Kim Ayaa the best thing to learn vocal technique is to hire a vocal coach but there are online videos and sources that are helpful enough, they won’t be able to provide the feedback, tips, and criticism on your singing that only a vocal coach can do but they’ll at least introduce you to certain concepts and healthy singing practices

The only YG trained idols from old YG I can say have gotten their vocals to a high level are Taeyang and Jay. The others improved (of course, it's training), but never really got to a high level.

that is what you call an amazing vocal teacher. no wonder sm singers are amazing. not only does he know his stuff, he is able to tend to each of their personal problems and how to handle them, and also at the same time hold a certain value when it comes to singing; not just being able to sing well, but having the passion and emotions and the confidence and love. he knew minzy was talented and more importantly, capable of accepting judgement, so he treated and approached her very respectfully and easily, you can see he was more open and free on what he says. but when it comes to somi who's still so young and understandably stressed out and pressured or yewon who's gone such trauma, he knows how to gently approach them and work with them, making sure they get better but being soft at the same time. for someone so serious and reserved, he's very empathic. i can see why red velvet members are so close to hom.

ah, I think I know what you're preferring to. But it isn't really an SM thing, it's just that SM has a lot of notable (male) singers that can reach THAT high to the point it sounds like a whistle. It depends on the song too if it requires those kinds of hella high notes.
yes, there are different types of hitting high notes but hitting high notes "that" way is actually better bcos if they just use their chest voice and throat voice(like what minzy did first) it could strain their voices or they can get vocal nodules if they keep doing that. and also, their chest+head voice can go higher than just chest voice. but that's my opinion on how i see this.

Luisa ikr... when she was in sixteen, i realized that she can sing not extremely high notes but quite high notes and voices are good to listen. but in produce 101, she obviously doesnt have much chance to show what she got and her potential(but in yum yum she did a great job), and when she finally debuted, other members like sejeong yeonjung pinky those strong vocalists, and those sour comments, makes her to decide to cover up her potential and play the safe side. now she is alone and join this show, im glad that she finds herself and open her knot again... so that next time whether she is in the group or go solo, she will survive well ☺

Im still amazed at how two Black Beat members become one of the most important person in SM. Jinyoung and Jae, they both has been teaching SM trainees all this time and you can actually see how skillfull they are. So much respect for them 👏👏
the problem started when she had her vocals tested as an IOI member, so its Mnet/YMC Entertainment's fault. She didnt say anything about JYP or her time on SIXTEEN
But the SM trainer noticed her forcing herself to sing as Alto when she isn't supposed to only on the first listen (and by just listening to her talking!) How did the JYP trainers not notice that O_o. Well anyways, it's a good thing that it's getting fixed now, she's still 16 y/o so she has a lot of time for improvement >.

Tbh, No one in YG is particularly good at hitting high notes which is probably why. I think Taeyang, CL & Rose are decent though. Overall I think it comes down to the lack of "full" vocal training + not really fitting YG's music style
@@saranguyen2788 it's not lacking tho YG isn't a company that is focus on vocals in the first place they train artist the way they should be train but as you have said with *lacking* I think it's more on YG not wanting to go for more and solidifying something that is not fitted for a YG artist (YG is more known on performances, charisma,swag etc). YG solidify an artist more on how they can build charisma and stage presence in order to give off a memorable performance which is their trademark. Even when it comes to their dance they would go for something that is light and easy to catch up in order for their artist to still sing the song live rather than doing lip sync.
Somi said that she wanted to take lessons and practice more but couldn't because of work and it really seems to bother her and you would think with JYPE, being one of the biggest companies in South Korea, would actually find a way to help Somi get lessons and still work.
It's very nice to see SM's vocal trainer working with an already professional singer. Even professionals know that they have flaws, and Minzy knew that :) It just goes to show that her professionalism is very high, and I can see that through her vocal training.
Finally, I think we all know why SM's artist high note sounds similar kekeke xD The vocal trainer may be serious in the past few episodes, however, he's so cute and nice when he's all open up with the members xD

the way teacher Jinyoung talks/explain/console Somi was soo calm yet precise and meaningful. He surely is a nice person and and outstanding teacher/trainer. That also explains why SM hired him.
I feel especially bad for Somi because it's not like she only reads negative comments that are posted in Korean, she most likely reads the English ones and some of the stuff people say about her is so rude. Please remember guys she's only 16 the teen years is when your self-confidence plummets the most. So even if you don't like her please watch some of the stuff you say it can really hurt her.

Somi's story now in 2020 is the real example of how good or bad teachers can change the future of someone.. When she was in JYP she was always told what to do and how to do it.. Then she went on this show where they taught how to sing confidently.. And now she's with teddy who let's her do whatever she wants since he believes in her.. I honestly used to love JYPE but after so many of my favorites left the company because of the staff in the company I started understanding more why trainees and artists leave JYP

Somi's situation is somewhat related to Rosé. Trainers tried to make her voice higher and more nasally to make it unique. That's why some of her performances sounded forced and strained.

