Not only is your playing badass, but insightful too. Not many people show the actual process of playing as well as they do. It’s really cool to see that. Seeing someone at your level struggle is a pleasant reminder that *nobody* is perfect.
I love that you threw that "1000 takes for a 30 sec clip" tid bit in there. A lot of people dont understand that it actually isnt the norm to play things perfectly lmfao
It is very easy to see these guys on youtube and think wow some people are just somehow better musicians, but you don't see anything except the end product. That can be very misleading! Though, you can see some examples of truly amazing and skilled live performers on technical pieces as well so eh you know hah
musicians are the most perfectionist people out there, because if something doesn't look perfect we don't tend to notch or care much but when it comes to sound and music we notch this much quicker. so the artist gets this even worst because they know a song better then anyone else, that's why guitarists get so invested in their tones and doing so many takes. because when they notch something is slightly off they can't ignore it
On one hand, I totally agree that it's not the norm to play everything perfectly, and it's great to see the real and human side of it. On the other hand, _live classical performances..._
Fun fact my training regiment every day is literally picking one of ur vids and spending a week to learn it until full speed. Ive been doing it for a month and it’s been definitely teaching me patience but I also find myself being able to play for a lot longer span of time now. This is why I love you
I tried to do the same with another guy when I started out, now it's been a year, and all I know no theory and can only play songs I have tabs for, lol.
Very good analogies. Playing Dark Souls / Bloodborne has slowly helped me understand my music better - super tough bosses and levels, seemingly insurmountable, but you keep going. One day, it clicks - you have no idea why, or how, but you did it. Roll forward to the next time you fight that boss: you slaughter them, and then you understand what you did right and wrong Each time you enter that arena, you will improve, even if it’s just because they turn you into a pulp - the bloody pulp that used to be you will teach you what not to do - even subconsciously. And unlike dark souls, guitar doesn’t have dodgy hitboxes.
Glad to see someone else who looks at practicing irl like grinding in a game I've got the same mindset tbh Years ago I used to play lots of time consuming Jrpgs(namely the disgaea franchise) and then one day I realized that instead of farming stuff in a game which will have no real life impact whatsoever , I'd rather use that time at improving myself instead It's really like leveling up a character but it is yourself you're leveling up lol
I realized it's a lot like lifting weights; find shit you suck at, get better/stronger at them, and now you are overall physically better and more well-rounded. Most people aren't jacked because it takes years of going to the gym 4-5 days a week and putting in hard work, big emphasis on the hard work. Going to the gym/picking up your guitar is just the first step to getting better. Many go to the gym for 5+ years but never get anywhere because they don't understand how to train or they just mess around. Same with guitar, I've been "playing" for 12yrs and am absolute garbage for how long I've owned guitars because I didn't understand how to actually practice and grind. I've improved more over the last 3 months than I have in the last 8yrs. Consistency and execution with intent, that's the secret to getting better at just about anything.
No joke, you've really inspired how I've started writing metal riffs or riffs in general. Whenever I'm hooked to a music style, I try and incorporate it in some way to make new riffs, just as learning process. Currently, your style of writing is just making me so happy and amazed!
Same here. I got a 7 string guitar thinking it would be the coolest thing ever, then I realized how much I DIDN'T know about playing. This channel really helped me with my practice.
This is probably the shortest and the most inspiring motivational video I've ever watched. Thank you for putting this out and showing us that even the greatest musicians can't record everything with one or two takes. I quit playing guitar for a long time as I had a lot going on in my life... But a while ago I realized again that music is my passion. Now I play and practice actively but I feel like I'm much worse than I should be. So yeah, this is inspiring me as I can relate to the feeling that in social media everyone is better and the stuff you said about playing video games and farming/grinding in real life instead. Thank you!
