Hello all, I'm the presenter/producer on this piece, and apologies for annoying so many of you! Indicators - yup, annoys me too, but filming, talking, riding, I occasionally forget the basics. As for the 'daft' inclusion of Transalp - well, what you don't see here is the studio discussion segment of the programme - a price reduction in South Africa meant they were temporarily the same price. All your comments are right, and we addressed them in the subsequent studio discussion...

Nc700x can go on dirt roads, sand, gravel and single track. Only concern is clearance and large rocks. That was silly that he stopped at the end of the Tarmac

I've had this bike for a month now and have done 1500 km.
I've taken i thru' forests, gravelroads even a short stretch on the beach.
Never had a bike with ABS before - it's helpful on all of the above road surfaces.
If you drive it rough it'll give you 75 - 80 mpg - if you drive it real gentle I managed to push it just above 100 mpg. Im averaging about 85.
I tried the TransAlp before deciding on the NCX. The NCX is so much more relaxed.
When test driving it. Give it some time It grows on you

I have just bought a 2012 model with 13,000 miles on it. Honestly this bike is amazing! It’s the best by far commuter! So comfortable! The trunk is an absolute god send! I love it, the bike goes too! It’s not slow compared to cars! Just a fantastic bit of kit

i thing they forgot to mention is that the NC700X comes with an automatic gearbox as well, and i love the little tank storage for your helmet

  • @martinbailey4736

I have NC700X and love it and averaging 77 miles to gallon. Tried Transalp and seat more comfortable but they stop building it this year I heard and it may have bigger tank but only 5 gears and much poorer fuel consumption. I think range is better on NC700X. With NC700X you get up to date tech, very agile, deceptively quick with full go from low revs. Short shift and it is very nimble and great fun. Sure, if you want to go off road then get a bike designed for that purpose.

I enjoyed this review until it suggested the XL700V Transalp is an outright superior bike, without any counter argument. Honda claims 55.5mpg (in UK measurements) for the Transalp, 78.2mpg for the NC700X. An important consideration for the money-minded commuter. The Transalp doesn't have internal storage. If you are into that sort of the thing, the DCT is only offered on the NC700X. I don't think tradeoffs like that were fairly explored. Something to consider for future videos.

Bought one yesterday and took to work in New York City today. Best purchase I ever made. One thing that I did not expect was the rev limiter. That was a real kick in the chest on an on ramp. My advice when you get it home is see what the limiter is like before you need it to dodge a dump truck, like I did. Nothin to say don't buy the bike, jsut be aware.

Had my NC700X for just over a year now (2nd owner). Love the bike and it is superb as a commuter and odd day ride into the country. Amazing fuel economy...regular monitoring shows 2,9-3,1 litres per 100 km / about 34-35 km per litre! Not a high speed performer but good for 170-180 kph....fast enough for me. Only gripe is the front brake tends to grab at low speeds.

Excellent review, think this might be my next bike when I finish university. They go for around $12,500 in NZ which is a heck of a lot cheaper than anything else in the 600cc and over market

The Transalp guy obviously never tried the NC700X.. he's full of it. I love the Transalp for what it is, but I'd buy the 700X between the two even if the 700X was the one that was more expensive. It clicks all of my buttons.

Nice honest review I think, thanks. I am thinking of replacing my Kawasaki W400 with a NC700 (X or S, not yet decided). I am doing my big license course now on the Honda NC750L, a very similar bike to the NC700S. Yes, it is a budget bike, and that is because it comes at such a low price, beating all comers in its niche and especially so here in Japan, where I can get a brand new NC700X (LD model) for 550,000 Yen. Add a 100,000 Yen for engine guards, higher screen, hand knuckle guards and top box

"Anything" clearly doesn't include getting big miles from a tank of fuel. While I love the Transalp, that bike gets traditionally poor mileage. The NC700X is a game changer.

Would love to see Transalp in USA but it will likely be discontinued before that happens since it's as old. Good thing I got a Tiger 800. I still like the NC700 and I'm glad it accomplishes what it was intended and a low price. I see it being a popular starter bike and competitor for the Versys and V-strom.

put the tires from the Transalp on the NC700 and the NC700 can go off road and go anywhere the Transalp can go.

Transalp is huge and heavy and more thirsty compared to the nc, so i don't compare them really. I am short so i can ride an NC but i can't ride the transalp, especialy in the city...

I can't understand the off road thing, my honda grand astrea does off roading, my scooter does which is a small fake bike, why a nc700x doesn't... It will not be as good as a transalp but definatelly it can go a bit off roading..

transalp have 25% more power not 10% 👌🏻 thats big diffrenc yea i would choice also transalp most likely however nc have some advantage against transalp like for me 1 is max torque which is the same for both 60nm but is lower on rev 4750 vs 6250 rpm + nc have wider tire 120-160 vs 100-130 transalp so it better would swallow bump and other 💩 on road excluding suspension travel and characteristic offcorse beside nc have full rim vs transalp this spokes its naturally cos transalp must be lil more offroad but i more drive on tarmac so nc setup better for me 👌🏻 but yea anyway i would choice transalp better acceleration at similar woeght shorter whelbase 2 front disk similar ergonomics 👍🏻 but new nc 750 x is better for me than t700 😉👌🏻

Look at a map of Africa. At the very south end is a country called "South Africa". The capital is Johannesburg, where the people who made this video say they rode the bike.
The South African money is not the same value as the American Federal Reserve Note. So the numbers are different.
