Id like to find one in red handle and id use itas an extra -aybe edc for woods work because of the sharp spine and scandi grind specifically should be easy to shave some feathet sticks amd scrape up some fatwood shavings and or magnesium ,i dont pound a blade through thick logs or any thing but i might split a small limb to make feather sticks or kindling but rarely so i think this should augment my full or rattail tang knives just fine ,amd for a quick jaunt out in the hills i think id be confidant with this as an emergency blade for basic survival needs should i have to stay out a night or two .
The Finn Wolf is one of my favorite knives. In fact, I really like the whole Finn line. They were my first bushcrafting knives. Thanks for showing the Wolf!
I have the Finn Wolf in orange, just like yours, and it's a super-tough workhorse of a knife. The blade is indeed scary sharp, but as always with Scandi grinds, there's a trade-off - it'll get dull quite fast, but then it's easy to sharpen up again. My only criticism of the Finn Wolf is that there are a lot of uncomfortable sharp corners and edges on the handle - I had to take some fine wet-or-dry paper to it to smooth them down a little, and now it feels much better in the hand. I had the same issue with the Cold Steel Bush Ranger Lite.
i find this to be a common thing with cold steel folders, i just put the fine belt on my workshop and give it a quick pass and that seems to do the trick
My pharmacy suggested taking vitamin B1 to keep skeeters from biting you . I’ve been doing this for the last couple of years and it seems to work . Plus a cup of sassafras tea once or twice a week helps also .
Have had my finn wolf for many years now. Took it on quite a few camping trips. Love it. The hot spots are not a problem for me since I always wear a pair of gloves. I got tired of hurting my hands on everything. Burning them, cutting them, stabbing them, scraping them. Bushcraft gloves solved that.
its funny how many times gloves are overlooked as essential outdoor gear. i have to do so much stuff with my hands that having a bunch of splinters, thorns, or bug bites on them is just not worth the bragging rights of "look how tough my hands are'
Cold steel makes some really good knives. My first cold steel knife was a recon 1 tanto and it has handled everything I have thrown at it. It still remains my edc.
funny thing is, i mained a recon 1 clip point for so many years as my beater do it all edc knife........and this fin wolf replaced it bc im like oh thank god if i chip the edge or whatever its only 30 bucks to replace instead of 130.
I realy love this knife. I liked it so much i baught 2. 1 is my edc it goes with me when ever im working or playing. Makes a great knife to put im the tacklebox or just working. It feels good in my hand and holds a good edge and it sharpens up to a razor edge as well. Everything from bush craft cleaning fish and skinning game. I just wished it came out yrs ago as a young man when i had more play time in the woods. Great knife
Good to see your review of the Cold Steel Finn Wolf folder. If one needs a folder for the woods, this seems to be a fine choice. I have had mine so long that there was no color choice when I bought it. LOL. Presumably mine is the OD Green handle. The hot spot I get is releasing the lock! ;-) I actually bought two and switched as the second seemed to release the Tri-Ad lock a bit easier. The size and releasing the lock has kept me from using it as an EDC for small tasks, along with more knives than I get to frequently use, but it certainly cuts well.
I'm pretty sure the last time I heard someone say "takes a licking and keeps on ticking" I was watching Marlin Perkins on Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom :-)
Thats a cool little knife. Impressed! I like the looks if your new watch that you have been wearing lately. Thanks for sharing this knife with us. Be safe and God Bless
While I avoid batoning a folder if at all possible, I note that I saw Felix Immler batoning in a small way with one of his ubiquitous Swiss Army Knives, and the knife was partially folded instead of being fully open. I think this may reduce stress on the hinge.
i have one as an edc. Mostly was an experiment bc i found it for less than 30 bucks and i do love cold steel and i couldnt believe it but it replaced my recon 1 as my main edc, mostly bc if i by some total freak accident damage this one, its so cheap i can just replace it without any care in the world
Not sure how I missed this video.... You got me hooked on cold steel and I have 6 pieces now. I really like the idea of a folding scandi blade. Thanks much !
I’m one of the folks that bugged you about the Finn Wolf. It’s my edc knife and I own many but always come back to this knife. I do think mine has metal liners but not sure (on break, at work)... I’m wearing my work knife right now.
Good review brother , I've out off buying one of these for years I gotta get one . I would love to see your review and opinion of the Real Steel bushcraft folder. Also they now have their Bushcraft Plus Convex knife I've owned the full flat edition and think you would really like their Convex or full flat. It has a kydex sheath core with nylon molle sheath, the kydex sheath can be removed . The knife comes in around $95-$105 , it's 14C28N steel and imho a better setup rig than the Garberg. It also has G10 removable scales and a hidden lanyard hole so it doesn't rub on your hand. I've also had the Scandinavian grind I prefer the full flat , but the new convex is the way to go imo. I bet Real Steel would send you one for review.. OH also they did a Japan only special edition called Bushcraft Plus Ebony Convex that is on par with Bark River . They are supposed to release the leather sheath style in September , it's a gorgeous looking knife and I've only seen one video on RUclips.ruclips.net/video/kFxzeSpjK2Q/видео.html That's the link for the ebony😁
The little nick on your finger, JUST LIKE MY EXPERIENCE when I began using my Cold Steel Voyager.WARNING: just the weight of the blade falling when release is pressed immediately swung the VERY SHARP blade into my 1st finger holding the handle! Not just once, but about three more times before I remembered my pain and changed my grip when releasing the blade lock! Good review, consistant with my experience with my Cold Steel knives. My thumbs-up on Cold Steel knives, also.