I struggled a lot with tracking music cause it would always take me a ton of takes to get it just right. I would mess something up, and stop and start the take over, but what really helped me get better was finishing the whole take even if I messed it up, and THEN starting over. otherwise I'd only be practicing bits at a time, it's just another part of discipline
Great messages and tips in this video. We always hear about “mistakes are part of the process”, but we don't see our idols or people who inspire us making these mistakes on social media. Everything is so perfect and always perfect. The process of training and studying in general is a lonely path, and more messages like yours make it more human and realistic. :)
looping in a DAW (i use ableton) might help speed up your workflow instead of stopping/starting. love the text in the new videos! especially the ones explaining what you're thinking/playing
Very cool tip actually! A lot of times we rely on motivation, but motivation can come and go, while discipline stays with you, I feel like that's very important to be able to do things consistently and not abandoning it
Yo my man. Thank you. I feel as though whenever I scroll through RUclips (which is mostly insane guitar stuff on my feed, Tim Henson, Abasi etc.) I feel as though I’m just so bad at guitar. And watching those and then trying to practice afterwards is so unmotivating, I also get distracted easily and I end up jamming and for hours on the stuff that already sounds good rather than learning what I need to work on. But this video helped me man truly, we’ve just got to put all the distractions and entertainment away, and grind. Learning and sick solo for the first time or a new technique on guitar will always be so much cooler, more rewarding and productive than any video game or anime. I’m gonna start to really focus on what I need to work on and become a great guitar player. I thank you for this video man I truly was smiling as I was watching and I felt inspired. If I can be as half as good as a guitar player as you are one day I’ll know I’ve made it. (Maybe I’ll come back to this one day and edit it with how far I’ve come, just to manifest and put it in writing :). I’m learning the solo for Stairway to Heaven now and I’m about 15% in.)
i've been struggling to practice due to work and mental illness but watching your videos gives me that little confidence boost i need to start practicing again :) keep up the great work bro!
Great topic! Not very many videos on RUclips about how to practice with guitar, so I definitely appreciate it! Would love to see other videos like this on insights of you playing.
I like the way he put it out there about reminding people who look up to him and other channels that it could be half a day worth of takes to record one tiny video for u. But people starting out might seem to think that these players on social media can just pick up a guitar n nail something 100%. It’s really helpful and healthy for aspiring players following people to realise what they r watching that looks n sounds perfect did not happen in the 30 second clip they watched, it was thought about n practised for many days, n there is probably 50 takes before u see the “perfect” one u watch on social media. A lot of kids out there probably don’t even realise they too would look “perfect” if they thought of something n practiced it, then spent half a day taking takes of it.
Seeing the fails was really refreshing honestly, you’re 100% right about social media, makes everyone out to be a god but you only hear the 1 good take of thousands
This was very eyeopening in a great way. I've been really wanting to get better at guitar, but it's one of those things where everyone online seems waaaay better than me, and it's both super inspiring and demotivating depending on my mood. It's relatable to see that someone as great as you is still going through that grind and everlasting retakes too. Keep up the great work! You've been a huge inspiration to me!
Massive respect to you mate. I’ve been playing for about 7 years and am really feeling the plateau. Like I know I’ve got better I’m actually recording some of my shit. And it’s good in my opinion. But I’ve so many ingrained mistakes that feels like I’ve ruined it for myself. Constantly missing strings, accidentally muting cords. And don’t get me started on my over use of extremely basic cords. And also not know pentatonics. But this really inspires me to knuckle down and actually try now. So thanks. You probably won’t read this. But just know if you do see it. You have genuinely helped me. Cheers. Adam
I needed to see this video today. Really inspirational. I unfortunately can't practice in the mornings too often because I have a job on the weekdays lol but I will try to apply this logic when I get home from work and try to practice in the mornings on weekends.
Really cool meditations on discipline and skill building man. I like how you used contemporary examples to make your points, it makes them relatable. I feel like this advice can be used for more than just practice motivation as well.
thank you for putting this out there. ive struggled so hard to play and practice but your writing style is exactly the type of songwriting i find exciting and it makes me want to pick my guitar up again. but it feels like your level is lightyears from mine and it looks so easy. this made everything seem more attainable
ngl, I follow Scarra on twitch, and he did a couple years of streaming every single day. And he had pretty much the same approach: rely on discipline rather than motivation or emotions. You two are both very inspiring!
hey man... i know you're probably not gonna see this, but thanks for being one of my early inspirations and motives to play guitar. I appreciate it truly. Its been a year now and im very satisified with my skill. THANK YOU
I really needed this, you are right about the concept of having a discipline. I thought I'm the only who is distracted instead of actually "grinding real"
Nice to see that kind of video, because it is a nice reminder that all that perfect shit in social media actually looks like you showed here before it is uploaded.
