If all of Andy's toys remember him, and Jesse remembers Emily, then why doesn't Woody remember his previous owner, which was Andy's dad? I think I have a pretty good answer, so let me know what you think, then we'll see if there are any new clue in Toy Story 4!

Another theory is that Andy and his dad shared the same name, so Woody was always Andy toy, and being a toy never realized that he was past down from Andy senior to Andy junior, so to Woody he was still being played with by the same kid.

And Andy’s father kept Woody away for a long time. So he doesn’t know his previous owner died and he thinks Andy is Andy’s dad. This is true, A friend of the director of Toy Story, named Mike Mozart, The director told him when they had lunch.

No, the show was cancelled "once the astronauts went up", and Pete referenced Sputnik, not the moon landing. And in TS 4 (I know this vid was made before it came out, but), Woody says he was manufactured in the 50s, not the 60s.
I had glasses as a kid and still have glasses to this day. I played outside with them on. I hiked trails them on. I go outside today with glasses on for plant identification and botany research. I feel your pain. The kid with glasses stereotype needs to die or be updated. I still love your videos. Sending blessings.

According to the SuperCarlinBrothers theory, Woody was left in the toy box for a long period of time so he thinks Andy is Andy's dad given they have the same first name.

A story that I watched on youtube is that Andy's dad opened the box then died but Woody remember Andy's dad but they look so alike so he doesn't know that his real owner died.
I also like what Mike Mozart said in a Super Carlin Brothers video about how Andy's dad was sickly due to Polio, and as such, he put several of his toys in a chest, so for Woody, Potato Head, and Slinky, they never knew Andy's dad and Andy were different people.

Maybe because they get activated by their owners, when the owners die, they lose all memory of them. Jessie seemed to have spontaneously gotten over her fear of small spaces between toy story 2 and 3; maybe Emily died during that time and Jessie forgot all about her, and thus had no real reason to feel trauma.
Alternatively, it's possible that, as an owner plays with them, they "imprint" themselves into their toy. And their "imprints" slowly override the imprints of previous owners, effectively erasing their memory of them. In Toy Story 4, Woody specifically never got over Andy because he wasn't played with as often as the others, thus Bonnie didn't "imprint" on him enough to replace Andy's "imprint," making Woody still feel like he belongs to Andy.

Woody is the only prototype from a giveaway that got cancelled when the astronauts went up, also I like both Woody and Buzz especially when they canonically fought the "masked intruders" at Galaxy Toys.
No that's almost impossible for many reasons. My next Toy Story video is debunking that prototype theory. I collect toys and there is a much more sensible answer that does make sense, so I hope you'll tune in in about 10 days to see that video. 😊

Just watched Toy Story 2 yesterday (and the day before... and last week (I have small children), but Stinky Pete says Woody’s Roundup was cancelled when Sputnik went up, not the Moon landing.

My theory is that Andy’s dad worked at pizza planet then he got fired and became a cop but then he got fired for that to due to he was doing bad things then Andy’s dad became a drunk and also became a criminal but he still cared about his kids then one day Andy’s dad was drunk and robbed a gas station and killed the worker/owner of the gas station that Andy’s dad robbed and then he went to federal prison for every single crime he committed and then he got a life sentence for 11,400 years in federal prison for murder robbery tax invasion and may more other crimes then Andy’s mom divorced Andy’s dad and then Andy’s mom told Andy and Molly that there dad was a good guy and they believed her even tho she was lying but Andy’s dad gave all of his childhood toys to Andy before all this stuff happened but the first 6 months of Andy’s dad being in federal prison Andy’s dad died in federal prison due to someone murdered Andy’s dad due to all the crimes he committed due to the guy that killed Andy’s dad found out all of the crimes Andy’s dad committed but Andy’s dad’s toys aka Andys toys did not remember Andy’s dad due to they looked kinda the same and Andy’s mom did not take down the pictures of Andy’s dad due to Andy’s mom still kinda loved Andy’s dad but she took Andy’s dad pictures down when they moved but then one day Andy gives away all his toys to Bonnie and Andy plays with his toys for one last time and then Andy leaves for college until he runs into Bonnie and Bonnie’s parents again and he gets all of his toys back I hope that happens in Toy Story 5 but that’s just a theory a film theory and that’s the end of my story theory…

i don't think this makes sense, when you consider the Prospector has memories (enough to remember the moon landing and the surge of 'space toys'), and he was always kept in his box. Still doesn't explain Woody being activated or not, if the same doesn't fly with the Prospector.

