Stanshall was born in Shillingford Oxfordshire, which is about 5 miles from where I live (although we never met!). He was allegedly as crazy as a barrel full of monkeys. He was big mates with Keith Moon, another nutter. One story I heard was that Stanshall would dress up as a priest and walk down Oxford Street (which is always full of rubberneck tourists). Moon would drive by in his Rolls, stop the car, jump out and proceed to 'beat up' the priest, much to the horror of the various nationals mooching along the pavement (sidewalk to some). Crazy days.

OK, let’s get things straight. There was a real man who was born and called Vivian Stanshall, and who was a member of The Bonzo Dog DooDah Band. He wasn’t played by an actor - he was a real, actual person.
Maybe you’re confusing him with Vivian from The Young Ones on telly, who was played by Adrian Edmondson.

0:36 - On Mick Jagger: "It's a shame he's colored." LMAO! There are lots of other such zingers in these reviews. But don't care for his comments on The Move's great Blackberry Way. I don't think he was just "taking the piss" out of the band, as the English say; I really think he hated the song, and that's one of my very favorite Move songs. To be fair, both Carl Wayne and Trevor Burton of The Move would've agreed with Stanshall: Carl Wayne refused to sing the lead vocal, and guitarist Trevor Burton was so disgusted with the track (although it topped the UK charts) that he left the group shortly afterwards.

I liked the song "Blackberry Way," too, but I love Vivian Stanshall so much that I'm fine with him criticizing the song. In fact, I love that his first thought was that it was the Idle Race, an earlier version of the Move. While I'm on the subject, I liked the Idle Race better than the Move and the Move better than ELO, the reverse order of their commercial success. I also love the Who and play in a Who tribute band, but I love their first three albums the most, just before they really attained commercial success. Start-up companies should hire me to give them advice and do the opposite of what I suggest.

@@jrb4935Paul has the same scar on his lip to this day since his famous ***December 26th 1965 moped accident*** which has naturally changed over a lifetime.*

Placing scars on lips to last a lifetime which changes over time (which it did) is not like putting on a never changing Lego piece.*
*And there is the little matter of your so called lookalike who needed plastic surgery to look more like Paul (according to all the varying logistically impossible fantasies) yet somehow has a son James in 1977 who at 20 years old in 97 has the exact***same droopy eyes, raised eyebrows and exact chin as 1963 Paul***And then when James becomes an older man is now a doppelganger to Paul's brother Michael.*
*James and Stella gets their strawberry blond reddish light features from Linda. Not Vivian Stanshall.*
*How can James look like a disguise? That doesn't even make any sense. Lol*
*As that is what Vivian and Faul are supposed to be. Faul with surgeries and Vivian with strawberry blond reddish wigs and Hollywood prosthetics. Lol (as "William is supposed to most resemble his first characterJack Averill, bahahaha).*
Oh and Paul's ***"Granny"*** music as John liked to call it picks up at times in the 70s. His dad's music hall influences growing up (he even records his dad's only song and gives it to him in the 70's as a present).
His dad at Paul's 1969 small private wedding.
Michael and Paul way in the background going to lunch not even knowing they are in the shot in Get Back
*Paul buying that Scotland farm on June 17, 1966, etc*
      ====
He only got better at bass from 1966 onward because the times and music called for more complicated riffs.
*And you are comparing a baby fat Paul at 22 to a Paul with no baby fat in his mid then to late 20s. Also his style and hair changed as so did the rest of our culture did in 66 onward.*
*And saying Paul is shorter than Faul is borderline simple. Every single photo that these tin foil hat sites bring forward are forced perspective illusion photos which is a natural phenomenon when people are standing beside each other and one is standing slightly in front of each other. Take a photography course sometime as it happens every day*
These tinfoil hat sites prey on the easily fooled and convince them that they are the "critical thinkers" and everyone else are the unthinking sheep.
Do you really think they and all his friends and family are that stupid to call him Billy whenever cameras are around? It's part their dry British humor. But mostly their nickname for him since back in the day when he would sign into hotels and recording sessions as Billy Martin.
You go into these sites and think you are doing research. Go learn about the Beatles. Listen to their music. There is no difference in his voice nor his creative voice and musical ability other than growing exponentially between 1962-1970.

The Viv Stanshall portrayed here is the one and only Billy Shears who played in the pepper pots, He was Billy Pepper, later in a small band called the Beatles , as Sargent Pepper !!!in the Diplomats with Bev Bevan and deny Lane ,later in wings,,,also had a small role playing Paul McCartney for over half a century. This guy is absolutely fantastic in everything he puts his heart and soul into , multi instrumentalist, composer, can copy most vocal styles ,actor , author and all round nice guy .His son james Macartney looks remarkably like Viv as he did in the early70's. ,have a look for yourselves...sounds incredible ,,,,,but it's true ... Read the memoirs of Billy Shears...with an open mind Viv/ Billy/Paul McCartney will explain it to you, everything,,,, it's jaw dropping, shocking, eye opening .... Viv always was using false eyes , he is actually blind in his right eye he wears a prosthesis right eye ,, hats off to him,,,,,,,got to say it again this guy is just Brilliant ...He gave the character of Viv to another chap to take on when Linda became ill .You must surely see that there is quite a difference between them... Graham Nash said that Paul McCartney was never in Wings , yep, because it was Billy Shears aka William Campbell acting as Paul ,,, confused ,yes but because Billy's so accomplished ,he
has fooled us all for over 50 / 60 years ...well done Billy

Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band is one of those bands that I've somehow missed completely. Eventhough I was born in '79, I have long been fascinated with rock from about '57 to '80. But for whatever reason I can't name one song by Bonzo Dog nor do i remember even hearing about them apart from seeing their band name when reading up on other bands from that same era.
Anyone got any suggestions for songs I should check out??
Maybe i'll take a liking to them, always looking for a new hidden gem in the histories of rock.

I was surprised to see Barry Ryan's song ''Eloise'' on the 1968 chart. I was sure it was from 1978. What's wrong with me!
I've always liked 'Ob-la-di-ob-la-da'', whoever sings it, no matter how much they say it's one of the worst songs by The Beatles. By the way, I was amused that Viv said ''Blackberry Way'' is boring, because it sounds like The Beatles… that's precisely its charm! And while we're at it, the ''Beggars Banquet'' cover is a crude copy of the White Album.