You're a huge inspiration man! U inspire me to play all the time, now I play everyday as well but you make me want to do it more, inspire me to play different kind of things, your technique is so good. Much respect🙏.

You’re so talented and authentic and keeping it real You gave me a lot of inspiration today with this one , Thank you for sharing your musical journey with us .
Appreciate the insight - the ideal is to only compare your playing to yourself yesterday but I find that very hard, I have clips from when I first started playing guitar so if I feel like I'm useless on a bad day I will look back on those to put things into perspective.
Just made this video reach 1k ! I rarely comment on yt videos but i have to say that this was motivating. I'm a bass beginner and i found your video very inspiring for my journey. Thank you for sharing!
Dude, thank you. You have a pretty clean and good technique, and this video is more motivational than It seems. Is really nice to see that an amazing guitarist like you doing different takes, showing your mistakes and share your "schedule and rules" on how to practice. Even that moment when you rage quit. I think is pretty important to show and share this kind of stuff, because many players, me included, when we see a video or a lesson It seems like the Guy is flawless, and most of times is not true, unless you are Guthrie Govan hahahahaha. Thanks for sharing, for your honesty and your cheers!!!
Thanks for your transparency. I needed that as a struggling player myself. I feel like no one talks about it as it's not the "macho" thing to do. Thanks though this video helped! Rock on!
That's great advice. Gonna start practicing in the morning now. You're an amazing player and I thought I was the only one who messed up take after take even though I play it so perfectly before hitting the record button lol. This video may be showcasing your mistakes, but to me it just shows how much effort you put into what you do. Keep on shredding man. Your videos are inspiring.
Everything is so true, Sebas. I took away a break from social media (especially fb) because I was so frustrated at guitar, everything is too perfect there that is unreal. Also, you spend a lot of time reading literally useless garbage. I love your content buddy, glad to had the opportunity to know you and see you playing live.
The thought about video games really resonated with me, as I think the exact same way. Quit Word of Warcraft about 3 weeks ago, since then I've learned Little Wing and Slow Dancing. Next I'm Castles Made of Sand.
Good effort! This video does a great job of showing how much time and effort it takes to become really good at playing an instrument. However, it is also extremely rewarding when you can do something that you couldn't do before.
Thank you for this video mate! It always great to see this type of content, which shows how honest you are. Simply amazing, Keep up the good work and Keep Rocking!!
Rare courage there, i see you as a better social media player and watching your videos sometimes dents my ego but watching you being human here is respectable. Fairplay sebastide 👊 Im on the shred journey, its rough but if your interested the channel is - Vigilax.
Thanks for this great video! It makes a lot of sense, putting that same energy/time to watch any series or games, but better to put it into guitar, thanks for the advice. I think a lot of us really needed it. All the points you made, are just right, make total sense. Anyway I really like the way you play, I'm not into that much into metal lately, but your riffs blow my mind, extremely cool.
Awesome insights! So many take a ways...and takes! LOL Thank you for your honesty and straightforwardness. It makes me wanna pick up my guitar and try again. -=80)
One thing that sometimes feels overlooked is how a lot of things in life are repetitious. You can be a musician, artist, animator, video producer, etc. but there will always be an element of repetition. Musicians always play the same few measures over and over until muscle memory kicks in. Artists always redraw the same lines until they make one that satisfies them. Animators always recreate existing frames until movement can be interpreted the way they want. Video producers constantly add cuts, splices and keyframes to make their work presentable. Almost no matter what it is, you have to get over repetition, and usually it's either the strive to get better or the fun you have with it that keep you doing that same thing.
yep when finger are not tired they are more explosive and energetic, hard stuff first. muscle fatigue memory fatigue ect as two violon set explain. practice practice practice practice practice practice practice then practice more
I deeply appreciate this video. All the time on youtube and elsewhere, it is so easy to be reminded how much you suck. This hits me especially because I have only been learning guitar since early last year and though I can play some things, my ear and ability to write music is horrible and makes me angry everyday that I cannot make anything sound good.
