Ólavur Riddararós ("tað íslendska lagið")

Niels á Velbastað skipar Ólav Riddararós saman við Dansifelagnum í Havn. Upptøkan er gjørd í Hornahúsunum av sjónvarpinum hjá KvF í 2014. Hetta er eitt brot av kvæðinum. Hetta lagið er ørvísi enn lagið, sum vanliga verður brúkt í Føroyum, tað er sprottið úr tí sama lagnum, sum íslendingar brúka til Ólafur Liljurós. Tíverri er okkurt hent við upptøkuni so ljóð og myndir ikki fylgjast alla tíðina.
Ólavur fer burtur at siga álvagentuni, sum hann hevur fjasað við, frá at tey ikki longur kunnu síggjast, tí hann skal giftast. Hon sigur at hann kann velja millum at leggja sjúkur í sjey ár, ella doyggja í morgin. Ólavur velur seinna, og álvagentan gevur Ólavi eitraðan drykk. Sjúkur kemur hann heim og doyr - og saman við honum doyggja moyggin og móðurin av sorg.
Í dansitíðini skipar Dansifelagið í Havn vanliga fyri barnadansi í Norðurlandahúsinum fríggjakvøld kl. 20.00, og vanligum dansi í Hornahúsunum, kl. 22.00. Sí nærri á / danshavn ella www.danshavn.org
Niels á Velbastað is the lead singer of Ólavur Riddararós together with Dansifelagið í Havn (the Faroese Chain Dance Association in Tórshavn). The recording was made by KvF (the Faroese Broadcasting) in 2014. This is a part of the ballad. This tune is different from the usual tune used in the Faroes, but similar to the tune to the Icelandic version Ólafur Liljurós. Unfortunately something happened to the recording so that pictures and sound are not in sync for the whole video.
Ólavur tells the elf girl, that he earlier has been in love with that they cannot see each other anymore because he is going to get married. She gets angry and Ólavur has to choose whether he wants to be sick for seven years or to die the next day. He chooses the latter and the elf girl gives him poison to drink. He returnes home and is very ill and dies. His fiancée and mother also die of sadness.

Usually there are some public event - e.g. during Ólavsøka in the summer. The dance is otherwise mainly during the winter season, and in local associations, but most of them would welcome you to watch and to try it out. But I guess you'll at least wait for the coronasituation to improve first...
