1980 WOW, I never knew! Very good to know, thanks Phil!
@@sleeklooking no worries! We were all beginners at bike maintenance once :)
Pro tip don't buy Hunt wheels
AHHAHAHAH. Haters gonna hate XD
@@sleeklooking cheap ass wheel set LOL
@@justdan6869 if you send a better one over ill replace it 😂😂
