Standing ovation for Robert Smith from here Austin, for his incredible generosity, This gift not only benefit the 400 plus students, but many of these students will do the same, these will eventually benefit thousands of students and people around the US and the world!
@Michael Kahr Wow!! No one knew he was going to do this so how did they rely on charity?? He stepped up on his OWN initiative and gave students a headstart to a debt free beginning in their lives! There are some millionaires and billionaires out there who think there is more to life than greed and stockpiling homes, cars, private jets, yachts etc AND though I have no problem with what a person does with the money THEY earn clearly, this gentleman is not just into the shallow surface silliness and with an estimated net worth of 5 Billion dollars he won't even feel it and will probably make that money back in a few month's with no problem! Also, NONE of the students he helped asked for charity or a handout, why not just celebrate a gracious gesture? After all, he did'nt pledge to pay their mortgages, credit card bills, car notes and monthly bills for the rest of their lives.
@Michael Kahr understood your comment very clearly and was not attacking you, and obviously capitalism is great as long as it is not unbridled. My father had his own business for 36 years, I had my own business for 12 yet even though I believe in everyone having a chance at creating their own dream, everyone is NOT going to be a millionaire or billionaire because of scarcity! There are millions of Americans who work everyday, many of whom have two and three jobs they are not lazy NOR are most people looking for a handout they will simply never achieve millionaire or billionaire status. My statement was another way of saying this man did a beautiful thing and that should be celebrated in and of itself. The media likes to perpetuate a narrative or should I say "some news media outlets" like to perpetuate a narrative that those who don't achieve a certain status are lazy which is not only false, but in some cases a perpetual lie for political expediency! Case in point we have a generous african american man who graciously pledged to pay off student loans for "graduating" students at a predominantly black college! Awesome good for him he is a "capitalist" who decided to do what he wanted with HIS money. It was'nt charity, it was'nt "welfare" it did'nt cost the taxpayers a plugged nickel so in my humble opinion his act of generosity is incredible and he is "practicing" what many preach! And although this is a predominately black college, I don't for one minute believe this graduating class is full of people looking for charity or a handout.
@Michael Kahr agreed, I am an Independent who has supported two Reps and two Dems Presidents, both have pos and negs, but I can tell you this....Rump will NOT be getting my vote period! And I see no Dem that even remotely has the filth this man has, attached to them so, I hope the Dems can put forth an agenda that will get this dude out of the WH!
Wow!!!!!!!!!! OFF THE CHAIN!!!!!! That is living it like you preach it! Go forward Class of 2019 and Pay forward with LOVE. Best thing I have seen from media this year.
please work to make this man president...finally someone gets it...The key to make this nation great again isn't to sow seeds of racial division. What you do is provide middle class student loan relief. Pay off the loans or cap loan repayment at 5 years so men and women can get on with their lives. Right now loans are being repaid back in 20 to 30 years! That's too long! It's not principle...it's interest!
tears in ma hear n my nose running wt liquids that i cnt control....we r all neighbours ..he does nt knw them all in persn but he went so far to help them..relief their families n change alot of future wt just this one act of kindness....he has very large n good heart God bless his family n generation .
What a thoughtful and loving humanitarian gift Robert Smith gave to those college students. They will not have to contend with the stress of paying college loans, and can be more circumspect choosing a job. God bless Mr. Smith and the college students.
This is a pay it forward, a most generous person. There are ways to do the deed the gentleman did, with little, if any tax lability. You can bet his bean counters have all the ducks in a row. A tip of the hat to Mr. Robert Smith. Bravo, well done!
Wow im overwhelmed as if i was attending Morehouse college its also blessing due to my cousin is part of the senior 2019 class at morehouse great great man made a powerful move in history where are you millionaires and billionaires entertainers/athletes/moguls and etc im not calling names out but hopefully you all get the pictures give back on level such as Mr.Robert F. Smith
Such a noble act from a great person. Not only the World needs more individuals like him, we also need those graduates to take this amazing opportunity and contribute towards a better existence in whatever fashion they find more suitable.
Now, this is what giving back to the community means. Some wealthy people are greedy and just hoard for their own interests but this example will empower the black community for a while. Please pay it forward, Morehouse class of 2019! It starts with you since we cannot depend on others to help us. Lets start with opening black owned businesses in our areas. West End in Atlanta (where Morehouse is located) is a great area for this to start. After all, this is where the black owned business of Slutty Vegan is located - ruclips.net/video/9D4O14ZLNHE/видео.html and www.blackenterprise.com/plant-based-burger-joint-slutty-vegan/
Smith is a billionare and not a millionaire. Generations of his family got to where he is at. God Bless America and only in America. Other billionaires have paid it forwards as well.
Should change the hearts of many more rich people who could give an helping hand to a very good cause, that would help the less fortunate. Thank you Mr. Robert Smith. Hats 🎓 off to you.
There is a strong movement started by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett to share their fortune with others, Robert Smith was one of the first ones to join them, they have giving already billions!
U think about all the professional athletes, music artists, etc. Who make millions of dollars, if they all would pool in towards something like this, there would be so many more students who wouldn’t have to worry about paying off loans.. I feel like the issue isn’t money, cuz it’s there, we all just need to check our situation and see how we can be generous
He obviously can't pay for everyone, and it's not about that. It's not about those who didn't get but those who did. The ones he did this for have a special burden now to make something special happen for others by paying it forward in whatever ways they see fit. It has to start somewhere. Who knows what will come of this gift in the future?
@Peter Cheng - auto loans, mortgage loans, real estate loans etc. etc. Whether it's students or non-students, some entity or entities are getting rich off of loans....that's capitalism at work. What's your point??
Generous but wrong approach. What message did this act send to those students who worked and made sacrifices to pay off their debt? And with young, impressionable minds, do they expect there will be that "rich uncle" to pay off any financial debt they incur? Mr. Smith was kind but he should have considered another avenue for his generosity. His gesture was very popular with this class but I suspect not so with the previous graduates. Now, did this set up a precedent with subsequent graduating classes will expect the same gesture? How popular will Mr. Smith be if he does not deliver?
GOD'S CONTINUOUS BLESSINGS ON YOU, MR. ROBERT F. SMITH! You have forever changed the trajectory for generations of African Americans past (parents, grandparents who took out loans to help), present (the Morehouse graduates) and future (children of the graduates and EVERYONE the graduates "pay it forward" helping in the future). WOW. Now, what is Michael Jordan doing????
Many are doing it too, he belongs to a group started by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett who pledge to give most of their fortune away before they die
Class of 2018 gonna be pissed
Betsy DeVos.....is gonna have a heart attack!! 😂🤣😅
College of non historically black gonna be pissed
Heck Yeah we pissed!!!!
What about Class of 2020?
No the Sista's gonna give a piece of their minds.

Wow, that has made my morning. It's nice to see the 1% do their share.
They do their share, but just like you just said, it’s not seen and most don’t hear about it.

This is incredible. This man is trully a blessing.
The reaction was underwhelming for such a generous, amazing and surprising proclamation. I'd have lost my mind.
That’s a true giving forward moment !
