    Thanks so much for sharing your journey in this way, Fedor. I struggle with being (too) risk averse sometimes and definitely have been feeling the pain of moving up in stakes + experiencing variance at the same time. Your ability to stay upbeat and maintain an objective perspective is inspiring!

    At last someone who’s totally transparent with Poker winning/ Losing. I’ve always respected Fedor and his young German friends. The Poker sites don’t want you to know this, they want to sell you the dream that you can play cards for a living. You have here one of the best in the world explaining how it really is. He’ll always win at the game in the long term. My respect is even higher for the likes of Pokercode and the Raise your edge guys.

    Crazy how a winning or losing a big flip here & there can really change what kind of year u have, you win 2 big flips in a major tournament and you FT or win and carry that momentum to play more & have more confidence. Where as you lose that AK flip and you bubble then you carry that stress and bubble again, now ur tilted and start firing bigger..i believe momentum is Huge in poker.

    • @PhilBot4OOO
      @PhilBot4OOO 2 года назад +7

      If winning/losing a flip has this much of an impact on your game/game selection you are probably playing outside your comfort zone, either mentally or financially, to begin with.
      If you are living comfortably outside of poker and playing full time with a correctly structured roll, flips should never change your approach or your mental state. They are as much a part of the game as a deck of cards. I understand sometimes you will find yourself in a huge equity flip maybe in the last couple tables of a tournament and winning or losing that flip is worth a lot of $ev. However, if you are playing well and most importantly, as Fedor mentions, putting in volume, you will find yourself on both sides of those high $ev flips many times over.
      I hate to take away from your comment but momentum is a psychological factor, the more you are affected by the psychology of the game, the less rational you are in decision making. You should never 'start firing bigger' because you lost a flip, this is a sure fire way to bust a roll. If you tilt over flips you should genuinely reconsider poker.
      I hope you don't think I'm just picking you apart in the comments section for the sake of it but this is real advice. If I had to guess you don't play for a living. If you do then you really seriously need to work on your mental approach. Structure your roll in a way that losing flips and busting tournaments does not affect your ability to stay the course. Spend time studying. Get familiar with variance, not just as a concept but numerically how drastically it can alter outcome in short samples(again covered somewhat in the video here) and be aware when it is swinging your way too, some people experience short term variance and think they have ascended to poker godliness and make irrational decisions, believing they can beat tough games, play outside their roll etc. Be humble. Enjoy the game for what it is, a lot of luck with a sprinkle of skill that allows good players to overcome luck in the long run if you're disciplined.
      All the best.

    When someone enters a tournament thinking they have a 0-5% edge, isn't it very possible that in reality the edge is actually negative. Edges are all just educated guesses at the end of the day and can't really be known ever.

    Players who "want to play against the best in the world" seem to be missing the missing the most important skill in poker... game selection. 4% ROI on these super high roller events barely covers all the miscellaneous costs... travel, food, rake, tips, entertainment. If that is the best you can hope for... it is hardly seems worth it. Sounds like ego getting in the way of sound decisions.

    • @Stefanburakov

    • @joomorrow
      @joomorrow 2 года назад +2

      It's not as simple. You have to factor in other different factors. E.g. how much your own game can improve by playing against tougher opponents (jungleman is well known for his reverse game selection while moving up), and how much exposure you get by playing in televised tournaments (to get better sponsorship deals, coaching deals, etc...).

    • @joomorrow
      @joomorrow 2 года назад

      @Duncan Donut Donut those who want to play super high rollers "against the best" aren't "99.99999% of us".

  • @jayfromaz
    @jayfromaz 2 года назад +1

    Run bad for a couple of thousand games. It sounds more like tossing a coin for heads or tails and you'll see a run of for example heads and that goes on for a while. So you would win if you bet heads. Besides the skill of knowing how to play it just seems that in the long term it really depends on a lot of luck. And that would depend on the amount of money you won when you were running good. Another look factor. There are a lot of poker players out there who used to win millions of dollars that are now penniles. The variance finally caught up with them and their ability to play in games that were the wrong game at the right point in time for him to lose everything.

    • @Tom_Bee_

      If you play within your bankroll in games where you have an edge over a statistically significant sample, your RoR will be approaching zero. To summarise, bankroll management, game selection, volume and poker skill equal wins.

    i've been playing like 50-80 buy ins per day (include satellites, mtts) for a short period of time in online poker, let's imagine if you sat down more than 10 hours per day, 6 days per week, how many mental and health being wasted away? I experienced a liver burn sitting in front of my computer, and let's be honest, it's definitely not for everyone grinding as a road to become a pro!