My parents Bought me the 2000 Barbie doll and this odd birthday Barbie doll. I had them since I was little but was never allowed to open them. Still in their box till this day.

Interesting theory
Woody wasn’t bought he was won in a raffle. Andy’s dad won the raffle. The raffle was if you collects a certain amount of like boxtops you can be entered to win a sherif woody doll. It was a cereal box. Andy’s dad didn’t have all the boxtops needed for the cereal. So he wrote a note saying his family wasn’t really wealthy and he decorated the note so it stands out. Andys dad won the raffle then received the sheriff woody doll in the mail. Woody is one of a kind doll only one has been produced.

Yeah I've heard this "polio" idea in the comments too. Unless Andy's dad had spent time in Pakistan, Afghanistan, or Nigeria, it's extremely unlikely that he'd have gotten Polio. We wiped the majority of Polio out in the US around World War II.

it's Possible that Woody had many owners before Andy, one of them Didn't give him any true Love and use him as the Punching Bag which can Explain why He was so Paranoyed with not being the Favourite anymore, the Last one Thew him away But was found by a Daycare Manager and taken there, Woody spent the Rest of he's Life there with out a True owner and This can also Explain Why He describes Daycares as Sad and Lonley, He was later Found by Andy and Taken him home, After Spending enough Time Together, he quickly Became Andy's Favourite, As noted By Mr. Potato Head.

Personally, I was nerdy, non-athletic, bookish, and not bespectacled. But, for whatever reason, I always liked the look of glasses. Both my parents wore glasses. Also, my wife, when we first met, wore contacts, but after we started dating, she changed to her glasses. Now that I am old, I wear readers.
Oh yeah, and I'm team Buzz. I liked the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command show. And I'm a diehard space and scifi nerd.

Woody's Roundup got canceled because of Sputnik's launch, not the Moon landing. It was in 1957. Pete clearly states so, there was no word about the Moon Landing.

What about the Prospector? He is "mint in the box" yet is able to be "alive." He clearly does not have the same voice as his character in the show and does not act like that character either. While Woody and Jessie do have their show voices and are happy like their show counterparts. The Buzz Lightyear aisle does confirm that toys are "asleep" until opened. Was the Prospector carefully opened by someone who thought he deserved better? Does this also explain how he knows how to carefully remove himself from his box? If toys can not come to life without being opened-if they are boxed- then wouldn't Jessie had freaked out that he was able to move and talk? It's a mystery!

@@TheFangirlWatches Thanks for replying! I rewatched the 'How do toys come alive?' video and they were mentioned more in that one. If someone did pick up the Prospector's box to purchase him and then decided to put him back on the shelf, that was the simple act that brought him to life, right? But, if so, if Andy's dad ever held Woody's box then that should have 'activated' him too. It makes the Prospector's story even sadder because he got to be brought to life but then never opened. Makes Jessie sound kinda whiny, and her story was perceived as very sad to Woody and the audience. Yet, no sympathy is shown towards the Prospector. Like wait a sec, you're alive but not opened, gee sorry buddy. But, in this video you did say, Woody's mind never got activated to life since he was never unboxed. So, does that mean, the Prospector was activated to life by almost being bought and then realized being stuck in a box sucks, so he himself figures out a way to open his box while also keeping it in mint condition- or else Al definitely would not want him-? Theories are fun! I enjoy your channel!
**Edited to add: Jessie does excitedly tell Woody the Prospector is mint in the box, never opened. So it's not sad at all to toys if they are brought to life and never played with by a child? Yet, being played with is their life's desire? His story just seems odd.
