To clarify the note to the foreign audience about the 37 candidates who were murdered, they weren't running for president but various other positions like town mayors and officers. All parties got hit with a lot of violence, mostly in the states of Guerrero, Chiapas, Morelos, Michoacán, Jalisco, State of Mexico, Puebla and Oaxaca; it seems drug lords don't want any kind of government to interfere with their "business" or have more power than them.
