Much of the reason we only hear about the same titles over and over in online discussion is that the algorithm and online platforms promote and encourage content on already well known subject matter, so it's so much harder to build a platform in a niche by taking about older shows (an even nicher niche). So I applaud your efforts to highlight lesser known shows, these should be classics (if you wanna put it like that). And I hope you're channel grows more since this series and your other videos are really damn good That last one especially sounds like a concept people nowadays would love, especially those who ignore dating sims or harems because they expect a typical bland self insert protagonist. All these shows sound pretty cool.
This classic anime discussion has been a thing way before "the algoritim", anime didn't start at 2010. Lost gems from 1970's were forgoten or never came to be known by major audiences for others reasons. The main one being they have never been as much broadcasted worldwide as other tv shows (speedracer, gatchaman, doraemon and whatever). This makes the titles eventually lose traction with time. But for anime watchers from the 70s, those are probably titles they know. In case of modern anime, they might became lost gem for being too experimental for the major audience IMO
Well spoken. Even today, I hear people say One Piece is the longest running anime. If you know what is the longest running anime, please say so in the hopes that these people will finally zip it.
Instead they promote the same inconclusive discussion that old animes are better, or that modern animes are better, both views didn't lead anyone to any results.

Me and my mates binged Kurenai Sanshiro in the past three days. It truly is the best anime from the 60s. Every episode had at least one moment that had us in awe. The use of mixed-media in the first episode is especially amazing. I love that they sometimes use foil textures to make blades look more realistic. Our ten favourite episodes were: 1, 2, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 18, 22 and 25. I'm so sad there's not more. No OVA, no movie, no anniversary reboot, nothing. Sanshiro wasn't even in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Maybe because could solo everyone.
It seems there is kind of "a myth of the geniality of old anime". While there are some really lost gems somewhere to be found, most of those 60s-70s anime won't pass the test of time and are plain bad shows. I haven't watched this judo one, but I feel it would be the case with this one too.
What's up with this idea that anything past ten years ago is just inherently worse, anyways? It's seriously wild to me how people seem to just assume that implicitly. Baseless idea.
11:50 Reminds me of To Heart, a late 90s light romcom which was actually adapted from an H game! But with all the H elements removed, and turned into a totally wholesome slice-of-life with a bit of a 'magic realism' flair. Strange adaptational choice, but it's a very cozy little show.
Most eroge aren't that focused on the sexy stuff. It's usually like 1% of the runtime and very tame, on the level of an R rated movie. There are of course outliers, but I'm talking the narratively driven stuff.
I've actually had Sentimental Journey sitting on my hard drive for years at this point, only not seeding it because there was a purge of inactive users from the tracker I got it from during a six-month period when my house had no electricity-it's a long story-but if we have the same source set of files, I could probably chip in.
I reread mangas, I read Kurumada's first ones and it's impressive how he created a lot of the Battle Shounen that Hokuto and Dragon Ball sing so much about, in fact the guy created the genre of sports with powers. Just going in depth to get huge information.
I've been going deep into classic anime over the last two years, and yet haven't heard of any of these works. All of them look great though, fantastic recommendations (excluding Bobby's Girl, I had heard of that)
Have you covered Ashita no Joe? It feels very related to this. :D I see some overlap in the people who worked on this, like Hirata, and those who worked on Joe.
@5:53 Manga Nippon Mukashibanashi is one of my favorite TV Anime! I've only ever managed to get access to 240+ episodes.. and would LOVE to know where I can watch the rest, if you luckily know.
Wow, Judo Boy looks just perfect. Looks like a perfect Tarantino anime, it's possible he watched it as he's a huge Speed Racer fan. I have an interesting story about Manga Sekai Mukashi Banashi. I completely by accident stumbled upon the heavily edited English dub of the Alice in Wonderland, and immediately I noticed how much everything looked and felt like the original Pokemon series (one of my faves). I assumed probably the director Kunihiko Yuyama was the same, or at least one of the episode directors. But I looked it up and...no...it was TAKESHI SHUDO, the head writer for the first 2 seasons(also known for Time Etranger and Momo), who was far more influential on the style of Pokemon anyway. So yeah, I pinpointed his writing style from the overall direction from a 2 minute clip of an english dub of an anthology series with different writers and directors each episode that came out 20 years prior to Pokemon.
Miyazaki has been in the anime industry since 1963, ya dum dum. Miyazaki carried forward the tradition of Toei films from the 1960s, which saw themselves as competing with Disney. It's a different tradition, but it's all anime.

I remember Judo Boy being hilarious. Funny how no villains deny being the main bad until they lose.

Created by the showrunner of the original Pokemon Series!
I gotta watch that again. I forget what it was about, but I remember it being insane.

Love hearing about old obscure anime.
Same
Fire visuals, I like a lot when anime directors where experimental back then.
Check out Patalliro!
What they lacked in technology they made up for with creative direction.
The way you talk about this show in the beginning of the vid is how I feel about Kimagure Orange Road.
Yeah KOR was an experience
What people felt when Naruto finally kissed Hinata 10 years ago is what I went through with Johnny and Sabrina first.

Much appreciated!

This was fun and interesting. I love the SomeDays Dreamers and Sentimental Journey they sound like wonderful anime. Cool video. ^_^
thats the fugitive plot line the one arm man ... interesting wondering if this was a trope of the time
man, for some reason computer animation had just killed the beautiful way anime used to render light and color. Animation has just got so flat now.
Just in time, I was looking for some new recommendations and these are pitch perfect. Thanks!
These crazy 60s backgrounds are sure... 60s.

back when they used to do background animation with drawing not like now everything is 3D

Sonic Superstars is 100% sure to have a better critical reception when it's 5 bucks in a steam sale in 5 or so years