I went from crying because of Somi's situation and was thankful of the teacher for helping her as well and then there comes Jinkyung singing on the other side of the room when Somi paused from her singing in the practice room lmaoo.
I was like Somi too.. when I sing I'm not that comfortable because some people says... when I reach the High note They keep saying I was shouting and... they keep comparing me to my classmate whom they think is a good singer than me... that's why every time I sing I felt nervous instead of enjoying the song I keep guarding my tone whether it is flat, sharp or I'm not using my diaphragm when I sing things like that... back then... people keep telling me I'm a good singer but when I was gr.9 some of my classmates told me that my voice is like fake that's when it starts That I felt uncomfortable when I sing... up until now I felt like my voice is gone because I know to myself that my breathing and how I sing is not that good... but when I watch this I was so very inspired because I realize that when people told that your voice is not that good don't stay at it keep moving until you get better... and also I realized that Singing is not just to sing a song but to sing in front of people and inspired them ~
i feel so thankful for Somi to have this opportunity. i can only imagine how many things go through her mind (like she's not an idol but a currently celebrity and she needs time to improve her skills in order to become a singer/idol but due to her schedule she doesn't have proper time for it). i loved her session with the vocal coach. i just hope in the future she finds a way to keep working with him (aside from JYP) because this guy would do wonderful things to her skills!

The teacher is freaking freaking good. I have had many teachers and also gave lessons as well, meet many other teachers and saw many lessons as well. I can say, that is very good at saying the right things at the right time and he knows what he's doing. Should be a given, but unfortunately that's very rare. I'm very impressed.
Honestly I had no idea Somi was in I.O.I till this video and like every time I listened to "Very Very Very" i always remembered the one particular voice that sang in the chorus that I loved because it really stood out to me and that was her wow.

Yeah, most people can learn to sing since it's a skill. Some people just pick it up better. Like any other skill some people will be naturally better

the problem started when she had her vocals tested as an IOI member, so its Mnet/YMC Entertainment's fault. She didnt say anything about JYP or her time on SIXTEEN
But the SM trainer noticed her forcing herself to sing as Alto when she isn't supposed to only on the first listen (and by just listening to her talking!) How did the JYP trainers not notice that O_o. Well anyways, it's a good thing that it's getting fixed now, she's still 16 y/o so she has a lot of time for improvement >.

Tbh, No one in YG is particularly good at hitting high notes which is probably why. I think Taeyang, CL & Rose are decent though. Overall I think it comes down to the lack of "full" vocal training + not really fitting YG's music style

@@saranguyen2788 it's not lacking tho YG isn't a company that is focus on vocals in the first place they train artist the way they should be train but as you have said with *lacking* I think it's more on YG not wanting to go for more and solidifying something that is not fitted for a YG artist (YG is more known on performances, charisma,swag etc). YG solidify an artist more on how they can build charisma and stage presence in order to give off a memorable performance which is their trademark. Even when it comes to their dance they would go for something that is light and easy to catch up in order for their artist to still sing the song live rather than doing lip sync.

I feel especially bad for Somi because it's not like she only reads negative comments that are posted in Korean, she most likely reads the English ones and some of the stuff people say about her is so rude. Please remember guys she's only 16 the teen years is when your self-confidence plummets the most. So even if you don't like her please watch some of the stuff you say it can really hurt her.

Somi's story now in 2020 is the real example of how good or bad teachers can change the future of someone.. When she was in JYP she was always told what to do and how to do it.. Then she went on this show where they taught how to sing confidently.. And now she's with teddy who let's her do whatever she wants since he believes in her..
I honestly used to love JYPE but after so many of my favorites left the company because of the staff in the company I started understanding more why trainees and artists leave JYP

Somi's situation is somewhat related to Rosé. Trainers tried to make her voice higher and more nasally to make it unique. That's why some of her performances sounded forced and strained.

I went from crying because of Somi's situation and was thankful of the teacher for helping her as well and then there comes Jinkyung singing on the other side of the room when Somi paused from her singing in the practice room lmaoo.
I was like Somi too.. when I sing I'm not that comfortable because some people says... when I reach the High note They keep saying I was shouting and... they keep comparing me to my classmate whom they think is a good singer than me... that's why every time I sing I felt nervous instead of enjoying the song I keep guarding my tone whether it is flat, sharp or I'm not using my diaphragm when I sing things like that... back then... people keep telling me I'm a good singer but when I was gr.9 some of my classmates told me that my voice is like fake that's when it starts That I felt uncomfortable when I sing... up until now I felt like my voice is gone because I know to myself that my breathing and how I sing is not that good... but when I watch this I was so very inspired because I realize that when people told that your voice is not that good don't stay at it keep moving until you get better... and also I realized that Singing is not just to sing a song but to sing in front of people and inspired them ~
i feel so thankful for Somi to have this opportunity. i can only imagine how many things go through her mind (like she's not an idol but a currently celebrity and she needs time to improve her skills in order to become a singer/idol but due to her schedule she doesn't have proper time for it). i loved her session with the vocal coach. i just hope in the future she finds a way to keep working with him (aside from JYP) because this guy would do wonderful things to her skills!

The teacher is freaking freaking good. I have had many teachers and also gave lessons as well, meet many other teachers and saw many lessons as well. I can say, that is very good at saying the right things at the right time and he knows what he's doing. Should be a given, but unfortunately that's very rare. I'm very impressed.
