I remember hearing this magnificent organ when I was little (am now 76). My Dad would take me to Wanamakers regularly to shop, eat and just listen to the music. What a special treat it is to once again reminisce and experience this special instrument and the music it produces. Thank you!

Bravi! I am so thankful I was back home the weekend this event was taking place. I was so surprised when I walked into the Macy's and saw I was here during organ week, I could barely contain my joy. I have heard some stellar performers, incredible music and exuberant audience members. Thank you Macy's, thank you Friends of the Wanamaker Organ and all those who put this event on each year. This is the first year I was back in Philly during the event, so it was truly a joy. I worked at Wanamaker's as a youth just below the organ and in the candy department and loved hearing the noon time concerts and of course the holiday spectacular during Christmas. This organ was the sound track of my youth and to hear her in all her glory this weekend filled my soul! I am currently returning to Michigan with a renewed spirit.

This concert series should be one that encourages a lot of people to return to this place. The Organ Temple . A beautiful instrument now pretty much restored standing as a magnificent example of what a real pipe organ should and can be.

I am so pleased to hear you mention Keith Chapman. I was so fortunate to have met him and his wife at Wanamaker's. I was introduced to him by a dear friend Lowell Ayers and his wife Reba. Sadly...there aren't many of us left. This organ is an international treasure! Thankfully...Macy's has chosen to keep it alive and well. Thank you.

@BVale I am so pleased that there is someone else in the world who recognized his talent! His passion for this instrument was evident in his playing! Thank you!

BRAVO ! Love the magnificent performances & the video replay here on You Tube. So sorry I wasn't able to attend this performance for 2021 . I've attended every annual Wanamaker Day & Evening ticked Live concert performance. Sorry I wasn't able to attend the 2021 W Day & evening performance . Catching up on much needed rest - as a HealthCare Worker has been very challenging for me . Already looking forward to the next season's Wanamaker Day & evening performances. In the meantime I'll be using my new BOSE headphones to capture the full sound spectrum of the Wanamaker organ. This is the best I could do for now. Being there live is even Better * ..

This organ has such a magnificent sound, it seems to stir one's soul. I'm sure hearing the organ in person would have me in awe. I'm glad it has been preserved and watched over. I would say it is a National Treasure indeed.

Fantastic concert! Please put more up on RUclips for those of us who can't get down to Philly as often as we'd like.
Also, Rudy's playing is typical Rudy - beautiful musicianship, colors, and phrasing, all without looking up at the score on the rack nearly at all 🙂. I think it's there for decoration!

At 38:00 you can clearly see the "jelly effect" the low bass has on the video recorder. When the music stops the picture stabilises.

A wonderful demonstration of an iconic instrument; thank you. It would be so interesting to know (roughly!) which stops were being featured. For example the lovely flutes in the Karg-Elert.

Than you so much for this high quality recording including the interviews as I wasn't able to attend in person this year. Was the late afternoon concert also recorded?

@BostonHarborLight All concerts are recorded for archival purposes. Getting them posted online involves a lot of coordination of companies, organizations and artists, so that's why so few actually make it online.

What a joy to hear [48:14] "Scherzette" (a.k.a. Whirligig) by Dana Suesse, whose first concerts (1920) were performed on pipe organ.
