    Thanks man! Very fair and thoughtful, and you make it sound great. It’s funny - I also prefer the look of a pick guard, but after I pulled one off of a guitar I used to have and heard the difference, I decided that for this, the ethos of “get rid of all tone sucking items” meant it had to go. And yeah! Here’s hoping more brands get hip to low profile passive pickups.

    OMG, can't believe you did a review of this guitar. I got mine the first week of July. I posted an unboxing video and subsequently a full review. I love this guitar. I have two Martins (J40 &D35) and a Gibson J45. This is not that caliber but how many are? That said, this is my go to gigging guitar. I have had at least six of seven people come up to me after gigs and say "wow your guitar sounded great". It's uncanny how many people have made that comment. The passive pick up is just fine. I love this guitar. I already said that. I would highly recommend this instrument. The gig bag is very minimal but it works. It's light and responsive. Easy to transport and at this price point your don't have to worry about getting a ding here or there. Thanks for doing this review!!!!

    Poly finishes ain’t the problem. The problem is too many factories don’t know how to apply it on an acoustic guitar. You gave the Yamaha ll16 a great review and they are poly coated and I agree they sound great with tons of resonance and articulation with plenty of bottom end. I own the mahogany version and to be honest I prefer acoustics with poly finish if done right as it gives acoustics a more focused articulate punchy tone. I can’t stand the tone of acoustics bare naked or satin finished no matter how resonant they are because everything sounds and feels too open and floppy for my taste and they generally lack sparkle in the highs

  • @ratwynd
    @ratwynd Год назад +1

    Got my first satin finish guitar a couple of years ago, a D16e. Traded later for an OMC16e in Ovangkol also satin back and sides.
    Much less prone to show button and buckle marks, etc. The glossy top shows every fingerprint.
    This OMC16e is my favorite of all my acoustics, even some much more expensive. The Ovangkol has a tone and appearance similar to Koa. Balanced, without a midrange scoop like a lot of rosewood 'dreads. The cutaway has been a real benefit as well. Allows a lot more range on the 'board for higher notes and chords.

    Great stuff as always, Jeremy!
    I saw Josh’s videos on this guitar and it looks very impressive. I wish I could actually play one but I don’t believe any stores stock them (I may be wrong about this).
    I’d be curious to hear that next to the Walden O550E which has similar specs. I did put Gotoh Large Schaller style tuners on mine but at less than $500 for the Walden (brand new) it was worth it!
    The Walden is OM w/ solid spruce top, low mass bracing, and layered mahogany back and sides. Open pore finish, but has active electronics with a lot of features (which I prefer because it works out better for most giggling situations).
    But the reason I’d love to see the comparison is because I would be curious to see how the Walden holds up to Josh’s guitar in a side to side comparison.
    You should ask Jonathan Lee to send you one to compare before selling the Josh Turner guitar (which I think sounds amazing!!).

    Jeremy, thank you for your videos.
    I’m an old guy, owned so many guitars over 60 years. You are absolutely correct when you describe differences in $1500-$2000 guitars verses the sub $1000 guitar market.
    I own four nicely made American guitars and each has a different , great sound. A Martin 00015sm, 0015 custom shop, a Breedlove Legacy and a Breedlove Oregon limited edition . But I also have 4 sub $1000 guitars that I truly enjoy as well. Definitely lesser sound and quality but good guitars for general playing. My sub $1000 in this size are Eastman and Alvarez. Very hard to choose between guitars in this category. But I hate the cheap rosettes! I like the soft finishes.
    Thank you again. Great work.

    Very interesting comments. Personally I always thought there was something that I did not like about the brand, and could never put my finger on it. So I went to a shop that happened to have 4 or 5 different models of that brand, both electric and acoustic. I put my finger in an f-hole on an electric and slid it along the inside of the top. Very rough feel! Needed sanding before assembly. I thought that was pretty basic when some other models were as smooth as glass inside. That is inconsistent, in my opinion, and my impression sunk!! I would recommend a Yamaha before this!

    So had this guitar 2 months now and for fingerstyle it is superb ,the top end is particularily clear and rounded and comes though so well. I find the base a little weak for strumming and pick style but for fingerstyle ok as i dont want it to loud as i have a bit of a heavy thumb. I love the simple looks of it..just right..the grovers are superb best tuners about so easy to tune. I like the way it is set up properly by the maker most guitars are not the action is just right, intonation perfect a couple of shims should you want to raise the action. So josh this is a great guitar well worth the money and really easy to play..i think the wider neck width has alot to do with it . About to fit new strings the ones on are nice but i will fit martins this time just to compare really. Keep on picking come to the uk soon😊

    Jeremy, I think you might be best suited to answer a question for me - I've been obsessing over getting this guitar, and considering there's not much out there about it, this video has been so helpful. One of the most attractive things for me is how resonant and responsive it's supposed to be with the thin top. I'm also considering the Eastman OM line - how do you think they compare to the JT Tammany?
    It's challenging because the D'Angelico isn't available to try at dealers, and there's a hefty 15% restocking fee for returns.

    • @JeremySheppard
      @JeremySheppard  Месяц назад +1

      Both would be good but I’d recommend the Eastman because it’s all solid at the same price. The E1 OM or E2 OM are great and lively.

    • @dstatman1
      @dstatman1 Месяц назад

      @JeremySheppard much appreciated! I love the minimal ethos of the Josh Turner, especially the barely there finish. It's biased me for gloss finishes, thinking they won't vibrate as much. For the Eastman's, there's a E8OM on sale near me for $999, and I'm also thinking about going higher up their line, (e.g., E60 OM or E20 OM)

      Everything is a trade off. If you can save money on the back and sides and spend that instead on a thinner top with less bracing you're going to have a better sounding guitar overall.
      With budget guitars you can't really just read specs off the sheet to compare, you need to play them head to head cause the build qualifies are so variable.

    Just another cheap Asian guitar with a different name slapped on it. They are very common ranging from $250 to $800. Go play a few of them and buy the cheapest good sounding one. Forget the name on the headstock. Are they good guitars? I’m sure they are. Japan, Korea, Indonesia, and China are producing some great guitars for a great price. Like I said, forget the name on the headstock, and go play a bunch of them in your price range, and pick out the one that sounds the best.
    By the way, poly finishes do not hurt the sound of a guitar. It funny this guy wants a pick guard on his guitar, but claims poly finish hurt the sound. If a thick piece of plastic glued to the top of your sound board, doesn’t hurt the sound, a thin poly finish certainly wouldn’t. The finishes are cosmetic, and protection, if it sounds good to you. looks good to you, and it’s in your price range buy it.