Cold steel's lock is much stronger but I wouldn't baton with neither of them. They are still designed for cutting and should never replace fixed blade.
I enjoy this knife , especially for outdoor camping , fishing activities, . Seems perfect for all basic outdoor uses . I seem to reach for this one instead of my Mora Garberg Stainless Steel hanging from my belt. I have the o.d. green. But for everday carry and everyday use I use the Leatherman Skeletool Cx. Hello Brian , Can you do a review on the Leatherman Skeletool CX.
A parte que eu mais gosto dos vídeos dele é quando ele atira uma faca num alvo, acerta o alvo, olha pra câmera e da risada... E eu dou risada do riso dele... kkkkk (The part I like most about his videos is when he throws a knife at a target, hits the target, looks at the camera and laughs ... And I laugh at his laugh ... kkkkk)
Hey, get a CRKT Hammond Cruiser and try that out. Beefy utility/fighting knife with liner lock and easy deployment. It won’t match that 100% but darn good for what you get at the price, since it’s been discontinued. They made so many there easy to get.
Bryan, a lot of fellas are moving back into classic old school edc. Using copper, leather, bronze and old slipjoint knives. I was wondering if you could review the uncle henry canoe slipjoint pocket knife. Thanks. Love the show.
Great review as always! I have 2 Finnwolfs, an orange and a blue. I love these knives but the spines on both of mine are not sharp enough to strike a ferro rod like yours was. I wonder if Cold Steel made a change because a knife like this absolutely should have a 90 degree spine. Easily remedied though with a file. I’ve had mine for about 6 months. No matter, I wouldn’t trade them for anything else. The price/performance cannot be beat and really carry one to backup a Mora bushcraft knife. Keep up the great reviews, I always look forward to watching your videos.
I've been looking at one of these. Mainly because I can't find a folder that has all of the characteristics I'm looking for. I'd buy from Taiwan.. they hate China, haha! Thanks Brian.
I too was very impressed with my finwolf. Just must be a steel snob these days Aus 8 just doesn’t do it for me. However, that said I sharpened mine and put a small micro bevel on the edge thinking to reinforce it some, wow! If it could be sharper, that did it, it is scary sharp, like a scalpel. I think that with a zero grind, behind the edge is nothing. I cut myself closing just shaving a layer of skin, careful with that one it’ll bite you!
Mine has gutted everything from trout and above, carved shallow bowls, spoons, and forks. Cutting many steaks that I bought a steak house that's tableware was extremely worthless. I NEVER leave the house with my finnwolf, and MY SAK. I could not count how many fires my wolf has preped and started.
There was I band about 20 or 30 years ago who had an album named Knee Deep in the Hoopla. Can't remember who and not going to look until I think I got it. Seems like it was the Stones or the Who...I'll get it in a little bit : )
Brian, another safety Orange Cold Steel for your collection. Which one of these orange plastic handled blades did you like better? The folder or the Survival Knife.
Brian I love that you started sharing Chuck Norris facts again.. seems you've lost a certain skunk somewhere though.. hope you find him and get him on the show some time.
Probably cheaper or same $$$ on Amazon with FREE S&H with Prime. Maybe 2 hour or next day 24/7 delivery. Just ordered orange one $40. Wish they made 6" blade model. Will use 4 EDC knifearooney. U R GREAT knife salesman! Blade HQ should hire U as their GM. Start reviewing guns!!! Guns & knives go together like PB&J! You could shoot a 300lb+ ferrell hog then field dress it out/skin it/butcher it. Would B great gun/knife test. LOL! Best Regards, Rob Phx, Az 🇺🇸😃
Looks close to perfect, but not good enough for me unfortunately. If you want to get the most out of the cutting edge, the thumb studs get in the way of sharpening, light batoning, and even feather sticking. One could work around it, but why not improve the design? A thumb hole like on Spyderco or the Victorinox Hunter knives would make this absolutely a winner. Also no need to remove the studs anymore. It's been years since they released this so I hope they improve it soon.

The World’s best outdoor folding knife for less than $50.00 is either the Victorinox Camper SAK or the Buck 110 depending upon one’s need for multiple tools. End-of-story! 😀 This Cold Steel knife is OK, but just not in the same class as the 2 knives above.
Isn’t there a fixed blade version of that knife? The Fin Hawk or something. I remember it being basically a Mora knock-off... Yeah, you got yourself a folding Mora knock-off right there.

Brian, the Finn Wolf is my EDC knife. I also make it my cutting tool for my personal survival kit as well. Great review.
I was thinking of using a finn wolf as an edc. Do you like it as an edc knife?
It's been my EDC for 3 years now. It's lightweight and slim. I hardly notice that I'm carrying it.