Really interesting video, showing the process behind the final video is really helpful. I really like your style, it is unique and you have your own voice. Thank you for being inspiring and keep on the great work!
This is an interesting and good point of wiew. a routine consinstely helps keep improving and do better. every day a try to stay away from ps4, but i want to dedicate some time even there. I try avoid senseless screen watching and do something. Thanks this video is so great!!🤘🖤
I can feel that ragequit at 2:35 man. The SPEED I can; unplug the guitar / as the cord falls the to the ground I switch off my thr10x and horizon drive. and walk await. I feel thy great sire. bonne chance!
When my friends ask me to record something to show them my guitar learning progress, I have to re-record it dozens of times that I just end up playing it better by the end of it XD
Great tips when time is no obstacle, not gonna lie, I laughed out in frustration to the practice before the day. As my son wakes up before 6 and I am not a morning person to begin with :D I guess it's just bearing the storm until the calm for me.
I remember doing a take for a riff I did it was 17 seconds and it took me over 4 hours to record a good take. That rage quit was something i felt spiritually😂 it sucks but just gotta power through it
This is great to show bros reality so dudes don't think ur perfect and think this is just easy for you and don't realize they can do it to it too!! I haven't practiced since 1987 when I had about 5 lessons at the guitar shop and used the tape out of our answering machine to record myself cuz teacher said so!
"The rewards of grinding real life are better anyway." That is what I figured out some time ago and it's my mindset now.
I figured it out too, but can't make it my mindset, haha

You are awesome. Super clean.
Thx a lot, i kind of stopped practicing after a while but this helped me out
That was a motivation booster I needed right now. I have to show that to some friends as well!
Yeah dude you Rock 🤘
I need to practice more!!
Thanks for your work..Keep going on..greetings from germany
Awesome insights! So many take a ways...and takes! LOL Thank you for your honesty and straightforwardness. It makes me wanna pick up my guitar and try again. -=80)
This is a fantastic video, thank you.
Almost no matter what it is, you have to get over repetition, and usually it's either the strive to get better or the fun you have with it that keep you doing that same thing.
yep when finger are not tired they are more explosive and energetic, hard stuff first.
muscle fatigue memory fatigue ect
as two violon set explain. practice practice practice practice practice practice practice then practice more
Came for the music, stayed for the life advice.
You're amazing man! this video was all i needed!
this is a great video. it’s nice to see that we’re in the same boat, even with people like you who are very good
I deeply appreciate this video.
Thanks this video is so great!!🤘🖤
Your journey hits home man. Couldn't agree more. 🤘🦖
Very nice ideas!!
Wow , I am really happy that I subscribed to your channel. Hoping, for more content like this.
"I bought my first cell phone 3 months ago because it was cheaper than a camera."
Had to subscribe.
I can feel that ragequit at 2:35 man.
The SPEED I can; unplug the guitar / as the cord falls the to the ground I switch off my thr10x and horizon drive.
and walk await.
I feel thy great sire. bonne chance!
This video is amazing, thank you
This is exactly what I needed to start my day. Thank you for this! I'm gonna go work on my arpeggios now.
When my friends ask me to record something to show them my guitar learning progress, I have to re-record it dozens of times that I just end up playing it better by the end of it XD
Great video thanks
You're a gem for this, thank you ❤
I always procrastinate but thanks for this man!
This is incredibly helpful, thanks!
You have really beautiful instruments.
I literally watched this while afk on Genshin, guess it's time to put more time on my practice! :D thanks!
I met you 10 minutes ago and now I love you lol. You are insane man
This channel is going good
Great tips when time is no obstacle, not gonna lie, I laughed out in frustration to the practice before the day.
